The President and First Lady will attend a welcome home event in Midland, Texas on Inauguration Day.

(CNN) –- The White House said Wednesday President Bush will go directly to Midland, Texas after leaving Washington on Inauguration Day.

White House spokesperson Dana Perino said the President and First Lady Laura Bush will leave Andrews Air Force Base, and fly to Midland for a “welcome home event” in Centennial Plaza on the town square. They will fly on one of the jets he used as Air Force One during his presidency, though it will have a different designation that day.

Midland was the site of his send-off rally when he left for Washington before taking office in January 2001. The president lived in Midland as he was growing up, and it is the first lady’s hometown.

The President and Mrs. Bush will then fly to Waco, and go to their ranch in Crawford for the first night after leaving the White House.

I haven't agreed with everything that Bush has done while in office, but he's kept our country safe and for that I'm thankful. You may not like how he did it, but he lived up to his promise….no attack on our country.

Obama better be of the same mindset or we will see another attack before his done. If so….please let it be Hollywood.

George Bush and the Stepford Librarian, Laura, are moving to Dallas and the ritzy neighborhood of Preston Hollow. I guess one grows tired of cultivating sagebrush?!

The Stepford Librarian is going to write her memoirs. How long does it take to pen a two-page pamplet? And will Laura explain the death of Michael Denton Douglas?

I can't wait to see what all the liberal whack jobs are saying six months from now when it becomes obvious the PE Obama doesn't have a clue…"

Funny you say that about a President Elect who has already mapped out most of his cabinet and plan for the first 100 days still TWO WEEKS before taking office.

Here's the deal: after EIGHT YEARS of Obama (yes — you will get eight years of him) let's revisit this topic and count the MAJOR MISTAKES made during Bush's eight years and Obama's eight years.

NO ONE is perfect. EVERYONE makes mistakes. NO PRESIDENT IN HISTORY has made the number of MAJOR blunders Bush has during his tenure.

The VAST MAJORITY of America is eager to see him disappear from site.

ran   January 7th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Good to see this happen. Unfortunately 8 yrs too late. CNN please when Bush is gone do not report on anything this jerk does in the future. Thank you. And yes post this.

Charlize   January 7th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

2nd attempt to post –CNN didn't post an earlier one of mine here, nor one related to Palin. Do I detect some bias and censorship here?– Here goes again: BUSH SHOULD BE HEADING TO JAIL, INSTEAD OF TEXAS, LUCKY SOB. And about Palin, in a nutshell I said that CNN shouldn't keep posting tabloid articles about her, directed at ignorant people –potential voters– who adore her because "she's one of us", since all they are doing is empowering her to run for president in 2012, and her election is a threat to the country, because she's a nitwit, even a bigger one than Bush. There, let´s see if CNN's censorship is still in full bloom, and I won't see this posted again!

Just when you thought things were bad enough..prior to 20 Jan 09, after 20 Jan 09, they're going to get worse….careful what you ask for libs, ….many more of you will be unemployed, without a home, no savings….because of fiscal irresponsibility on behalf of the Obama administration that will eclipse the mistakes Bush made…..it's going from the frying pan into the fire! ECONOMICS 101 – you don't increase a tax burden, or further government spending in a recessionary economy……People want change…I do to, but the blindness of the country to elect a bafoon who's never even led a shift at McDonald's….well, you get what you pay for, and in your haste have something…the buzzwords of "Change," and "Hope," sound good, but this selfish democratic fiasco has no intentions of providing either…that's unfortunate, so many believers, yet the results aren't going to be there. So sad for all of us…this cheerleading, party atmosphere will end…and the recession will get deeper….all because of the "me first," "get out the vote,' "lack of any financial sense," population that voted in this regime….let the games begin!

Go ahead, call me bitter, angry…I'm not, it's more of a sad thing; to know that my country could've pulled together and fixed things, however, more problems were brought about. We were supposed to fix the problems Bush left behind, not add to them!

Why not have the whole royal brady bunch for a party so nobody is left out?

Folks it doesn't take all of this hostility. "We" elected President Bush to office … TWICE (and I say "We" even though I DID NOT vote for him but am a member of this GREAT country). Yes he has failed miserably but it's our own doing. So regardless of how you feel about him you can't knock him too hard. If he was doing so terribly there is a thing called an impeachment process that "WE" could have directed "OUR" representatives to implement. Yet "WE" rode the wave hoping things would get better but they obviously did not. While those of you are pointing at Bush as the problem just look at the fingers pointing back at you and accept that "WE" screwed this one up but thankfully "WE" have another chance to rectify the situation if "WE" support the incoming administration and demand that our representatives look out for "OUR" best interests. God speed President bush and welcome aboard President Obama!!!

It's nice to see that "Freedom Of Speech" is still alive and well in America. As a military veteran of 12 years, I know and defend the rights and freedoms of all Americans and it allies at any cost. With that said, some people tend to take these freedoms a little overboard and sound like total idiots in the process. Does anyone remember Sept 11th 2001 and the impact it made on changing America forever? Do I agree with the wars overseas? Yes. Am I dissappointed in how they have been mishandled? Absolutely yes. President Bush could have done a better job, but I am not the president and I have no idea what all goes on that the press never finds out about. He doesn't work on a timeclock, it's 24/7/365. How many of you out there work those hours? Could you have done a better job? For those of you that said yes, I expect to see your names on the next election ballots because obviously we have been missing your expert guidance in foreign affairs. Did all of you bash President Clinton like this when he left office? You remember him, right? The one who let Bin Ladin do as he pleased for all those years. The one who had sexual relations with a young intern in the oval office and lied about it. It's disgusting to me to read some of these messages from obvious liberal democrats who enjoy nothing more than to bash a man who wasn't manager of the local McDonald's, but the leader of America and the free world. Have you ever made a mistake in your job?

Putting aside that it is bush, I imagine that it must be rather emotional for an ex-president to wake up on 21 January with the realization that he really has nothing to do.

For four or eight years, a President has woken up to morning briefings and the stressful environment of making really tough decisions. Ex-Presidents have to go from that non-stop high stress environment to being unemployed overnight. I can imagine how stressful that is.

That has got to be one weird feeling.

People here need to be better informed..the Blair House is where the Obama's will be prior to inauguration, only issue was Obama wanted it in time for his children to start school (about a week earlier than traditionally requested)

And if you think the President actually schedules occupancy of the Blair House, you are even bigger idiots than you sound on these blogs.

as   January 7th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

To the lady in Calif -

What did Bush do regarding Blair House?
If you are referring to the idea that the residence was reserved for the time being & he didn't bump whoever was staying there simply because the Obamas wanted it prior to them normally being entitled to it then he DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!! The incoming president & his family are allowed to move into Blair House a specific amount of days prior to the inauguration. The Obamas are in DC way early to make the transition easy on their children (kudos to them for that) but that doesn't mean they are entitled to Blair House just because they are in town

Dear Jan and those like you,

I have no hate to spew. George W Bush simply put is the worst president ever. From his policies to his reckless disregard for science. From his appointments to his cocky attitude he represents not only the worst administration in our history but considering the safe-guards of our constitutional democracy, his was the worst presidency possible under our system.

All of my animosity towards our W stems from the actions that he has taken as chief executive. The minute he leaves office that all goes away.

Which brings up an interesting point for you Obamaphobes out there. Don't you think you should actually wait until President-elect Obama does something before complaining?

One other thing for you Obama haters. I can sympathize with you not liking the outcome of an election…….. just think how upset you would be if McCain had won the election and the Supreme Court turned around and gave it to Obama.

And now to the current Bush..Who is paying for these to flights back to Texas? We taxpayers again? He should take a Greyhound bus back….Let him sit in the back of the bus like he done to the American public for the last 8 years.

Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Rove and Wolfowitz should be starting their prison sentences for being TRAITORS to our country rather than retiring at taxpayer expense with Secret Service protection and all the other perks they will have. They took a healthy country and turned it into
a debtor nation, hated by everyone on earth, an economic disaster and so many other wrongs I don't have the space to list them all. I just hope Obama has what it takes to provide the leadership to pull us through all that we face to remake our nation and I believe he does. Lets keep the GOP in the toilet where they belong along with the aforementioned retirees and hope they never resurface in any place or time.

By the way under the Bush administration since 911 America has been safe while other nations have face faced the attacks of terrorists. That is no accident.

Chuck   January 7th, 2009 1:57 pm ET

Jan and Noah: laughing, laughing, laughing, laughing, laughing, even most of the sitting Repulicans now think he blew it big time. Laughing, laughing, laughing.

Mike, Syracuse NY   January 7th, 2009 1:57 pm ET

@Proud American, can you actually put together a coherent sentence without the word 'idiot' in it? For that matter, how about just a coherent sentence?

tom   January 7th, 2009 1:55 pm ET

Ah yes…the altruism of the liberals appear once more. And they now want us to support THEIR president.

Good Luck.

RJS22   January 7th, 2009 1:55 pm ET

I love President Bush. What a great man with a strong sense of morality. More than everyone else, he understood the difference between right and wrong and good and evil. The world will be a much worse and dangerous place without Bush in office. You people will rue the day he left office and we got stuck with Obama.

President Bush has protected us for the past 7.5 years. No one would have thought this possible. History will see President Bush kindly.

Polar Bears Against Palen   January 7th, 2009 1:55 pm ET

Jan, Bush wouldn't know what freedom is if it came up from behind and bit him on the half-moons.

US Marine   January 7th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

As I look back on his time as president, I try to think of the good things he has done for this country….. This could take a while!
So thanks Bush for killing my fellow Marines, committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, undermining the constitution & bill of rights, wasting tax payers $$ (that could have been used to save us from the economy your incompetence created), destroying the environment, I know there’s more what else am I forgetting?
I read a comment on here recently that someone questioned how we could think this man was the worst president in US History, & said that title belonged to Hover or Buchanan. Well, Hover’s downfall was a lack of understanding for the economy, & Buchanan was a lame duck but because he seemed unable to get anything accomplished. Bush on the other hand broke more laws & obstructed justice on a level no one could have every imagined! Now that is why he is considered by most historians to already be considered the worst President in US History! It is my opinion that he is a failed leader on a similar level to Emperor Nero.

Mike, Albany   January 7th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

What a stupid picture. Bush: An idiot right to the end. Good riddance, Dubya, and don't ever come back to Washington. We will probably never fully recover from the disaster that was your eight years in office.

Mr. Lugo   January 7th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

Que people posting countdown timers on thier posts in 3, 2, 1 …..

Betty The Baker   January 7th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Ride off into the sunset cowboy!

Republicrat   January 7th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Before all you liberal nut jobs bash all Texans, look around Illinois for a good roll model to show your children. I’d also wait a couple of years and get to know B.O. before I use him as one. Would you use Slick Willie? That leaves Arkansas out.

Virginia   January 7th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Hey Newport News–FYI it is a ten gallon hat and most rich Texan men wear them and ultra-expensive cowboy boots. I lived in Texas in the 80's and while I didn't care for it, at least they are proud of their state and the people who come from it. Bush is NOT an idiot and neither is Laura. Give it up and leave them alone.

Brent Scott   January 7th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Instead of Midland, Bush should go straight to Iraq; walk through the squares outside the green zone (without protection) and see how many shoes are thrown at him then. Only after 4,000+ will he begin to realize that he has blood on his hands for the innocent, dead Americans and Iraqis! SHAME ON YOU BUSH, MAY YOUR DAYS IN TEXAS BE FILLED WITH DISGUST AND REGRET OVER YOUR PRESIDENCY!

Irritated in Fl   January 7th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Thank you for your service and keeping this country safe Mr. President! You and your wife have done a fine job in representing this nation.

marlyt51   January 7th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

I wonder how many people they will have to pay to stand in that crowd?

Ned   January 7th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

Isn't their an Island he can go to like "Corsica"

Trig   January 7th, 2009 1:51 pm ET

Going back to the ranch he bought 1 year before declaring in candidacy to dupe the public into thinking he was one of them?

You don't have to pretend to be a cowboy anymore, George. I'm sure there's a nice place in your home state of Connecticut for you.

Ted   January 7th, 2009 1:50 pm ET

Bush looks better already… like the weight of the world is off his shoulders… Cool!

Good luck, Obama.

Ted

Virginia   January 7th, 2009 1:50 pm ET

For all the naysayers here I say that I can't wait till January 20 either, because we are then less than 4 years closer to being RID of Obama!! He can have a "welcome home" rally in Grant Park again, only this time the park will be empty!!

A Woman In California For Obama   January 7th, 2009 1:50 pm ET

I have never been a Bush Basher but as of today, I am. What he did regarding the Blair House is disgusting. I hope they NEVER return to Washington in any capacity. Having said that-good riddance!

Shame on you.   January 7th, 2009 1:50 pm ET

War Criminal.

He has broken our country, our economy and our military personnel will no doubt suffer for decades to come as a result of Bush's implementation of torture methods. As someone with a loved one currently serving his 3rd tour of duty in Iraq – I'm very offended by the notion that this misguided aggression against a soverign nation that did not attack us has kept us safe.

Those of you defending him are seriously in need of evaluating the facts. Crediting Bush with the fact that we have been kept "safe" is like crediting the captain of the Titanic for avoiding icebergs after it sunk. But hey – tell yourselves what ever you have to so that you don't have to admit you made a mistake in voting for him or believing his lies or having any responsibility for the thousands of dead American military personnel and innocent Iraqi citizens.

If we so cared about democracy, why have we sought to destroy our own?

And yes, northside Irish, you are right – jr. is NOT from Texas, contrary to what the put on accent would suggest.

Dee   January 7th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

He should be going to trial for war crimes instead of going back to Texas. He's a criminal in so many ways.

Daino   January 7th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

Bush going back to the bush. Finally.

dreams?   January 7th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

@Noah,have you become the moderator or is that your lifes ambition?Your on this blog 24/7 and use about 100 names while spewing your Rush Limbaugh sound bites. Why dont you go out and look for a job,or are you collecting welfare too?

Rob B.   January 7th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

He may be one of the worst Presidents in our nation's history, but he is not a bad man. I wish him well, and hope others would do the same. Oh, and I am not a "liberal nutjob" because I think he was a bad President. I just happen to not have slept through the last 8 years,

KG   January 7th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

"Cue the Liberal nut job posts in 3, 2, 1 ….."

Haven't heard from too many "liberal nut jobs", just your average Americans who are very excited to see Bush leave.

President Barack Obama   January 7th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

Thats not the only place he's going!!

Newport News, VA   January 7th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

If I were President Obama, I will wait a few days before conducting any business in the Oval Office. I will have the White House staff open up all the windows to make sure all of the stupidity is aired out.

D-MI   January 7th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

Good lord he looks like an imbecile in that hat…

Dean from Dallas   January 7th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

Now Dallas will known as the site of two presidential tragedies.

NEL E BELL   January 7th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

HURRY UP YOU DIP STICK, DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YA ON THE WAY OUT. THANKS FOR THE MESS YOU'VE LEFT US TO PICKUP. THANKS FOR THE CONFIDENCE THAT I NO LONGER HAVE IN THE GOVERNMENT I FINANCE. HERES' HOPING THE RETIREMENT YOU GET AND HAVE STOLEN FROM MOST OF YOUR GENERATION IS LONG AND BORING. YOU STINK AND CHENEY, IS NOW FREE TO SPEND HIS HALIBURTON STOCK OPTIONS.

Jean, Indiana   January 7th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

First of all, Jan you are stupid if you think the Bush administration was successful. It pains my eyes to look at the Bushes. They have ruined this country and now they are off to live happily ever-after in Texas. Now this is something that Americans should be pouting about. The Blagojevich and Burris story is nothing compared to Cheney and Bush. Only in America do red-neck complain about unfounded rhetoric. Bush and Cheney should be beginning their prison sentences.

Kim   January 7th, 2009 1:42 pm ET

I can't WAIT to wave goodbye and watch him get on that plane. It'll be the BEST thing he's done in the last eight years.

January 20 is going to be a great day!

Oliver   January 7th, 2009 1:41 pm ET

Nice job everyone. So far we've got "good riddens" and "good riddings" but no one has said "good riddance" which is the actual phrase. So you're not only fired up about posting meaningless hatred – you've done it with no concern whatsoever for looking intelligent. Double bravo.

Rick   January 7th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

The level of hate here is the kind of "Change We Can Believe In"?

Steve   January 7th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

Say what you will and what you must. On Jan 20th, we will have worse in there. I just hope my govt check is enough so that I don't have to join the sweeping crime wave of the next four years.

Proud American   January 7th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

What do you give an Idiot President for a going away present?

Lisa   January 7th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

Apparently, the village has been missing its idiot all these years. I guess they deserve him back, then.

Michael (Nashville, TN)   January 7th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

So that's the village who's idiot is missing.

Michael (Nashville, TN)   January 7th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

As the late, great Ray Charles sang, "Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more."

Proud American   January 7th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

I knew that Jan 20th was going to be an emotional day for me, but it looks like I have already started crying. Saying goodbye to an Idiot has never been easy for me, dear God please help me get through this. I know in my heart that America is losing it biggest Idiot President in the history of this country and it's going to be real difficult for all of use to get use to having Intelligence in the White House. But, with time I hope some of my pain will decrease, but I can tell you I'm going to miss this little Idiot of a President.

Jim   January 7th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

And so, having looted, gutted and otherwise plundered his native land, our intrepid yet brainless hero rides off into the sunset.

Hi-ho, Clueless! Away!

carol   January 7th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

Bye!!!

Travis   January 7th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

Can't we just place him into a Wylie Coyote-ish slingshot and launch him through the air out of Washington?

Bob   January 7th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

Joe buddy, by mid July you'll be singing a different tune.

REAL-EYES   January 7th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Take care George. We know that you had help doing all the damage. You were just following the instructions given to you by the evil ones. You had a choice to deal w/the scrutiny of the public, or the wrath of the string pullers.

SG in SD   January 7th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Don't let the door hit you on the way out!!

Good riddance!

Borris   January 7th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

Thank You President Bush for your service. You did an admirable job during a very tough time in our history.

You are to be commended and thanked by All Americans for your service

Robert   January 7th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

They should fly him straight to the Hague to be tried in the World Court for criimes against humanity and/or war crimes. Cheney too.

arc, Lugano CH   January 7th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

The “welcome home event” in Centennial Plaza should be at The Hague.

zzzzzz   January 7th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

@ Proud Americans
Don't lump all Texans in that village. All Texans don't want him back either.. especially in Dallas. He's not a true Texan anyway.

Okay Jan, name 8 things the GWB has done put this country in a better place. And I am a very moderate independent, so much for your lib attack theory, Noah and Jan. Jan you either obviously are joking or you must be an inmate that has not been in the real world in the past 8 years.
