As I read these great comments, I wish to say thank you to all of you great American citizens who recognize what a disgrace Bush and his Republican cronies were. After eight years of "America held hostage", to borrow a Rush Limbaugh phrase; we all now recognize that the Republican Party is nothing but a stealth organization. It could care less about fiscal conservatism. Shifting American wealth and privilege to family and friends, is all that the Republican Party has ever been about. And are we really safe from terrorism? There are literally thousands of children in Iraq who currently suffer from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). These kids will be Al Queda's new recruits. Some day, they will strap bombs to their chests after they are sworn in as US citizens.
Jeb Bush in 2012? God help us! Bush family, please move to France!

For those of you who are talking about Burris and saying that you are black, you are a big fat lier!!! No Negro would talk bad about another Negro to white people!!! We stand behind our race 100% regardless if they are wrong or right!! So you white people claiming that you are black, shut up!!!!

Ted L from UK   January 7th, 2009 1:18 am ET

I am really at a complete loss why anyone could possibly feel GW has done a decent job over the past 8 years. I watch Fox (out of curiousity) and listen to Rush and I wonder who they are talking about. They talk about Bill Clinton being a terrible president and Obama as being equally as bad while singing the praises of GW. Lets see: Clinton left a budget surplus, no war, countries that looked up to the US, a narrowing margin between the rich and poor, an expanding workforce, improved college education rates, and economic stability. Yet the Rush Limbaughs and fox News can only talk about Monica. Who cares!!!

GW left us a TRILLION dollar budget gap, two wars that have accomplished nothing, thousands of lives for oil, illegal wire taps, a president that has ignored the Geneva convention and the War Powers Act. He has done more to ignore the enviroment than any other president. He has allowed a lack of regulation that has caused a meltdown of not only the country's finances, but the world's finances. Let me guess – you say we are somehow "safer" – PLEASE!! As a person that is from another country – the US is no safer today than 9/11. Its a sham…..

All of you morons that love George Bush…I don't get it. I have come the conclusions that there are 2 types of Bush supporters: 1) Wealthy people – which makes sense as you are the only ones who have benefited from the past 8 years or 2) HICKS – morons from the proverbial heartland of America…..idiots that believe that only Christianity is the only way to get into "heaven"….and GW is your leader….a man who has killed thousands thru war and has enriched a wealthy few and has used his office to help his friends. He has tortured people in the name of God and country – would Jesus do the same?

Oh well…at least Barack is a good decent man….you may disagree about some of his points of view but he is a man who wants to help out the common man (and that is 99% of us).

Quiet night here without JAE and TCM spewing their hate. Rush Limbaugh must have given them the night off.

Bob the Republican of TN   January 7th, 2009 1:14 am ET

I don't understand why you all are flaming the President for these appointments. None of these appointments will have any effect on President-Elect Obama's administration. Eli Manning on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports? Who would make a better choice? There are plenty of other things that the President (and he is still the President) has done that you all can rip on.

Fred   January 7th, 2009 1:14 am ET

Joseph Scruggs   January 7th, 2009 1:08 am ET

It will always be this way as long as the people allow it. Although I think President Bush will go down in History as the worst President ever. I believe The stting House and Senate are to blame for the mess we are in. They rubber stamped his policies without being the Constitutional Watchdogs they are suppose to be. Any Administration will do what they are allowed to do. Without the proper checks and balances our Constitution just becomes a piece of paper not the the great foresiteful proclimation it really is. The "Patriot act" and the "Brady Bill" are Documents that is not about Patriatism. They have erroded the rights of our citizens more than anything ever. Al Queada won the war by fear because we allowed them to take our Rights away. That has been the theme of the Bush Administration.
Oh yea…..just a mention of something I have held to myself for a long time. Told to me by a man who was killed or died shortly after…The media never tried to dig up the dirt that has always been on President Bush. He would never have been President if it had been told that while he was in the Air National Guard. He flew arms To Nicaragua and Cocaine to the Ranch in Texas for Oliver North. They just lost his records……How convienient! So everybody has some blame here.
"We the people get the Government we deserve" So dont cry now because of some appointments.

DS   January 7th, 2009 1:02 am ET

Can't believe all the vitriol on this page.

Obama supporters, come on now, that's not what Obama would have you do. If you disagree with someone and think they are wrong, say it politely without the hatred and fight. Be like your leader.

Bush supporters, seriously, if there wasn't a leader like Obama who tries to bring both sides together, to listen and cooperate, you folks would get drawn and quartered by the remainder of the people. How about own up to your mistakes and be mature about it?

pj   January 7th, 2009 12:57 am ET

so all that belly aching for the last 8 + years about what bill clinton did with his appointments are ok now that busg has done the same thing? Please, grow a sack

Hupfna   January 7th, 2009 12:55 am ET

I have to agree with SGOLD – What a joke to appoint these incompetent folks like Bolton, Mukasey and Chertoff who supported Bush /Cheney torture policy to a Holocaust Memorial Council. It doesn’t get any more ridiculous then that. Plus Eli Manning and Les Miles and Jason Seehorn to the President’s Council for Physical Fitness – what the heck is that council for esp since these ppl get paid to be on it. Thanks for nothing Bush

Anonymous   January 7th, 2009 12:55 am ET

I haven't researched it, but I'm assuming every president makes these moves, Democrat or Republican. I hope it is something our incoming president will abolish. Fellow Democrats, I'm a bit ashamed at the outrage by some, acting as if Dubya is the only one to do it. We're supposed to be the intelligent, thinking party.

Anyhow, it should be stopped immediately. Most (all?) of these are basically free money to people who are already extremely rich and well-connected.

And while I'll be happy not having someone who has sworn loyalty to a foreign nation be in charge of "Homeland Security", I'm sure Mr. Chertoff could find another way to make his own money, rather than draining mine (and yours).

ben   January 7th, 2009 12:55 am ET

It’s interesting that, in a time when we’re confronted with terrorist threats around the world, that Obama would opt for Panetta’s managerial experience rather than hold out for someone with experience in intelligence and fighting terrorism

Under Bush
18 million new home owners( 2 million in forclosure)
lowest interest rates in 20 years
lowest tax rates in 20 years
33% increase in spending on education
Prescription drug plan ( better then nothing)
lowest unemployment in 20 years
no attacks on the homeland in the past seven years
about 30 million people have a chance to be free and live in a democracy ( Hope they make it)
destroyed top 20% of alqueado leadership and still taking the fight to them

These are unassailable facts. All th eBush Haters either don;t know how gov;t works or live in a never never land

democrats take control of congress in 2007 and its been down hill ever since and folks we have not hit bottom yet……

I'm a Liberal/Dem myself, and I know most of my kind is going to be really mad about this, but to be honest, probably 90% of the presidents who were succeeded by a member of the opposing party did something like this, including Bill Clinton. It's not a bad idea seeing as it adds to the balance of powers, but I doubt that's exactly what the president was striving for.

TIME FOR A CHANGE!

Looks like Bush just supplied Obama with a list of positions to cut from our bloated government.

Are these positions "required" to serve the American people?

If not they have to go. This country is flirting with disaster as it is – it is time for some big changes, for our very survival.

Where is the peace Bush promissed in the Middle East ? Gaza is burning. After bringing so much desaster in the last years the last thing he could do was to work on his promise instead having a tea party.

Seth   January 7th, 2009 12:11 am ET

The answer is really simple, Obama needs to rename and re-certify these boards, that would allow him to pick new board members.

What is so sad about Bush is that he will be walking out out of office in disgrace, leaving behind a broken country, America was once that shiny city on the hill of morality and wealth, we as Americans could look at our children and say " you will have a better life than me" , but now after George bush we are in a fight to save ourselves from the bottom of the barrel.
GEORGE BUSH AMERICA – We used to threaten the Chinese with withholding if they didn't do what we wanted now with George Bush we had to go cap in hand to the Chinese to borrow money, and those Repubs fanatics want to defend that man.

Wake Up Please   January 7th, 2009 12:10 am ET

Everyone who voted for Bush needs to take a good hard look at how they got brainwashed/hoodwinked and who brainwashed/hoodwinked them.

There is little doubt that Bush will go down as one of the worst presidents in American history.

Only if he will be considered THE worst is a debatable question.

"PLEASE and WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE IDIOTS OBAMA Appointed
especially the idoit with no intelligence experience being appointe to CIA
OBAMA showing his trues colors what a complete IDIOT"

Bush had all those experienced guys in intelligence. How did that work out for our country? Invading Iraq using faulty intelligence, yeah that was a good move.

Dyan   January 7th, 2009 12:09 am ET

So much for Bush's claims that he was going to make the transition smooth. Apparently, what he meant by 'smooth' really was "I'm going to tie your hands so that you have to do things my way long after I'm gone".

Alan Rehling   January 7th, 2009 12:06 am ET

Useless right up to the last minute… that will be Dubya's legacy.
Bush has been on vacation ever since the election, not that he accomplished much in the last 8 years other than undo decades of progress and international good will.
The terrorists that he was allegedly defeating wanted to kill Americans, bankrupt our economy and ruin our standing around the world. Funny, that's what Bush did by plunging us into the Iraq war.
Osama should send Bush some flowers or a nice card of appreciation.

I hope this country erupts into civil war – then this fun loving, left of center, somewhat liberal, gun loving patriot can finally do what he and millions of other similarly minded citizens have wanted to do for years:

Hunt down every conservative right wing republican politician and their ignorant, narrow minded supporters and every extreme left wing politician and their ignorant, narrow minded supporter, and execute each and everyone of them along with their families.

Then, and only then, will there be true Americans left, MODERATES.

Of course, the extreme right wing politician and their supporters get one extra bullet pumped into their thin misshaped skulls to make sure they are truly lifeless.

My answer for sanity. AMERICA FOR MODERATES!

Tom KS   January 6th, 2009 11:58 pm ET

Countrymen, we should have been protected from all terrorists, foreign and domestic. 9/11 happened because Bush put a domestic terrorist in the white house and enabled him as his vice-president.

Secondly, it is primarily the youngest of PE Obama's supporters that are ignorant of current events … don't be fooled into thinking that is his only constituency … let's set that record straight right now. It is actually more ignorant to support the notion that we are all idiots … now anyone who supported McCain after his Palin selection is another story altogether. The security of the US was not even a thought in his mind!! Only idiots and fools could support him after that "maverick" selection.

The people that I really feel sorry for are those 20+ percent that thing George W. Bush has or is doing a good job. Aside from Bush being the worst president of my lifetime (69 years) the people who continued to support his arrogant, incompetent staffers are just as woeful as Bush and his cronies. Or maybe that 20+ precent are the cronies that benefited from the downfall of Wall Street, home ownership, car manufacturers, etc. You got your money now run, find another country to live in so we can have more the more decent citizens benefit from President-Elect Obama's administration.

Mr. Bush? So busy making these appointments that you don't have time to even comment on problems in other parts of the world? Just two for starters are:

Gaza?

The lack of natural gas to parts of Europe because of Putin's ego?

Either or both seem to be much more important than filling a few vacancies on boards or commissions that don't have that much affect on national security or the economy, let alone that these boards or commissions have no influence on solving problems in other parts of the world.

As far as foreign policy is concerned, Obama = Bush.
Presidents, most congressmen and senators owe their position to corporate and special interest groups (AIPAC, etc.) financing. Policy is made by those handlers, and it remains the same no matter who is in the white house. "change" sounded good in the ears of the voting public. In any case, anything will be better than the Bush/Cheney disaster.

Hey, Bush u did great with what you had to work with, people need to look at the big picture and see that your not in control of everything that happens and that there are many checks and balances in this country that have prevented many of your plans that could have of helped us get out of this mess that we are currently in. Also to all of you who think that this is a problem that Republicans got us into, take another look at all the plans that have led directly into the debt, the conflict in Iraq didn't do this, we have a multi-trillion dollar debt and not even 1/10th of that has come from this. And to all of those who are against the war, start listening to the news for once, it's not a war against Iraq or Iran it's against terrorism all over the world and as soon as we back out of those countries as Obama has proposed they will retaliate and it wont be just America that pays for it, it's going to be the entire world and were going to either take a stand wich with an appeasing democrat in office that is fairly unlikely or we can pull out, lose all funding and support, and then when it does happen we wont have the ability to retaliate and the world is going to regret the desicion of voting for those in which are against thwarting terrorism.

Disgusted   January 6th, 2009 10:51 pm ET

It saddens me to see such anger and disrespect toward the president and president elect as well as each other. My party lost and I am disappointed but I have to live with it. I voted for Bush and I will be the first to admit I am not happy with all his decisions but just this past weekend I visited the World Trade Center Visitors Center and I thank GOD we haven't had another attack since 9-11. Unfortunately we lost many soldiers lives in the last couple years and during many wars in the past but all those courageous men and women didn't die so you could all act like a bunch of school yard kids but so you can enjoy the freedom and great lives you have today. Enough with the trash talk and be thankful of what President Bush has done and support President Elect Obama.

It is a total humiliation that George Bush is able to legally appoint more of his incompetent staff to boards and commissions. In addition, George Bush continues to issue new regulations that devastate the forest in the Pacific Northwest as well as allowing the pollution of streams and fisheries that the economies of the people in Oregon and Washington depend on. For shame on you, George Bush; I am counting the days and hours until you and all of your stupid and incompetent lackeys leave Washington and drift off into the ignominy that you so richly deserve.

That is the big difference that you narrow minded republicans just cant seem to wrap your brains around.

Once again brilliant statements by those who oppose President Bush. Appointing people to last minute posts is something that every other president has done and is something that even the beloved President-elect will do whenever his time in office comes to a close. It eventually gets a little tiring of people using everything they can get their hands on to criticize a man who will no longer be in office in two weeks. Get over yourselves and try and focus on the real problems facing our country, not covering them up with petty comments and cheap shots.

Robert   January 6th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Bill   January 6th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

A fix for this one is easy.

Add to the law that allows these appointments, and specify any appointments made by a president last for a maximum of 90 days after he leaves office.

(I give 90 days so the new president has _some_ continuity in the very early days, when it would be most disruptive, while limiting the impact of appointments like this.)

To those of you that have made such vial comments, do you have any respect for the office of the president?? Most presidents make such appointments before leaving office and most are unpaid positions. As I recall Bill Clinton made some pretty controversial appointments and decisions during his last days in office. And look at the mess that Obama has made of his latest nominations. President Bush has every right to appoint whoever he deems fit to various positions. It is the discretion of the President and we should respect that. We may disagree/agree with his policies but we have to respect the position and the authority that comes with it. Last but not the least, people in every country of the world get leaders they deserve.

Diana Lowry   January 6th, 2009 9:45 pm ET

It is bad enough that President Bush has left his terrible legacy for the past eight years. Now at the last moment he is capitilizing on his presidency to make last-minute appointments of positions of power for those who may or may not deserve said appointments. If his presidency had ended with a strong economy and succesful foreign policy achievements, his appointments would no doubt be more acceptable, but his most recent endowments will probably be met with suspicion by many. The people appointed should refuse these positions, in light of Bush's overwhelming negative approval ratrings, but probably they will gladly accept these positions in light of their own personal aims for power and success. I hope I am wrong.

Danny Corrigan   January 6th, 2009 9:27 pm ET

Why shouldn't Bush make these appointments. With the finely tuned sense of judgement that brought us "Way to go Brownie" and Roberto Gonzeleus I'm sure these nominations will give us years of people who can "Think outside the box" (or outside of reality for that matter.). It's actually one of his more intelligent moves. He needs to keep people who have been around him the last 8 years busy as possible so they have little time for tell-all books.

Jen   January 6th, 2009 9:27 pm ET

Given the stupidity of our PE's pick for CIA Director, we should pray Bush was able to appoint someone to that position too. At least he picks people who actually have some skill in the job they are asked to do…I mean, really, who in their right mind asks a economics trained person to head an intelligence agency in charge of protecting our country?

And as for keeping us safe…it wouldn't have been necessary if he were more concerned about our own country than the interests of his buddies in foreign oil. The blood of every soul lost in Iraq is on his hands. Good riddance. Your accusations and outright slander against him are also quite distasteful. Next time, try exercising your First Amendment rights with a bit more tact and propriety.

You know we don't always understand what former presidents have done that has been overlooked…most likely due to not having instant access to the internet. Why don't we all just try to get along. I don't care for Bush and his policies, and other than the drain on the economy, these are harmless positions for people to be appointed to. What I find so completely disheartening, is reading the hatred on these blogs. I have friends that I completely respect from both the Republican and Democratic party. I would never degrade a whole party because of disagreement with it's leaders and it's bloggers. I don't hate all Republicans for what I feel was the worst presidency ever these past eight years. We are all entightled to our opinions and not everyone in a given party is alike. For one, I am not a welfare seeking moron waiting for government handouts. I have a Bachelors degree and two Masters degrees, not to mention a rather well paying job and yet I agree wholeheartedly with the Democratic Party. I also am church-going and believe God would want us to look out for each other. Let's all take time out before spewing such hatred and try to see things from another's opinion….and even if we don't agree, let's give them a chance. I hope you can all get the hatred and anger out of your lives.

CNN, it isn't fair when you allow conservative bigots like Albo58 to say whatever they want, but put a lid on other people's viewpoints. Please post this message!

Ablo 58:
Comb your mullet, get back in your pickup, crack open a PBR and go home for a babymama-beating session. Don't forget to pop your kids one (if they are even yours). Does it make you feel better to denigrate (I know that's a big word) successful and qualified individuals instead of admitting that you are a worthless, most likely unemployed, undereducated trailer dweller? Makes you feel like a big man, doesn't it, Jethro?

Marilyn, Powell Ohio   January 6th, 2009 9:01 pm ET

Jedd: what economy are you talking about? Clinton kept us safe also so don't give Bush any medals just yet. 9/11 happened on his watch because he ignored the warnings.

Taylor   January 6th, 2009 9:01 pm ET

I don't understand why this is making people so mad. Yes, he was a bad president but there isn't anything controversial about ANYTHING that he has done here. This is a perfectly normal thing for a departing president to do.

Move on people, it isn't like these appointees are going to be pushing Bush's agenda down our throats during Obama's presidency.

Bon   January 6th, 2009 8:59 pm ET

As long as the pay checks to those appointees are not from his own pocket, do you think that he will care about? If I was Obama, I would make them powerless. The dead body wants to be incarnated but never succeeds.

JD   January 6th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

Anyone blaming President Clinton for anything currently happening needs to evaluate their biases. That was 8 years ago. Imagine if you are working somewhere for 8 years and blame an issue on your predecessor. No one would even remember who the person before you was much less allow you to use that excuse, and they would have expected you to have corrected the issue by that time anyway. You're just trying to deflect blame to save your internal image. Just admit it, he wasn't a very good President. It's no big deal. It happens more often than not.

Everybody knows corruption when you see it. Simply admit that he was useless. Do you need a list, Iraq, Afghanistan, New Orleans, Katrina, economy , oil, no oversight on banking or w street, privatizing social sec., education , nothing for environment and on and on and on. Here's to hoping that there is never another one like him.

Rob   January 6th, 2009 8:55 pm ET

tHE REASON SO MANY PEOPLE ARE AGAINST ANY APPOINTMENTS BY BUSH IS BECAUSE OF HIS HISTORY OF TRYING TO DESTROY THIS COUNTRY WITH EVER ACTION HE DOES. hE EITHER LIES OR TRIES TO HIDE IT UNDER THE GUISE OF EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY. hE IS A TRAITOR TO ALL THAT WAS GOOD ABOUT amERICA. hE SHOULD BE TRATED WITH THE SAME DISTAIN AS THE GOVENER OF iLL. hE IS JUST AS CORRUPT AND NOTHER MORE THAN A DOMESTIC TERRORIST AND HE SHOULD BE SPENDING HIS TIME TRYING TO STAY OUT OF JAIL INSTEAD OF TRYING TO PLAN MEMBERS OF HIS NAZI GROUP IN POSITIONS TO SABATOGE THE COUNTRY FURTHER. aNYTHING bUSH SUPPORTS IS BAD FOR THE COUNTRY

Evan   January 6th, 2009 8:48 pm ET

Hey, Jedd, Bush didn't "defend" us all, keep us safe or do the economy any favors.

Here's the scoop. Actually, it's historical in nature, the type of plot that any good movie could use. When the bad guys (Al Queda) wanted to effect a change in the government, they committed a terrorist act. The voters of that country had a tendency to vote for the other party because the current party in party couldn't stop the terrorism. Now, if the bad guys had committed a terrorist act before the election 4 years ago, the voters of America (at least the ones who didn't have sense enough to not vote for Bush) would have voted for a Democrat (won't get into the whole stolen election thing).

Basically, we had an incompetent president who didn't know what the heck he was doing. He was the perfect pawn for the terrorists. Imagine the problems the bad guys would have had if a competent president had been sitting in the Oval Office the last 8 years? By the terrorists NOT taking action against the United States, that kept Bush in power which is exactly what the bad guys wanted.

Now, take a look at your 20th century history and you'll see a parallel with this in the early to mid 40's.

I wish this board had people with any intellectual value. You make comments just to make comments. Do you realize most of these boards and councils are non-paying? The members are usually nominated by others with the President signing off on the appointment. A lot of the appointments are continuations of current appointments. I seriously doubt any decision by these boards will ever make a difference in your life. Based on the way most of you type and talk, I do not think any of you can be considered a Fulbright Scholar. Please educate yourself before you speak next time. There is a good book out their called the Federalist Papers. You might learn something about our government and how it works.

W will pardon at least 6, plus their top staff.

My business is booming. I know most people do not like reading about positive stories but here is one. I quit school after the ninth grade, I spent time in jail and was addicted to drugs. To make matters worse I was in a car accident and left permanently disabled. I am now married and have three children. I own my own business and my annual income is over $200,000.00. Congressman Jessie Helms gave me a hand up years ago. He ignored my past and gave me a chance. Our politicians are not perfect but I believe they try to do what is right. We are a country built by people who overcome difficult situations. If your life is not what you want it to be get off your butt and change it. Stop blaming everyone but yourself.

Swearing Joe Biden in early is the ONLY good thing Dick Cheney aka the Worst Vice President in U.S. history has ever done, the only reason he does it is because its his job.

After so many years of failed wars, failed economy, failed hurricane Katrina efforts, betraying CIA agent Valerie Plame(and blaming it all on Scooter Libby instead of himself, what a COWARD) & soldiers on the front lines without armor, stripping citizens rights to sue corporations for malpractice & abuse,

Ignoring and dismissing intelligence prior to 9/11 and permitting the massacre of 3,000 people just to have justification to invade a poor country and confiscate its only money makers in petroleum & natural gas, ignoring the decaying infrastructure of the country, torturing & executing prisoners in Guantanamo Bay & Abu Ghraib only emboldens and multiplies the ranks of terrorists groups, selling out to oil, weapon, construction & health care corporations instead of serving the people of the U.S.A.

Oh and how could I forget, this man "accidentally" shot his supposed friend in the face after confusing him for a DEER you are either blind or a complete idiot or you just wanted to feel how its like to shoot a man because you are too much of a COWARD to go to Iraq or Afghanistan and confronting your enemies with a gun so you send soldiers to die for you without justification etc.

In the movie W. even the moron George W. Bush scolded you for mistaking trenches of supposed WMDs and George said "Dammit Cheney you were raised in Wyoming how could you not distinguish Cattle trenches?!"

Just another way to leave garbage in his wake.

SA in OO   January 6th, 2009 7:46 pm ET

Has Dubya appointed anyone to the building committee for his Presidential Library yet? Will his library have any books? Isn't that a non sequitur?

President Bush . . . Library

Maybe he should get a born again Presidential Church, or a George W. Bush Presidential baseball park (minor league of course.) But a presidential library assumes he has actually thought enough about the job he was charged with doing that archiving all of his extensive notes, papers, and detailed deliberations on the theoretical and/or strategic directions he has led the coutry in, would be of interest to future presidents.

The deep and critical thinking that this president has engaged in over the last 8 years could be covered in one thin paper back, but only if you threw in a lot of pictures.

GD   January 6th, 2009 7:46 pm ET

Politics = favors. Period.

Every successful politician has gotten where they are via political favors, and Obama is no exception.

Gil   January 6th, 2009 7:44 pm ET

Anybody and anything will be better than the bimbo's of the bush administration who have ruined this country even though the extreme right thinks things are and were just fine for the last 8 years. To them I say, "get a life!"

Minnesotan   January 6th, 2009 7:40 pm ET

Bush the Traitor… just up to his same old tricks… Can't wait for the lawsuits and trials for crimes against humanity and treason begin!

L.Dorman, Sarasota   January 6th, 2009 7:40 pm ET

Who cares? Bush is done, thank God

Fenney Derden   January 6th, 2009 7:39 pm ET

I couldn't believe it when CNN announced that potty mouth Kathy Griffin would be co-host with Anderson Cooper at the dropping of the ball in Times Square on New Year's Eve. You must have scrapped the bottom of the barrell. Yuk!

Candice - TN   January 6th, 2009 7:38 pm ET

Trying to infect the Obama administration I see. That should be against the law to ensure someone's job in the next administration at the last minute. What's up Bush jealous Obama's been making so many appointments and you want the spotlight too? lol Jan. 20th can't come fast enough!

I wish   January 6th, 2009 7:37 pm ET

I wish you ill will coward Bush.

alvino   January 6th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

He is just like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going through taxpayer money.

Texas Teacher   January 6th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

Doesn't he have an appointment for his housekeeper? :(

Come on… this man will be making cronie appointmenst until the day he leaves Washington. This man and his family has NO shame…. none whatsoever! Disgusting……

No fan   January 6th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

He's been helping out his friends ever since he got into office; it's just more blatant now.

Cynthia - Arkansas   January 6th, 2009 7:35 pm ET

I think these people will feel a little uneasy with the all the smart folks that Obama has in place. They probably won't last very long when they are expected to actually DO SOMETHING! This will surely work itself out.

Chris in Va.   January 6th, 2009 7:34 pm ET

Any appointments made by this criminal should be considered "tainted" as well and should be ignored by U.S. lawmakers and citizens.

Thanks George.....   January 6th, 2009 7:34 pm ET

7 years without a single terrorist attack on our soil—well done—
how will Obama improve on a 100% perfect record?—-

He can't—-better buy your armored cars and flak jackets NOW.

HARLAND   January 6th, 2009 7:34 pm ET

I HATE TO SEE HIM GO I THINK HE IS GREAT PRES. HE MADE AMERICA SAFER AFTER SEP. 11, AND STRONGER ALSO .LOWER TAXES . THE ECONOMIC PROBLEM, AND HOUSEING WAS CLINTONS THING HE STARTED IT BECAUSE HE WANTED EVERYONE TO BUY A HOUSE EVEN IF THEY COULD NOT PAY FOR IT !!! ( HOUSING ACT )

Margaret Anderson   January 6th, 2009 7:32 pm ET

We need to hit the undo button on Bush. He is a madman gone crazy.

MikeH   January 6th, 2009 7:29 pm ET

Can we downsize government to help with the budget, and in doing so lay off ALL the Bush appointees off (last in, first out)?

MsAud   January 6th, 2009 7:29 pm ET

He just can't leave things alone can he?

Elsee   January 6th, 2009 7:29 pm ET

Go away, President Lame Duck. Stop doing anything. You are so tainted.

Willy Brown   January 6th, 2009 7:29 pm ET

Fill them now befor Bamabi fills them with Clinton cast off's.

Chris Edmunds   January 6th, 2009 7:27 pm ET

i wonder how much these people donated to the Republican party

Objective thinking   January 6th, 2009 7:26 pm ET

"Al, atheist from California" – What does Bush not being in prison have to do with whether or not these appointments are good choices? Oh yeah, NOTHING.

shoegazer   January 6th, 2009 7:26 pm ET

Does the incoming President have any veto powers on these disgraceful last minute "gifts".This man should not be able to appoint
his paperboy, never mind this list of lackeys.

Devon Cloud   January 6th, 2009 7:26 pm ET

Just what America needs… one last push to leave those who got us into this financial mess in charge of something… Can't Bush just go away? we can just do without a President until the 20th. That would be much better in my opinion.

Bill   January 6th, 2009 7:24 pm ET

There really should be a law that states no President can make appointments or pardons once a new President has been elected. As we saw with Clinton and now with Bush, these actions don't reward qualified individuals, they're basically the actions of a president taking care of his buddies.

Proud American   January 6th, 2009 7:24 pm ET

He appointed himself Village Idiot.

Democrats Rule   January 6th, 2009 7:19 pm ET

Heaven help us – the damage will never end!

S Callahan   January 6th, 2009 7:19 pm ET

Well, look at it as good will….they'll all have health insurance for three to five years.

Tek Ny   January 6th, 2009 7:16 pm ET

Did Bill Clinton do the same thing?

Al, atheist from California   January 6th, 2009 7:15 pm ET

This reminds: Bush is still not in prison.

Impeach George W. Bush   January 6th, 2009 7:12 pm ET

I am not familiar with most of these appointees but if they are anything like the rest of Bush’s people they must be incompetent.

John G   January 6th, 2009 7:12 pm ET

Ok it's pretty standard to do appointments and pardons on the way out…

Y Pittman   January 6th, 2009 7:11 pm ET

Wow, more Bush appointments. Scarey..Guess it's one more stick to the American people.. Micheal Chertoff.Elliott Abrams…c'mon

Marjorie Hiltner   January 6th, 2009 7:11 pm ET

Can we appoint Bush to the gallows?

CA Indie for Obama   January 6th, 2009 7:11 pm ET

gee, what a surprise that the worst president in recent history is trying to extend his ideological failings for another 3 to 6 years.

so, if somethings go sideways over the next few years, thank you bush for supplying Obama with some political cover. we would all be better off without it.

C Spurgeon   January 6th, 2009 7:08 pm ET

What a jerk. He should take all with him. They are all part of the worst administration ever and should not benefit from this failed presidency!

Monica, Farmington, MI   January 6th, 2009 7:08 pm ET

What is wrong with this guy? I have never heard or read of a more power-hungry individual or one who hates his country more. To the last minute, he has to hurt America.

timothy Powell   January 6th, 2009 7:08 pm ET

President's appointing last minute jobs is not the worst thing that could happen at this point. When it came to the economy and the verment Peloski found when the rock was lifted, President Bush also seen it. Now and from that time he has parted with the traditional policies of the Republican Party, and acknowledges the parting. Seems he is for the first time doing his own thinking and policy making. Too late to help. I always thought President Bush was a better man than it appeared because of policies. truly so, timothy: IN

Irritated in Fl   January 6th, 2009 7:08 pm ET

Good for him! leaves less room for Obama to screw something else up.

Larry Madison   January 6th, 2009 7:07 pm ET

Will we never escape the influence of George W?

Denise   January 6th, 2009 7:05 pm ET

Why is Bush doing this?

cile/fairhiope, al   January 6th, 2009 7:02 pm ET

Spare me.

YS from MO   January 6th, 2009 7:00 pm ET

BUSH CONTINUES THE LOOTING OF AMERICA, APPOINTING

USELESS PEOPLE TO POSITIONS WE HAVE TO PAY FORE.

Isaac   January 6th, 2009 6:54 pm ET

January 20 can't come soon enough.

Lyndon from CA   January 6th, 2009 6:52 pm ET

What goes around usually comes around. So the 44th president has a blueprint to follow when his term ends in either four or eight years henceforth. Thanks George, you winner you.

boered1   January 6th, 2009 6:49 pm ET

luckily any and all of these appointments can be overturned since they were done in the last 30 (or is it 60 days? too lazy to research) of a presidency so no worries Obama will have his people look at them and get rid of the idiots and syncophants bush tries to sneak in.
