As I read these great comments, I wish to say thank you to all of you great American citizens who recognize what a disgrace Bush and his Republican cronies were. After eight years of "America held hostage", to borrow a Rush Limbaugh phrase; we all now recognize that the Republican Party is nothing but a stealth organization. It could care less about fiscal conservatism. Shifting American wealth and privilege to family and friends, is all that the Republican Party has ever been about. And are we really safe from terrorism? There are literally thousands of children in Iraq who currently suffer from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). These kids will be Al Queda's new recruits. Some day, they will strap bombs to their chests after they are sworn in as US citizens.
Jeb Bush in 2012? God help us! Bush family, please move to France!

I am really at a complete loss why anyone could possibly feel GW has done a decent job over the past 8 years. I watch Fox (out of curiousity) and listen to Rush and I wonder who they are talking about. They talk about Bill Clinton being a terrible president and Obama as being equally as bad while singing the praises of GW. Lets see: Clinton left a budget surplus, no war, countries that looked up to the US, a narrowing margin between the rich and poor, an expanding workforce, improved college education rates, and economic stability. Yet the Rush Limbaughs and fox News can only talk about Monica. Who cares!!!

GW left us a TRILLION dollar budget gap, two wars that have accomplished nothing, thousands of lives for oil, illegal wire taps, a president that has ignored the Geneva convention and the War Powers Act. He has done more to ignore the enviroment than any other president. He has allowed a lack of regulation that has caused a meltdown of not only the country's finances, but the world's finances. Let me guess - you say we are somehow "safer" - PLEASE!! As a person that is from another country - the US is no safer today than 9/11. Its a sham.....

All of you morons that love George Bush...I don't get it. I have come the conclusions that there are 2 types of Bush supporters: 1) Wealthy people - which makes sense as you are the only ones who have benefited from the past 8 years or 2) HICKS - morons from the proverbial heartland of America.....idiots that believe that only Christianity is the only way to get into "heaven"....and GW is your leader....a man who has killed thousands thru war and has enriched a wealthy few and has used his office to help his friends. He has tortured people in the name of God and country - would Jesus do the same?

Oh well...at least Barack is a good decent man....you may disagree about some of his points of view but he is a man who wants to help out the common man (and that is 99% of us).

I don't understand why you all are flaming the President for these appointments. None of these appointments will have any effect on President-Elect Obama's administration. Eli Manning on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports? Who would make a better choice? There are plenty of other things that the President (and he is still the President) has done that you all can rip on.

It will always be this way as long as the people allow it. Although I think President Bush will go down in History as the worst President ever. I believe The stting House and Senate are to blame for the mess we are in. They rubber stamped his policies without being the Constitutional Watchdogs they are suppose to be. Any Administration will do what they are allowed to do. Without the proper checks and balances our Constitution just becomes a piece of paper not the the great foresiteful proclimation it really is. The "Patriot act" and the "Brady Bill" are Documents that is not about Patriatism. They have erroded the rights of our citizens more than anything ever. Al Queada won the war by fear because we allowed them to take our Rights away. That has been the theme of the Bush Administration.
Oh yea.....just a mention of something I have held to myself for a long time. Told to me by a man who was killed or died shortly after...The media never tried to dig up the dirt that has always been on President Bush. He would never have been President if it had been told that while he was in the Air National Guard. He flew arms To Nicaragua and Cocaine to the Ranch in Texas for Oliver North. They just lost his records......How convienient! So everybody has some blame here.
"We the people get the Government we deserve" So dont cry now because of some appointments.

Can't believe all the vitriol on this page.

Obama supporters, come on now, that's not what Obama would have you do. If you disagree with someone and think they are wrong, say it politely without the hatred and fight. Be like your leader.

Bush supporters, seriously, if there wasn't a leader like Obama who tries to bring both sides together, to listen and cooperate, you folks would get drawn and quartered by the remainder of the people. How about own up to your mistakes and be mature about it?

I have to agree with SGOLD - What a joke to appoint these incompetent folks like Bolton, Mukasey and Chertoff who supported Bush /Cheney torture policy to a Holocaust Memorial Council. It doesn’t get any more ridiculous then that. Plus Eli Manning and Les Miles and Jason Seehorn to the President’s Council for Physical Fitness – what the heck is that council for esp since these ppl get paid to be on it. Thanks for nothing Bush

I haven't researched it, but I'm assuming every president makes these moves, Democrat or Republican. I hope it is something our incoming president will abolish. Fellow Democrats, I'm a bit ashamed at the outrage by some, acting as if Dubya is the only one to do it. We're supposed to be the intelligent, thinking party.

Anyhow, it should be stopped immediately. Most (all?) of these are basically free money to people who are already extremely rich and well-connected.

And while I'll be happy not having someone who has sworn loyalty to a foreign nation be in charge of "Homeland Security", I'm sure Mr. Chertoff could find another way to make his own money, rather than draining mine (and yours).

It’s interesting that, in a time when we’re confronted with terrorist threats around the world, that Obama would opt for Panetta’s managerial experience rather than hold out for someone with experience in intelligence and fighting terrorism

Under Bush
18 million new home owners( 2 million in forclosure)
lowest interest rates in 20 years
lowest tax rates in 20 years
33% increase in spending on education
Prescription drug plan ( better then nothing)
lowest unemployment in 20 years
no attacks on the homeland in the past seven years
about 30 million people have a chance to be free and live in a democracy ( Hope they make it)
destroyed top 20% of alqueado leadership and still taking the fight to them

These are unassailable facts. All th eBush Haters either don;t know how gov;t works or live in a never never land

democrats take control of congress in 2007 and its been down hill ever since and folks we have not hit bottom yet……

I'm a Liberal/Dem myself, and I know most of my kind is going to be really mad about this, but to be honest, probably 90% of the presidents who were succeeded by a member of the opposing party did something like this, including Bill Clinton. It's not a bad idea seeing as it adds to the balance of powers, but I doubt that's exactly what the president was striving for.

TIME FOR A CHANGE!

Looks like Bush just supplied Obama with a list of positions to cut from our bloated government.

Are these positions "required" to serve the American people?

If not they have to go. This country is flirting with disaster as it is - it is time for some big changes, for our very survival.

>>>The President intends to appoint the following individuals to be Members of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council:

Huh?
The Holocaust occurred in Europe, but we have a memorial council here?? I don't get that. Just more government bloat.

Yes, there should be a good riddance party for Mr. Bush. But even more so, he should apologize and show some remorse for screwing up our country so badly and ruining our reputation throughout the world. I don't know how we will ever regain all that he has lost.

The difference between Buch and Clinton is that Clinton didn't do his best to screw the amarican middle and lower class. When he was in office (even though I did not vote for him either) everyone had money, not just the rich.

The answer is really simple, Obama needs to rename and re-certify these boards, that would allow him to pick new board members.

What is so sad about Bush is that he will be walking out out of office in disgrace, leaving behind a broken country, America was once that shiny city on the hill of morality and wealth, we as Americans could look at our children and say " you will have a better life than me" , but now after George bush we are in a fight to save ourselves from the bottom of the barrel.
GEORGE BUSH AMERICA - We used to threaten the Chinese with withholding if they didn't do what we wanted now with George Bush we had to go cap in hand to the Chinese to borrow money, and those Repubs fanatics want to defend that man.

Everyone who voted for Bush needs to take a good hard look at how they got brainwashed/hoodwinked and who brainwashed/hoodwinked them.

There is little doubt that Bush will go down as one of the worst presidents in American history.

Only if he will be considered THE worst is a debatable question.

OBAMA showing his trues colors what a complete IDIOT"

Bush had all those experienced guys in intelligence. How did that work out for our country? Invading Iraq using faulty intelligence, yeah that was a good move.

So much for Bush's claims that he was going to make the transition smooth. Apparently, what he meant by 'smooth' really was "I'm going to tie your hands so that you have to do things my way long after I'm gone".

Useless right up to the last minute... that will be Dubya's legacy.
Bush has been on vacation ever since the election, not that he accomplished much in the last 8 years other than undo decades of progress and international good will.
The terrorists that he was allegedly defeating wanted to kill Americans, bankrupt our economy and ruin our standing around the world. Funny, that's what Bush did by plunging us into the Iraq war.
Osama should send Bush some flowers or a nice card of appreciation.

The only mistake Bush made is not appointing Cheney to run for President and either McCain or Palin as VP. That woulda beat Osama!

I hope this country erupts into civil war - then this fun loving, left of center, somewhat liberal, gun loving patriot can finally do what he and millions of other similarly minded citizens have wanted to do for years:

Hunt down every conservative right wing republican politician and their ignorant, narrow minded supporters and every extreme left wing politician and their ignorant, narrow minded supporter, and execute each and everyone of them along with their families.

Then, and only then, will there be true Americans left, MODERATES.

Of course, the extreme right wing politician and their supporters get one extra bullet pumped into their thin misshaped skulls to make sure they are truly lifeless.

My answer for sanity. AMERICA FOR MODERATES!

GWB is the worst, most vile person to ever hold the office of president in this country. January 20th cannot come soon enough. Hopefully the damage he has done and continues to do will not irreparably harm our country for decades to come.
