If Obama is "buying the election," then what would you call it if any of the other candidates won? They all accepted donations because it simply costs money to run a campaign. I was a Hillary supporter too but I gladly joined her in the effort to restore our nation after the past 8 years of corporate welfare and governmental abuse of power.

Throw a little sugar on those sour grapes, suck it up, and help Obama to achieve the goals we need to maintain our children's future, our national security, and our democratic principles.

Why does it take donors to fund the Obama transition ?
I believe there is a "Presidential Transition Act" that was designed to do just that.
So tell me please, why is the great and powerful O raising funds for something that is already provided by the American Taxpayer ? I am starting to wonder what position the top donors recieved for their loyalty ? I mean, thats how it's done in Chicago, right ?

Ken: Your sycophancy to the clinton's is nauseating! Just because Bill and Hillary sold their presidency by renting out the Lincoln bedroom to the highest bidder does not equate BO to doing the same. Donating an average of $70 is quite different from Barbara Striesand and David Geffen slopping thousands to the Clintons! What I am amazed at is I gave thousands to Bill Clinton because as a gay man I was thrilled to have a President who actually thought of me and brought me into the process. While I disagree with the statement, it amazes me that you are suprised by people in power buying influence. It's the American way. Where have you been all your life? Haven't you heard of lobbyists? yellow dog, I'm afraid you're mistaken. Obama actually accepted a few donations from foreign nationals (which is illegal). Some donations were returned, but others (to my knowledge) were not even addressed because god forbid CNN reported on it like the wall street journal did. Turns out random people in Palestine can help buy the election for the presidency so long as they're helping a liberal =/

Ken ... How many times do you need to hear that Hillary Clinton lost due to an inadequate campaign and that Barack Obama is the President -Elect? Mr Obama IS NOT "buying" the presidency. He has loyal supporters who believe in his message of change. Not only did he run the best campaign in our recent history but he is also doing his best to live up to his campaign promise of a transparent government. He thinks issues through, speaks with his advisers, and then puts viable plans into action. If we have not learned anything from President Bush let's learn that no one man can run this country without sound judgment and the ability to listen to his advisers. Our country is divided not only racially but intellectually as well. Those who hang on to what they believe should have happened instead of embracing and supporting the new administration are not stupid but for whatever reason completely disconnected from the reality that we need to heal our country. The past 8 years have been devastating and our government is in dire need of restructuring. Mr. Obama has the intellect and has surrounded himself with extremely competent individuals who I believe can start the process of getting America back on track ... including Hillary Clinton. Stop looking for opportunities to bash our President-Elect and give change a chance ... that's all I'm saying.

Statements like "Obama is buying the Presidency" made here show the complete ignorance that still exists. Obama has done what no other president has done to this level. He has made his Presidency as transparent as the current red-tape allows him to do. Its fine if you don't agree with all his policies, but you can't deny that he's done almost everything right so far. His cabinet picks and openness have been very re-freshing and even applauded by his opponents. This is a good sign people, don't let the loss of your preferred candidate blind you to the fact that this guy is 10000 times better than anything we've see in the last 20 years.

Sadly, I did not give any funds to the transition thing. I donated an aggregate total of $1,150 during the the primaries and general election to Obama. I've done more than my share. I'm glad that so many others could continue to give.

@ THE OLD TIMER: Your concern is legitimate, but there is no evidence that foreign governments contributed to the campaign. This is internet urban legend. There are US citizens all over the world that did donate to the Obama campaign. These Americans living abroad are entitled by law to contribute to a presidential campaign. Even the RNC and the McCain campaign recieved millions of dollars from Americans abroad.

I think it was the list of donors to his presidential campaign that people were question. Like those articles about how you could enter fake names and addresses with the credit card info and his website would take the donation anyway, and you could donate again with the same credit card but different name and different address and it will take it. But on John McCain's site, it did a verification so it wouldn't go through unless you had the name and address on file with the card.

Not like McCain would have won anyway, but just sayin' how it's not the transitional donations that were in question.
