President-elect Obama will name his Chief Performance Officer Wednesday, CNN has learned.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama on Wednesday will announce his selection for the role of "chief performance officer," a newly created position that will work to scrub the federal budget and reform
government, a Democratic official told CNN.

The person will "help put us on a path to fiscal discipline," the official said.

So just where, Ralph, did you read that Obama bans earmarks? In fact, Obama was one of the biggest earmarkers for IL while he spent his two-something days in the senate!

Umm... the news. He is refusing to sign the stimulus package if it has earmarks.

Wouldn't it be great if Americans would support their president when he is trying to do right by us rather than constantly attacking? What a great nation we could be.

lvironpigs   January 6th, 2009 11:40 pm ET

Proud American,

Godsend? We love you? Wow.

RMGofCO   January 6th, 2009 11:16 pm ET

Well...I am pleased. Someone to actually establish accountability within our government...the folks we pay. What a novel idea. Now this is leading and leading by example. Thank you PE Obama.

Sherrol in Canada   January 6th, 2009 11:09 pm ET

Grant,

My fellow Canadian, no disrespect taken. That 'we' isn't being used in an ownership or belonging context.

legal in nc   January 6th, 2009 11:04 pm ET

Where was the "Magic Messiah" when he had a chance to speak up on earmarks while in Congress,,,,,,,,, uh uh uh oh that's right he voted present.

Enough of this so called change,,,Bill Clinton didn't do it and neither will Hussein Obama. How do I know this, he's using all of Clinton's cronies in his cabinet.

Just like all of the Obama-aid drinkers their chosen one doesn't have a clue!

john   January 6th, 2009 11:00 pm ET

I like this idea. Obama is a genius.

He is a progressive so he must be more fiscally responsible than the conservatives.

Why didnt dubya do this?

Intelligent American   January 6th, 2009 11:00 pm ET

And an Obama-worship comment from "Proud American." Anyone surprised? No.

yellow dog democrat   January 6th, 2009 10:59 pm ET

Despite all the attacking that goes on in these endless "blogville" realms....I believe that Obama will prove to be a very interesting leader of the Free World....Love him or not - you are going to get a real change in the Political realm.....many will go down kicking and screaming....I hope that all the voters are watching their representatives with a keen and watchful eye.

No Incumbents 2010   January 6th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

Accountability? I thought that was what checks and balances were meant to do. There is no accountability in D.C.
The President can't clean up Washington, but WE CAN. We won't, we'll keep electing these idiots and criminals, but WE CAN! The key to reforming government is not by making it bigger.
BTW- While the nation is suffering a recession and firefighters and police are taking cuts in small towns like Galveston TX.to keep their jobs, our Congress just voted to give themselves a raise.

libs be dopes   January 6th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

I wonder what the new name for "earmarks" will be?

rich   January 6th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

It's a darn shame a reform post had to be created in the first place, but Obama has no choice. Washington is dirty. This action just shows you how far off our country has been driven off the tracks in recent memory. Washington needs a serious clean up....better it needs an intense scrubbing with all the bleach one can find to get rid of all the corruption, lobyist, and crooks who have been raping the nation and the American people for eons and getting away with. So Mr./Ms. Reformer get to work. Your work is long overdue.

Will Obama stop Mayor Bloomberg along with the MTA from increasing fares on buses and subways ?

Grant in Canada   January 6th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Sherrol,

You and I live in Canada. You shouldn't be using the plural "we" with our American friends. Our governments are quite different, and the Canadian one is much larger, on a per capita basis, than the U.S government will ever be.

No disrespect.

Anonymous   January 6th, 2009 10:00 pm ET

I guess he can start with Obama's new trillion dollar deficits. He will have job security thats for sure .It was only yesterday that Obama said that those size deficits will last "for years to come"

sick of the blogs   January 6th, 2009 9:55 pm ET

From this point forward I am not going to read any blogs. I had taken a break from them and felt so much better in my soul. They arouse feelings of divisiveness and hatred in people, on every topic. Even the positive bloggers indulge, hating the "haters". A better use of time would be to read a book, see a friend, work on something, enjoy a hobby. I refuse to waste emotional energy here anymore. I am not learning anything except how deep the ignorance goes. Bye!

14 Days To Go   January 6th, 2009 9:47 pm ET

Such a bunch of cynical naysayers!! PE Obama is doing exactly what he promised and the majority of voters which him well for the good of the country. The people constantly blogging negative comments on every blog should get up and do something more positive with their lives and their country.

Texas Teacher   January 6th, 2009 9:41 pm ET

RALPH.... Fox News is just like Rush Limbaugh... a whole lot of HOT AIR and little more... it only appeals to the low brow red neck religious fanatics who still cannot see that their emperor is wearing NO CLOTHES! :(

Texas Teacher   January 6th, 2009 9:37 pm ET

PE, it is YOUR Administration! You name whomever you want to name... just like Bush did....

and the republican congress with the help of the democrats in congress...pushed them right on through! No argument.... Now they want to criticize your choices.... pffft!

Don't think we the People will forget who questioned the Bush administration and their rape of the nation... and who just sat there and said figuratively.... stick it to them, we're with YOU! Turn coats....you chose the side you wanted to be on.... so just head into the caves with them.... your run in office means nothing.... next election we shall see who is back... and then WHO is BACK!

James   January 6th, 2009 9:34 pm ET

Necessary? Hire a person with excellent managing ability to head the Office of Management and Budget and you can balance the budget the way Clinton did in 90's.

Just another example of Obama playing image/identity politics with hyping a title position.

Jen   January 6th, 2009 9:33 pm ET

Now this is the type of position Obama should have appointed Panetta for...instead, for this position he will probably pick someone who has been trained in counterterrorism...because his appointments are making about as much sense as someone picking names out of a hat at random.

amt   January 6th, 2009 9:32 pm ET

I love this idea, Obama a wise choice

Simmy   January 6th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

What a mind! It is great to have a president who realizes that he can't please all of the people all of the time. He is concerned about the needs of the American people, and wants to do what is right. He is not arrogant. He cares what people think. I agree, he is a godsend.

S Callahan   January 6th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

Does this mean if we don't agree we are punished? (just kidding)..it's a FEMA thing...lol

This position would bold well to the new appointments of Pres. Bush if they fail to follow the Obama/Biden agenda.

Willy Brown   January 6th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

Here comes the watering down of th emilitary might so he can give money to social programs aimed at illegals hiding in the USA.

amt   January 6th, 2009 9:30 pm ET

i love the idea, & know it will be a great success, Obama a wise choice. Now find a way to get Hannity to shut up.

Bea   January 6th, 2009 9:24 pm ET

I love our new Prezo.

Independent observer   January 6th, 2009 9:19 pm ET

Yeah I and I guess the reformer position will be filled by some dinosaur from the Clinton era. How about Madeleine Albright has she been given a job yet?

Talk about a snake oil sales man, that Obama sure did take you all for a long ride.

tcaudilllg   January 6th, 2009 8:53 pm ET

This is amazing. For the first time in history a position has been created that only people who are interested in reform can fill successfully. Although, I imagine that it can be turned the other way around and used to reverse reforms, too. The purpose of this office will be a point of interesting contention for years to come....

Tim   January 6th, 2009 8:50 pm ET

Good idea. I'm qualified, pick me.

Pat   January 6th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

Ha Ha!! Chief Performance Officer??

I thought that was Obama's job!

What would a Chief Performance Officer have to say about the gross waste of effort and expense incurred by Harry Ried's illegal blocking of Senator Burris from his seat??

Matthew   January 6th, 2009 8:45 pm ET

This sounds like a goodd idea. Hopefully he doesn't reward some other corrupt Chicago chrony though.

Jack and the Bean Stalk...

Albo58   January 6th, 2009 8:37 pm ET

Banning earmarks? Wow, did I over-sleep because I don't recall the president actually getting the line item veto authority! Perhaps the great Constitutionist Joe Biden can explain to Mr. Obama about the powers actually afforded to the Executive Branch when he returns from his "highly important" trip to Southwest Asia? Seriously, with Obama's record of getting earmarks when he was a senator, working with earmark hogs like Pelosi and Reid, even the blind can see this for what it is, grandstanding rubbish!

bluehawk   January 6th, 2009 8:32 pm ET

I'm so proud that we elected Barack Obama to be our President. He is thoughtful, rational, strong, and speaks good English. Wow, I love him and what he stands for.

REG in AZ   January 6th, 2009 8:29 pm ET

God if it can only work; if it can only get real support without resistance or deception. I suppose we can hope, but real bypartisan support for reform including curtailing pork-barrel spending – wow, that would really be something.

Jeff Brown   January 6th, 2009 8:28 pm ET

Sounds like a good start... YOU GO BARACK!

Bill   January 6th, 2009 8:21 pm ET

Is this the first of those 3,000,000 jobs he will create or "retain"? By the way, how can a "retained" job be documented? Guess he doesn't have to. All he has to do is say so and it becomes fact.

janet, ohio   January 6th, 2009 8:20 pm ET

Is it just me, or does he look sort of mentally challenged in this particular photo?

Not trying to be mean, I realize the man is briiliant, just sayin' it's a really bad photo.

Ralph   January 6th, 2009 8:11 pm ET

Wow. Accountabiilty. Banning earmarks.

I wonder if Sean Hannity and all of his followers will be issuing a formal apology to President Elect Obama for the hateful rhetoric.

Obama is giving every indication that he was the best choice and will be one of our best and wisest presidents. Brilliant selection, America.

Sherrol in Canada   January 6th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

After what Bush did to policies and our Contsititution, this will be a full time job for sure. PE Obama has a great mind and will do his best to make our Goverment run more smoothly and more efficient. Thank You PE Obama!!!

Lyndon from CA   January 6th, 2009 7:55 pm ET

Sorry, but I was born in Missouri. Show me the path to this so called fiscal discipline.
