Bush press secretary Dana Perino gave Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs a tour of the White House Briefing Room.

(CNN) — While the former, current and future presidents met for lunch today at the White House, staffers for the outgoing and incoming administrations followed their lead: Bush chief of staff Josh Bolten had lunch with Rahm Emanuel, who will fill the same role in the Obama administration; White House counselor Ed Gillespie had lunch with Obama senior advisor David Axelrod; and Bush press secretary Dana Perino had lunch with Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs, who will take her place behind the press room podium.

Gerda Edwards….
Now play nice…Since all of you "good" Christians always talk about "helping" your fellow man I would have thought that ALL of you good people(((Republicans))) would understand the need of a family wanting somewhere convenient to send their children off to school….it wasn't about "special treatment"….it was about the children….and since Republicans are so devout about "abortions and family values" I would have thought that our "good' Christian President would have adjusted his schedule in order to help out an in-coming President…but I guess this situation was just like ALL the rest for Bush…a non-issue…..

Patriot   January 7th, 2009 7:49 pm ET

I just hope Bush doesn't pull the same crap Clinton did and act sore beceause his party lost the White House. That kind of behaviour makes all americans look bad.

Rave   January 7th, 2009 7:27 pm ET

Robert Gibbs is cool. His interview with Hannity(The Racist) on Foxnews was hilarious

TheTruthHurts   January 7th, 2009 7:25 pm ET

Just awesome!! Finally some thoughtful people with foresight. Not perfect, but at least thoughtful.

Just imagine what a spectacular food fight this could have been.
Would have made"Animal House"look like a church picnic.

Taylor   January 7th, 2009 7:00 pm ET

Suggesting this presidential gathering truly shows PE Obama's intelligence. Apparently it had to take all of 27 years (not including funerals) for an intelligent and common sense PE to come along to make such an historic event happen again.

Down with the New Prez   January 7th, 2009 6:58 pm ET

Dana is a lot hotter. It will be hard to look at Gibbs for four years.

WIlly Brown   January 7th, 2009 6:05 pm ET

Fabian   January 7th, 2009 5:46 pm ET

Is this news? CNN must be really bored.

Sue   January 7th, 2009 5:36 pm ET

How much did this tete-a-tete cost the publc? Maybe Obama should save money instead of blowing ours away!!!

Matt   January 7th, 2009 5:31 pm ET

Did the first dog have lunch with the first dog elect? Maybe the Bush daughters taught the Obama kids some drinking games too.

Yawn.

Mari   January 7th, 2009 5:18 pm ET

@ ALL THE FAR-RIGHT-NUTS……. IT WAS OBAMA'S IDEA TO MEET WITH ALL THE FORMER-PRESIDENTS.

The far-right-nuts do not recognize brilliance when it slaps them in the face, that's why we had two Bush terms!

It is a sign of intelligence and wisdom to listen to the thoughts, advice and ideas of others whom have lead the Nation before you! Once again OBAMA proves that he is indeed a brilliant leader!

THE BUSH DISASTER WILL TAKE YEARS TO OVERCOME, FIX AND DIG OURSELVES OUT OF!

Katie, MS   January 7th, 2009 5:00 pm ET

The O Team is the new A Team. They will do a great job, and take Americans seriously when we say we're hurting. They will listen and tell us the truth. Above all, they won't torture anyone–ever.

I love it.

Baze   January 7th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

lol@power lunch. What were they eating, electricity?

Ex=Republican   January 7th, 2009 4:44 pm ET

I wonder who's idea was this? So where was Michelle-O and Laura bush's luncheon meeting? Why were they left out of the transitional luncheon planning?

I had mixed feelingson this. I was thinking Obama was outnumbered. The former presidents may be jealous of Obama's high ratings and try to intimidate or put him down.

I hope he told bush to hurry up and get out of the White house so he can move in…ha ha

Cynthia Selby   January 7th, 2009 4:26 pm ET

No, hell no!!!!!! If Congress approves this bailout, I'm moving to another country.

gerry   January 7th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

Well at least G.W. Bush took off his bib for the photop-too bad he didnt finish eating..

Independent_me   January 7th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

I hope that President Carter – or Rahm Emanuel – asked President Bush or one of the staffers why they dissed the incoming President by inviting an ex-Prime Minister to stay at Blair house just so that they could refuse the Obamas occupancy when they asked for it. Shame on Pres. Bush!

Shelly   January 7th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

On Israel / Hamas, an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind – yes and a no.

1) Violence / Brute force is possibly never the end solution to a problem – it is just a comfort short term AND creates a long term evergrowing problem (imagine the kith and kin of the innocents killed – their minds have been sown with irreversible hatred!)… I do try to think Israel is considering this an opportune time (before the new Obama administration takes over and gets more pragmatic / even handed and all of this could become unjustifiable / improbable…)

2) Unless the fanatics are overridden by the educated professional smart / moderates in a religion, that religion (you know which one) will keep paying an enormous price… Give the kids more education and DO NOT PRODUCE them if you CANNOT RAISE THEM properly – I know more than 50% of the folks in the religion BELIEVE that Birth Control is a SIN and that explains how many MORONS exist . Once addressed this should take away 50% of the menace. So, can others keep quiet while this menace exists – No.

I can't wait for Dana Purina to be long gone. She has to be the single most gag me w/ a fork woman I have ever heard talk, maybe only second to Ann "the Nazi" Coulter. Please lord lets get a speaker that has half a brain, b/c the nar-tards bush has had lying to us for the last eight years has been dispicable. At least scott Mcclellan came clean

Gerda Edwards   January 7th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Len and Susie,

Which is why Obama couldn't go two sentences without blaming and trying to link McCain to "Bush's failed policies"?

Karen-Phoenix   January 7th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

First time since 1981 that they all got together! Just maybe the American people can come together under this administration and try call us all The United States of America and work together to get us back on track!!! Obama and his team are trying their darndest and we, the American public better appreciate it!!! Thank you Obama Team!!

Kokoblu   January 7th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Quite ironic the power lunchers discuss government waste on the same day Laura Bush debuts the new White House china, valued at a cool half-million. This government has no concept that average Americans are struggling to eat simple foods on paper plates. Get real, Washington, and start living like the people you're governing!!

Gerda Edwards   January 7th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Laverne. I'll give you a clue, so you don't have to buy one (kind of like libs hope the gov't will do for them on everything from now on).

Obama asked for something out of the ordinary, to be treated special, and stay in the BH before the 15th. Hello? You (and Obama) really think it's sitting vacant, especially in the last few weeks of Bush's Presidency???? As the President-elect likes to say when things get tough — there's only one President. Which means Bush can use it as he sees fit, and DID make sure it was available from the 15th on — like for every other incoming President in the past!!!

You're pissed because Obama didn't get special treatment????Sheeesh. By ANY measure, the Bush team has been far more accomodating than Clinton.

Matt   January 7th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

@ No Hillary = No Obama

Hate to tell you, but there's plenty of women in politics now too and they've proven to be no different…male or female you could stick the whole lot of them in a Summer's Eve bottle and nobody would know the difference.

At least TCM doesn't sound as racist today   January 7th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

goodness, he was spewing the terms of nappy, monkey etc saying they steal

CNN doesn't pay any attention to content or who is posting it so losers like TCM put up some awful trash occasionally

boered1   January 7th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

hey unknown I am also a Christian but know several NON Christians who object to supporting "faith based" projects with their money, as do I so why cannot I keep MY money used for these things and help adopt more children? (I do this instead of berate their mothers who know they cannot raise a child so opt to abort, I talk with them and adopt their children, the only money I pay is for the mothers/childs medical bills up to two weeks after delivery) so donot speak for me,if you cannot accept the fact that in America everyone has the same rights then maybe you SHOULD leave this country I spent 21 years defending!

TCM no he did not pick anyone for that position unlike bush he knows what he knows and therefore knew he could handle that function all by himself… maybe if your god bush had talked to say even his FATHER we would not be in the mess we are in now remember daddy bush said goinginto iraq was a bad idea!
idiots

Brian   January 7th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

From the look on George H. W. Bush's face, it is obvious that Obama was not his choice for President!

I got news for you, George H. W. Bush — you do NOT decide who the next President will be, the American people do !!

Get over it   January 7th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

One thing is for certian, at least the White House won't be TRASHED when Bush leaves office like it was when Bush took over from Clinton.

What was it, about $38,000 of damage to the White House that Bush had to deal with when he took office??????

TC   January 7th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Are they crazy! Most ridiculous thing ever. Waste of space and the government's time.

Kevin B   January 7th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

I hope the hyper-partisians on both sides are beginning to understand the obvious, which is "we are not a blue america or a red america, we are the United States of America".

The sooner folks understand this fact, we can set about the serious business of restoring our nations greatness and get through this economic mess we have been dealt.

Dave   January 7th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

People have to talk with each other in order to get things right. Let them talk so as to get us out of this terrible state of affairs this country now faces. But after the talking, do things right this time and I expect such will be done now rather than in Bush's administration! Thanks a lot, George!

Steve   January 7th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Hopefully Bush's staffers smacked Obama's staffers around a little bit, to knock some sense into them.

Matt   January 7th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

@ TCM

You're right…because a new position that will be paid something like $150,000 per year whose primary focus 14-18 hours per day will be to help figure out how to cut billions of dollars in spending…that's just too expensive and totally irresponsible. Idiot.

Lucky Robert Gibbs. I wanna have lunch with Dana Perino.

jennifer   January 7th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

The idea of Bush having a power lunch with anyone is laughable. Still I shouldn't snicker this shows his serious side, after all he took time out from riding his bike and watching cartoons. I wonder if they had a coloring table mat for him?

Lynn in NM   January 7th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Bush staffers still trying to figure out how to run the White House?

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   January 7th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

What a treat for the Bush staffers to meet their future counterparts in the Obama Administration – they get to meet real intelligent people with a lot going on between the ears instead of the usual no-mind mentality that tends to live at 1600 Pensylvania Avenue today!!!

By the way folks, TCM is a paid, RNC poster!!! You can tell by the constant stream of misinformation and the Limbaugh-like delivery!!! TCM appears on many blogs spewing the same appeal-to-the-trailer-park crowd nonsense!!!

Let's hope Obama keeps his ego in check and is smart enough to take advice from these four great men.

Susie   January 7th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Gosh, I bet Dana Perino was full of tips on (1) redirecting important questions, (2) ignoring reporters known for their direct questions, (3) lying with a straight face, and (4) never truly answering the question, but getting the 'talking points' out there, and (5) blaming Congress and in particular, the other party. (Actually, this applies to Sarah Palin too…must be a Republican M.O.)

BUSH BEGONE AND NOW 75% OF AMERICA AGREES, FINALLY!   January 7th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

John McCain   January 7th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Who says I was uninvited?

Len   January 7th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

What is wrong with you people?

The American people voted for change because they are tired of old politics. We want our country to succeed especially in these difficult times.
I applaud President Bush and President-Elect Obama for a positive transition. We demanded bi-partisianship and the government working together. And I agree with President-Elect Obama that he will stay in contact with the former presidents.
All Americans deserve to have our government officials working together.

No Hillary = No Obama   January 7th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Power lunch? It's all about power. Whether it's over lunch, breakfast, dinner, snack time, cocktail hour, brunch, picnic time. These men have made a mess of everything and Obama is nothing more than one more male ego. They start wars they can't finish; they do illegal things for their own gain – Chicago politics has to be the biggest cesspool of them all. They cost millions of Americans their hard earned monies, they dick around and dick around and smile to the cameras and then pretend outrage in senate hearings. Just add Obama to the heap.

flybyshoeing   January 7th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

TCM, Jack H you clicked on the wrong site. Let me help you out….Foxnews.com. They have been asking for you.

Gerda Edwards   January 7th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

But . . . only one of them was or is the head of the Office of the President-elect. Obama is the first and only!

Is Clinton taking notes on how much more accomodating he could have been during his transition?

B Vars   January 7th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

You're joking right! What do you mean it's not for the American people to determine, it's our money…use your head on your shoulders!

Wheres the Change?   January 7th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Laverne   January 7th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Oh how cute. Maybe Bush got around to telling Obama face to face why he snubbed his family when Obama requested to stay at the Blair House. We now all know it was not because the Blair House was full because your staffers leaked it to the press.
