WASHINGTON (CNN) – The disputes over the Illinois and Minnesota Senate seats are stealing the spotlight, but there was other notable moments on Capitol Hill during today's swearing in of the 111th Congress.
The most interesting picture of the day was Dick Cheney swearing in the man that will soon replace him as vice president, Joe Biden. As sitting vice president, Cheney presides over the Senate - and Biden is not only vice president-elect, but the newly re-elected senior senator from Delaware. He'll give that position up come January 20, when he takes the vice presidential oath of office.
Two other senators who get sworn in today will most likely soon be stepping down as well. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York has been nominated by President-elect Barack Obama to serve as his secretary of state. And Sen. Ken Salazar of Colorado has been nominated by Obama to serve as secretary of the interior. Both will resign their seats if confirmed to their new positions, as expected, by the Senate.

hilary and obama i love yall both your so awesome i know
theres going to be a change.
Hey Mike from Canada. It's not your country so who cares what you have to say. You don't like it, move to the US, become a citizen and vote. Otherwise focus on your own problems and your crappy healthcare that forces ridiculous waiting lists and threatens lives.
Marilyn, Powell Ohio – dead wrong. Bill Clinton endangered us...I had a front row seat at that one....you obviously believe what the clintons and obamas spout on their website. Go back and bake some cookies.
Job well done!
carolflowery : great, a man who wanted iraq divideded into 3 countries, what an idiot
****************************************************************************
It is commonplace that people like you do not like the truth. Iraq did not come together as a nation; they were amalgamated together for the selfish reasons of the Britons. The Kurds, Sunnis and the Shiites are independent countries and the Britons used the perennial divide and rule tactics that they have been using all over the place. Go to India or Nigeria to do your research. Learn the truth before displaying your ignorance in public. You my illiterate friend is the idiot
DICK CHENEY AS A VICE PRESIDENT MAKES THE LEADERS OF IRAN.CUBA,AND NORTH KOREA LOOK LIKE ANGELS IN A PROMISE LAND.
mike – FROM CANADA – you haven't a clue about what's going on, like many of the whiny liberals do.
GET REAL DUDE – who's offended? I'm calling it like it is....typical liberal ploy, to say someone's offended, or angry...however, I've known all along what OBama and Biden bring to the table...nothing but a glamour and grunt show....nothing of substance....yet, libs voted him in. So, it will be liberals who'll have to get over it...because they are the ones whose expectations won't be met.
HEY DUDE – another thing; I don't need help as you say, and I proved it by voting against Obama. However, it's helpless kiddies like you that have the need for govt to control your every move...who knows...maybe Obama will have a professional nose wiper for you.....worthless idiot
Cheney should be the one with his hand on the bible"The whole truth,
nothing but the truth,so help you God".Then see if he starts to squirm.
I would imagine not.
From all indications, any human interaction with Cheney is awkward at best. The guy has yet to prove he lives, breathes and feels like the rest of the human race.
I love how CNN always tries to stir up trouble with it's headlines. Stop with the sensationalism and return to serious news reporting.
To TCM: Know your facts before you speak. If the Bush Administration had done it's job and listened to the Clinton Administration, 9-11 would not have happened. So you can't really claim that the Bush Administration has kept us safe. Also Bush's failure to retaliate for the bombing of the USS Cole led Bin Laden to launch the 9-11 attacks.
To Mike from Canada. If you do not like it here you can go back home. The sooner the better.

TCM be afraid, be very afraid.
You are the clown, you bought in to all the fear mongering by the wannabe dictator's in the current administration. America grew strong and respected in the past because of liberal leadership.
HAHA....I didn't think people were as stupid as what you've projected...guess I was wrong. Bush is not dictator, however, your boy obama, who wants to censor the media for askingthe wrong questions...well, that's a start...stupid liberal woman
CNN, why do you, according to your homepage headline, consider this an "awkward moment"?
Can the Republican chorus quit chanting "Well at least Bush & Cheney kept us safe after 9/11!"
I know they are droning that line all over Rush and Hannity, but COME ON!!
It's a lot like saying "Well at least Buchanan kept us out of the Civil War,"
or "Well at least Herbert Hoover kept the stock market from crashing again," or "At least Kennedy kept us out of a second Cuban Missile Crisis."
That argument won't stand up to history, and all you drones know it, so shut up already!!!
Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Darth, and take your waterboard with you.
Any idiot who believes Obama was not born on USA soil is just a disgruntled Republican who can't accept reality that the person Bush called "That One" is your new President. Get over losing "L" and spreading rumors you have no factual grounds to know is true...it people like you who help to keep the country divided as long as you get yours
Bush and Cheney bashing is a waste of time at this point. We already took care of them with the voting process.
Chris-
Give it up. You cannot believe all the drivel that has already been disproven. I don't know how to break this to you, but they did not find WMDs in Iraq either.
I can't help but wonder how this was done. Did Cheney swear him in by trying to convert him to the dark side? Or telling Biden that Cheney was his father? Well at least Dick Vader (or Darth Cheney...whichever you prefer) is gone soon. Good ridance.
By the way, I also couldn't help but notice the usual Obama/Biden/liberal bashing going on here. Get over it people. Obama won. And the few "elite" citizens of this country who think that all of us who support him are a bunch of idiots are definitely to be ignored or laughed at. But perhaps they should remember that it was conservative leadership that got us into this mess in the first place. Time will tell what kind of leadership this will be. Until then, go cry and moan someplace else. I hope Santa brought you all violins for Christmas.
@Chris: "Obama was born in Kenya folks and he is ineligable to be president—not to mention, too inexperienced."
Right you are, Chris! And the world is really flat! And the moon is made out of green cheese!
Grow up, Chris. This rumor has been disproven many times, but I'm sure no amount of proof will ever change the minds of the mindless.
Just wanted to see how ugly things were going to get on this blog before offering the following: (Yes, I have posted this on another blog today)
Time for that reminder folks. Read the posts for this article. Think about what they're saying, from both ends of the political spectrum. And you wonder why the world's citizens have NO respect for the people in the United States of America? It's because we have NO respect for ourselves.
Ah, a kodak moment. Father and Son Reunion. Oh, and let's not forget while contemplating the thought that Bush and Cheney protected our sorry behinds, that 9/11 happened on their watch.
No one saw Cheyney before because he was under GWB's desk with his hand on Georgie's back (puppet master) telling George what to do.
