WASHINGTON (CNN) - The U.S. House of Representatives will vote Friday on a resolution "recognizing Israel's right to defend itself against attacks from Gaza," Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday.

Introduced by Pelosi and House Minority Leader John Boehner, the nonbinding vote would come on the 14th day of an air and ground assault on the Palestinian territory. Israel says it is aimed at halting the firing of rockets into Israel by Hamas militants.

The resolution's language condemns Hamas, which Israel and the United States consider a terrorist organization, for the rocket attacks and "for deliberately embedding its fighters, leaders and weapons in private homes, schools, mosques, hospitals and otherwise using Palestinian civilians as human shields."

Why are we having this resolution? What interest of the United States does it serve?

It is of no consequence to Isreal one way or the other so why are we wasting time, energy, money and political capital to do this?

WAR is HELL for everyone involved. Could it be that this latest conflict is a centuries old fight between David's Israelites and Goliath's Philistines? Hmmm!
Could it be that if the Romans had not killed and enslaved the Israelites and, Mohammed not murdered thousands of Hebrews, the Crusades and Spanish Inquisition not murdered Jews because of their refusal to accept Christ. What of the Czarist pogroms and Hitler's final solution for 6 million Jews.
Haven't we Jews suffered enough? Live and let live. Yes, WAR is HELL but we Jews always have to fight for our survival. We are the chosen people...too often we are chosen for destruction.

The Gaza population is being held hostage by a terrible people who stop at nothing to achieve their agenda...

    The terrible people in question......HAMAS.

Yeah, Hamas, the Iran supported terrorist organization. This is their fault, not Israel.

A dead Palestinian is great PR. That is why they hide among civilians in hospitals and schools (besides the fact that they are less than men). They don't care about the people of Gaza. They just care about their insane radical Islamic policies. Their STATED AGENDA IS TO DESTROY ISRAEL. Negotiate with that!

Typical foreign policy by Americans…Create terrorism by ignoring Israel's injustices towards others.

Oh I get it! Israel attacks and when the Palestinians respond to aggression, Israel them claims they are entitled to invade. Our Congress is dead wrong if they decide to take sides in this. We should be working to resolve the conflict, not taking sides to support one aggressor over another.

  6. just another opinion from NY

This is disgusting Israel attacks UN convoys delivering aid, UN schools, kills UN personnel, hundreds of innocent women and children, injuries thousands of others, does all of this not on their land but as invaders to someone else's land and get this here is the kicker Congress wants to support them. This is the last straw, i refuse to support anyone who votes for this either party including Obama

When the people of the world understand that there is only one tribe, the human tribe, everyone will be a lot better off.

If the people of all these middle eastern nations who are harboring these terrorist would realize that their very own terrorists are the reason for their pain and suffering.... NOT the solution! If THEY would turn on them and turn them in! The whole world would support them! Give peace a chance, Middle East! Wake to the fact that you are harboring thieves in your midsts... a hornets nest of deceit!

Meh.... if someone, anyone... terrorist/s was just across the border in Canada or Mexico firing bombs into our country day after day after day, we would bomb them off the face of the earth! And we would do it so fast, they would not know what hit them! And if those countries harbored those terrorists, we would probably be in all out war!

Seriously, Man! Get your head out of these poor victims story! No one wants the common people killed! That is probably what has kept Israel from doing this sooner! But if those people harbor terrorists who are bombing their neighbors, then they have to take heat! It sickens me that these people cannot see that it is terrorists who are destroying them!.... Not the people and countries they are attacking... religious fanatics are criminal, nothing less!

I am baffled by this. How can this be? The news from Gaza is so awful that I fail to see how a democratic House of Representatives can in any way support Israel at this time. The events of the last ten days or so have been so unjust.

Israel is composed of a bunch of murdering thugs who couldn't do what they're doing without being aided and abetted by the United States. On this subject, I'm deeply ashamed of my country. The Jewish lobby is too strong in this country and our media is on the side of the oppressor. The Palestinians deserve to have a homeland and to be treated like human beings!

"Patience and wait and see" I think most of the world did that in the 40's.
You people just don't get it. Hamas and all these radicals will not be happy until Israel is gone. They hate America not because of our policies towards Israel, it is because we are not Islamic! No President will make them love us, nothing we do short of Sharia law, will change that!

...Hamas knows it's not just dealing with some tiny group of people. Israel is for real! Go Israel!!!!...All you libs who think peace treaties are easy with Hamas have no clue...

    “Go Israel”
The Israeli – Palestinian conflict isn't a college football game. What exactly are you cheering? A touchdown? And how do you incorporate the present situation in Gaza into a baseless and foolish attack on liberals?
You should replace Tony Blair. Then again, if he reads these posts, he already knows he's out of a job.

What a wonderful idea! Lets just support another country that is illegally occupying territory illegal under a UN Mandate. That will help put a stop to terrorism!

Wow! What blatant anti-semitism (and ignorance) on this board!

If Tijuana, Mexico was dropping 75 rockets a day on towns in Southern California - who amongst you would protest if the US went in to disarm Tijuana?

Oh, and, by the way, when the United Nations created Israel in 1948, it created TWO states, side by side: one Jewish and one Arab. Even Jerusalem was divided into Arab and Jewish segments. The Arab world was unhappy with half, it wanted everything. So instead of embracing the newly-created Palestinian state, they attacked the newly-created Jewish one - and lost.

They do not want two states living side by side in peace. They want one. Theirs.

Worse, they don't care how many of their own people die in the process. They love the propaganda value they get when Israel accidentally kills Palestinian civilians in self-defense. And you guys are falling for it.

Why is congress voting on this at all. They obviously do not represent the thinking of all americans. Those of us that disagree with this should contact our senators and congressmen and let them know our thoughts.

Israel is no better than the terrorists in Gaza and I, for one, am tired of our government continually supporting Israel.
