They need to call a special meeting on the extinction of their crappy party. Let's be real - how the hell can a person of color feel like today's GOP represents them? Baffling really. NOTHING about the GOP represents TODAY'S America. Get rid of the racists, sexists, hate mongers and religious zealots and MAYBE then the GOP will be taken seriously again. Stop appealing to the lowest common denominator of society. Where are the GOP intellectuals? Oh, I forgot, they actually spoke out against the absurdity of someone like Palin on a national ticket. They did their job.

. . . . . . . . . . . . The Republican comeback already began with Republican Saxby Chambliss . . . . . . . . The Democrat's poured a ton of money in the Georgia race and still lost proving that Obama has NO political coat tails. . . . . . . "

So, you are saying Chambliss has "political coattails", as in "pay to play"?

Chambliss won a Senate seat; so what? Obama is the President Elect, price less!

Turnabout is fair play: I am patient with stupidity but not with those that are proud of it as you are! The Republican comeback already began with Republican Saxby Chambliss winning the senate seat in Georgia and with Republican congressman Anh "Joeseph"Cao winning in the heart of Liberal country in New Orleans Louisiana ! The Democrat's poured a ton of money in the Georgia race and still lost proving that Obama has NO political coat tails. In the case of Cao he beat long term Democratic Congressman William Jefferson WITH a predominately black electorate Remember him? He pocketed $500,000 in bribe money and the FBI found $90,000 in his freezer!! DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU SPOUT OFF!!

@ TCM....... let's get the FACTS STRAIGHT:

Congress BOTH House & Senate have been under Republican control from January 1994 through January 2007! During that time the Republican Congress did all they could to DE-regulate to help out their banking friends and Wall Street!

BUSH HAS BEEN PRESIDENT FOR EIGHT YEARS....... THE BUCK STOPS WITH HIM.

Also UNLESS or UNTIL the Republicans lose the haters like Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Savage, Reagan, etc. and Faux News they will continue to LOSE.

REPUBLICAN POLITICS OF LIES, HATE, FEAR AND DIVISION HAVE BEEN REJECTED BY US, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

As long as the Republicans continue their vile campaigns, we, the People, will reject their brand of politics! WHY? Because, Americans, are a fair, decent people and we are sick and tired of the hate the GOP spews!

Turnabout is Fair Play January 7th, 2009 9:13 am ET
The Weatherman is the epitomy of why the Repugnicans lost this election in almost all three houses of Congress and will lose even more in 2010. It's a good thing.

Sorry to burst your fantasy world, but there are 3 branches of government: Executive, Legislative, Judicial. There are two houses of Congress: Senate and House of Representatives. If you represent the average Democrat, it won't be long before Republicans are back in power.

The black vote needs to rebel on both the Democrats and the Republicans. I am not crazy about the racist Independents either. It's amazing to me how Steele couldn't get the Republicans to give him an ounce of respect until they began to violate people of color. I hope blacks do not allow themsevles to be used by either party. Remember, each party is filled with rich, white men who are present to only serve their interests. The Democrats believe they deserve a pat on the back for recognizing Obama's potential. Get outa here..

SENATUS POPOLUSQUE ROMANUS January 7th, 2009 7:55 am ET
The GOP is light years away from returning to be a viable party with intellingent ideas.

The Republicamn Party will make gains in both houses of Congress in 2010. Why? Because as the current chaos over Burris, Richardson, Penata, etc. shows, keeping Dems focused is like herding cats. The Reps don't have to do anyrthing except wait for the inevitable infighting which has already started. The 'benefit' of being the party of diversity is that you are the party of a dozen special interests (Blacks, gays, liberals, etc..) all of whom have their own agenda and think it's their turn now.

@TCM and Super D: you need look no further than the mirror if you want to know why there is an ongoing divide in this country. It is one thing to put up with the typical uber-partisan nonsense from rightwingers like you two, but the deluded hypocrisy that your ilk now spews towards our new president-elect and the [D] congressional leadership is really beyond all reckoning, as they are trying to correct the very problems that YOU caused by blindly supporting 8+ years of abject [R] failure in the executive and legistlative branches.

I'm all for closing the divide. But people -- voters and politicians alike -- must admit and take responsibility for their mistakes. Obviously leaders in both parties make mistakes; but YOU, the [R]s, are the ones that have been in exclusive power for the majority the last 8 years, and it is YOU that must man-up and take responsibility for the pathetic state the country is in now. That you and your party's leaders continue to deflect blame to B. Clinton, the [D]s, and even PE Obama (before he has even taken office!) for every problem that [R] policies and power have so obviously brought on this country is a sure sign of a dysfunctional party catering to its dysfunctional rightwing base. I for one refuse to close the divide with that dysfunctionality; my family and my country deserves so very much better than that.

The failure of the Republican Party is the extreme 'Christian' hate wing of the party that continues their policy of seperation and division. The GOP's true conservative roots of balanced budgets, smaller government, and less taxes resonates with Americans. But everytime I have thought about voting GOP, there is some moral majority talking head spewing hate and that is just a turnoff for true moderates.

The Republican Party should have a woman run it. They need to stop with all the HATE. If you are a woman, african american, gay, latino - this party offers you NOTHING but HATE.

The party is not for the "average Joe" they are for millionaires. George Bush was the WORSE President in my lifetime. Bill Clinton was the Best.

You need NEW, YOUNG, DIVERSE PEOPLE in your party - get rid of the old white men.

Sweetie

You have a good point there; as a republican and staunch conservative, I 'd like to see the country succeed...Obama as well. Hopefully he'll get guidance. Having The three-headed evil monster of Pelosi, Reid and Emanuel in his ear is where the danger is....

Obama would've better served his country as a member of the cabinet; not as president. I believe he's got charisma, and foreign countries seem to like him...so, he'd do well "making nice," relations with other countries.

Instead, we're stuck with him as president, surrounding himself with what he thinks are people looking out for the interest of the country...far from the truth.

If he wanted to prove he's all about the country, and not just lip servicing the right, he should've extended a position to Palin...not that she'd have accepted it, however, could've brought the country more together instead of perpetuating the ongoing divide....

In due time. History is almost certain to repeat itself as it did in '94.

First 2 years of Clinton in office, then BAM! Total loss of the Legislative Branch that the DEMS had controlled for decades.

America will have to learn again is that you cannot trust a Democrat in the White House. As we are already seeing, it's not about the country, it's about Democrat power, with all this non-sense about the vacant Obama senate seat.

I also think it's getting obvious, with all the stuff going on in the Middle East etc.....Obama is so in over his head, he hasn't a clue of what to do.

The Republicans have a serious problem. They are enmeshed with the wealthy and corrupt who have been calling all the shots, but their agenda has totally bombed (except that the wealthy and corrupt have become more wealthy and corrupt).

So, they must choose to either jettison their major backers and work for the best interests of America, or continue to operate according to the dictates of those who have raped, pillaged, and plundered for the last eight years.

My guess is that they'll choose the latter while trying harder to disguise the wolf in sheep's clothing (i.e. Sarah Palin). They'll criticize and obstruct the Obama administration at every turn, and in four years will blame him for not fixing every mess that Bush and cronies left behind.

The Republicans don't have to do anything but wait.....

The Democrats (I've been one for 30+ years) self destruct with their own special brand of corruption.

I'm rooting for Obama to succeed but I don't think he will because absolute power corrupts absolutely and he has absolute power with no one to blame but fellow Democrats for his failure.

Isn't it odd that they aren't taking recommendations for chairman from the 2-term President? Wonder why that might be. The Founding Fathers were right - factions are a bad idea.

The Weatherman is the epitomy of why the Repugnicans lost this election in almost all three houses of Congress and will lose even more in 2010. It's a good thing.

In my opinion, the Republican Party will never be successful again -- until they all learn that the American people will no longer tolerate their hate-filled, divisive, fear-mongering, threatening, negative maneuvers and language.

Simple, surrender the GOP to Ron Paul and his freedom message of balanced budgets, non intervention, sound money, etc. As long as the Neocons control the GOP they will loose, why? their is only room for one moderate party in America and the Democrates have dibs on it.
So the GOP must decide to return to its roots as espoused by Ron Paul or they can go the way of the Whigs

Some of you that have already discounted the Republican party are not to political savy! As we watch the Democratic party self implode as they have in the last several weeks and watch Obama make one fumble after another we can just watch from the side lines and put a bulls eye on the 2010 midterms! Lovin it!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atta boy, put some salve on that painful wound caused by your party LOSING and try to convince yourself that the new Democratic majority, which is just STARTING it's new tenure all three houses of Congress is coming apart..lol! Nice attempt but you are truly among the stupid and unintelligent if you think Republicans have a chance in Hell in 2010. It's going to get worse for them, I can't wait!

This is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The Republicans are heading to being a Southern regional party that can't compete in most of the civilized world.

hey weatherman - keep believing all of your conservo-fascist "facts" especially the one about the majority if americans being "blithering idiots."

you are suffering from a form of cognitive dissonance – you are faced with the fact that pe obama was elected, but you refuse to believe that it just might be because he was the better candidate.

nope, in your mind, it must be because rush didn’t support mccain! no wait, it was the liberal press! no wait, it was because the democrats bought votes with a stimulus package that didn’t exist before the election! no wait.........

how about this:

the country was tired of your vision of america and the current crop of “leaders” that your party is proffering doesn’t have a clue. good luck for the next 20 years – you’re gonna’ need it.

Whoever gets this job stands little chance of any success given the miserable condition of the Republican Party. I believe the vast majority, including many Republicans, see the Republican Party in total disarray after our nation has endured eight years of an extremist Bush Administration that literally dismantled any semblance of competency of Republican principles. It will take a truly dynamic individual to restore any credibility in the Republican to return the PArty to any prominance for several years to come. I doubt there is anyone within the Repulican Party ranks out there today who has those credentials!
