Sorry to burst your fantasy world, but there are 3 branches of government: Executive, Legislative, Judicial. There are two houses of Congress: Senate and House of Representatives. If you represent the average Democrat, it won't be long before Republicans are back in power.

The Republicamn Party will make gains in both houses of Congress in 2010. Why? Because as the current chaos over Burris, Richardson, Penata, etc. shows, keeping Dems focused is like herding cats. The Reps don't have to do anyrthing except wait for the inevitable infighting which has already started. The 'benefit' of being the party of diversity is that you are the party of a dozen special interests (Blacks, gays, liberals, etc..) all of whom have their own agenda and think it's their turn now.

Yes liz, collectively, the Executive branch, the Judicial Branch, and the House of Representatives are commonly called the "Three houses of Congress". I should say "Three branches of Congress" to be more PC.

I'm all for closing the divide. But people - voters and politicians alike - must admit and take responsibility for their mistakes. Obviously leaders in both parties make mistakes; but YOU, the [R]s, are the ones that have been in exclusive power for the majority the last 8 years, and it is YOU that must man-up and take responsibility for the pathetic state the country is in now. That you and your party's leaders continue to deflect blame to B. Clinton, the [D]s, and even PE Obama (before he has even taken office!) for every problem that [R] policies and power have so obviously brought on this country is a sure sign of a dysfunctional party catering to its dysfunctional rightwing base. I for one refuse to close the divide with that dysfunctionality; my family and my country deserves so very much better than that.

You have a good point there; as a republican and staunch conservative, I 'd like to see the country succeed...Obama as well. Hopefully he'll get guidance. Having The three-headed evil monster of Pelosi, Reid and Emanuel in his ear is where the danger is....

Obama would've better served his country as a member of the cabinet; not as president. I believe he's got charisma, and foreign countries seem to like him...so, he'd do well "making nice," relations with other countries.

Instead, we're stuck with him as president, surrounding himself with what he thinks are people looking out for the interest of the country...far from the truth.

If he wanted to prove he's all about the country, and not just lip servicing the right, he should've extended a position to Palin...not that she'd have accepted it, however, could've brought the country more together instead of perpetuating the ongoing divide....

First 2 years of Clinton in office, then BAM! Total loss of the Legislative Branch that the DEMS had controlled for decades.

America will have to learn again is that you cannot trust a Democrat in the White House. As we are already seeing, it's not about the country, it's about Democrat power, with all this non-sense about the vacant Obama senate seat.

I also think it's getting obvious, with all the stuff going on in the Middle East etc.....Obama is so in over his head, he hasn't a clue of what to do.

So, they must choose to either jettison their major backers and work for the best interests of America, or continue to operate according to the dictates of those who have raped, pillaged, and plundered for the last eight years.

My guess is that they'll choose the latter while trying harder to disguise the wolf in sheep's clothing (i.e. Sarah Palin). They'll criticize and obstruct the Obama administration at every turn, and in four years will blame him for not fixing every mess that Bush and cronies left behind.

The Democrats (I've been one for 30+ years) self destruct with their own special brand of corruption.

I'm rooting for Obama to succeed but I don't think he will because absolute power corrupts absolutely and he has absolute power with no one to blame but fellow Democrats for his failure.

Some of you that have already discounted the Republican party are not to political savy!
