Then-Sen. Obama's chance meeting with Wurzelbacher on the campaign trail in October turned the Ohio plumber into a nationally-known figure.

(CNN) – Joe Wurzelbacher: Plumber. Campaign celebrity. Foreign correspondent?

‘Joe the Plumber’ is headed overseas to try his hand at covering the conflict in Gaza, Wurzelbacher’s publicist Thomas Tabback confirmed to CNN Wednesday.

Wurzelbacher plans to spend 10 days in Israel reporting on the conflict for pjtv.com, a Web site run by conservative media outlet Pajamas Media.

The famous plumber will be focusing on the Israeli perspective on the situation. "It's tragic, I mean it really is,” Wurzelbacher told CNN affiliate WNWO “I don't say that in any little way. It's very tragic, but at the same time what are the Israeli people supposed to do.”

Wurzelbacher told WNWO he’s not worried about the potential dangers of his new gig. "Being a Christian I'm pretty well protected by God I believe. That's not saying he's going to stop a mortar for me, but you gotta take the chance,” he told the CNN affiliate.

“Israeli officials are very excited to have him,” Tabback told CNN.

Carl from MI   January 7th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

Hey Doug… you're an idiot too.

I don't know any Dems or Liberal that would be 'STRAPING' C4 to their chests anytime soon or even if Obama asked them to.

Do you just make this crap up, or did you get it from Bill-O the Clown or Rush the Comedian?

When it comes to intolerance… Conservatives take the cake and you know it. Bill-O, Rush, Coulter-geist, FIXed News and the rest of the gang take intolerance to new levels, beyond anything Dems are guilty of.

You know how I know? Because the Republican Party is the party of INCLUSION, right? Right….

Joe   January 7th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Aw c'mon Doug, give me a break. The average lib wants a conservative dead. A bit dramatic aren't you? I live in a blue state and have yet to see any bumper sticker like that. I think you may be listening to Limbaugh and Hannity too much. Get an original thought and stop singing from their handbook. Before you draw your conclusion that I'm an "average-Lib", guess again. I am an independent but carry common sense and no bias. You really believe that a lib would be a suicide bomber? Pretty stupid thinking on your part. Get an original thought and stop drinking the Limbaugh/Hannity Kool-Aid. You have made them both very rich men.

hey TCM:

When you stick your nose into public life- and keep it there long after you've clearly worn out your welcome- you aren't a "private citizen": you're a public figure. Get your definitions straight, brainiac…

Joe   January 7th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

We are still talking about this guy? Seriously….who cares?

Randy   January 7th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

And who is paying for this little venture? He falsely stated his potential income that may cause him to pay higher taxes. Then, since he is un-licensed to do plumbing, lost any real job opportunity other than a laborer.
If you buy a company that requires certain certificates and licenses to operate, you have to hire and pay, above the normal rate, someone with those creditials in order to continue operating. Apparently, "Joe the Plumber" will no longer be a plumber, so the point to the campaign BS is moot!
He has no plumbing license, no ability to purchase the plumbing company, and no plumbing job!
He is a joke and so will be any of his articles since he really isn't a journalist.

Carl from MI   January 7th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

This guy's an idiot and deserves to get shot over there…

Redneck Republicans pick the STOOPIDEST people to be their heroes!! Maybe Palin will pick him as her running mate for the next election!! I can see it now… Dumb and Dumberer!!

When did STOOPID become glamorous and desireable to the Republican Party? You guys made this guy… seriously, tell him to sit down and shut up before he hurts himself!!

Can a plumber who is not a plumber write a book (ghost written), obtain obsessive media coverage and become a journalist – no resume/skills required.

You can be what you want if provided with the right opportunity (in most cases).

so true Doug. Very mean. Palin didn't have a chance because she vauled being a wife and mother.

TCM> Why does that matter? The guy is a liar and a Republican plant, not some innocent random person. I'm *glad* someone dug up his *real* agenda and put the McCain campaign in their place. The Bush campaign played dirty when he ran against Kerry…to the point of lying about the man's service record…were you complaining about that, too?
The public deserves to know the actual truth. THAT is how you run a campaign.
As for Joe, he has a nerve to think that he has some special protection from god just b/c he's a Christian (wow, I thought Christians weren't supposed to "bear false witness. Interesting). So I guess all the Palestinians dying right now are hated by god or something…
They are welcome to keep him.

With all of the tunnels reported in Gaza, maybe Joe can fit some pipes while he is there, if he can get his license.

Maybe, he should have taken Britney and Paris with him too. If one celebrity can make a journalist, I bet three celebrities can make 1 1/2 or 2 journalists.

Nelson   January 7th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

I hope this is a joke

Doug   January 7th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

I live in a blue state and have seen many lib cars with stickers on them that say Joe the plumber should be killed.

While conservative Americans want terrorists killed, the average liberal Democrat wants his or her fellow Americans killed who have views that differ from their own, or dare question their Messiah.

The hate inside the average lib is strong, if Obama told them to bomb conservative radio stations, most Democrats would be straping the C4 to their bodies within minutes. Yeah, and they will tell you how tolerant they are, that's how much they value honesty as well.

Flick   January 7th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

"The famous plumber will be focusing on the Israeli perspective on the situation."

That's the ONLY side anyone ever focuses on anyway. And what are the Israeli people to do? Well, for a start their government could actually observe a ceasefire to the end.

Back to Joe the Plumber. It's just a publicity stunt.

Why is this fake plumber trying to be in the same limelight with PE Obama and other politicians? He brushes off Senator McCain and now he wants to "pretend" he is a politician, just like he "pretended" to be a business owner. All of a sudden he is using God in his tidbits of he thinks are sentences. Unbelievable! I hope he pays his back taxes, child support or whatever he owes with the money he will make. Well, when he tries to "run" for congress, the big boys will remind him of who he is not. LOL.

Personal to TCM: Joe the Plumber handled all the discrediting of himself without any help from anyone!!! Your party latched their wagon to him and came out looking like fools when his credentials didn't stack up!!!

arc, Lugano CH   January 7th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

The conservative media outlet Pajamas Media is dismissing the severity of the current situation in Gaza by sending this individual. What exactly is his purpose for going there besides 'focusing on the Israeli perspective on the situation', which is pretty much 100% of what is already covered each and every day.

Is Joe ‘The Country First Patriot' going to stand up and say 'All Arabs & Muslims are Terrorists'…?

You don't need to tell Americans Conservatives that. They already believe that.

Susan   January 7th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

“An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water.”
— John Gardiner

a society that exalts a plumber (or would-be plumber) just because he figured briefly in a political campaign, deserves whatever it gets!

I am sick of hearing and reading about Joe the FAKE plumber. The GOP used this bald, shaved-head white guy trying to rally their base, and they lost the presidential election. Why McCain chose Joe Wurzelbacher as the icon for the republican voters was not about ralling the race–sorry my freudian slip–the base, I meant the base.

Being of mostly Irish background I have no problem stating my view about their questionable choice for a middle american icon. I was hoping this "grifter" would disappear into the sunset. My hopes were dashed! Now this charlatan is trying his hand as a news journalist for a conservative web site. How apropo! Most Americans are sick of the Joe the plumber saga. Enough is enough. HELLO! Don't give this man any more undeserved attention. There are real problems and issues more news worthy than this CON MAN!

So Joe is stupid? Why because he did not buy an MBA from Harvard or Yale?
I like to remind everyone here that the greatest leaders in history were not part of the top 97% of intellectuals. It was the average guy that stormed the beaches at Normandy, it was the average Joe who downed a plane on it way to the White House to cause it's destruction in 09/11/2001. George Washington was a farmer first, received his PHD after his Presidency. Rockefeller, Joe Kennedy, Ford, the list is endless, that is why this used to be the land of opportunity! Before Socialism.
It is the average American taxpayer who will burden the national debt.
There are too many here in the blog that feel that they are somehow better and above someone else, yet their own rationalities reveal the true self.
You go Joe and be all that you can be.

This is insulting to journalists everywhere. Many of us go to school then labor in news rooms for years developing our interviewing skills, our writing skills, our diction, our camera presence, etc. Reporters are a unique breed who crave information. This jerk can't even properly complete a plumber's apprenticeship. I'm insulted.

Erik S.   January 7th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

You guys (most of the posters) made him famous, same as you are still making Palin a force. You all just don't get it do you? It's always someone else's fault or someone else is stupid. I say this again, look in the mirror fools. You keep on harping on Palin and how stupid she is and keeping her in the public eye and in a few years you will really have something to cry about, again, because it's someones elses fault. Idiots.

I agree with the common theme of the posts that this is not news worthy. I find out interesting that CNN thinks this is news worthy while Ann Coulter continues to spew hate. More interesting, she does this while wearing a cross to demonstrate her faith. That is someone people should blog about because she is extremely dangerous.

Also stop feeding us dooms day reports day after day. No wonder they call CNN the communist news network. It's our word or no ones. I'll be shocked if this comment actually gets posted as you people usually filter out anything that doesn't agree with your agenda. You people hate fox news? ANGIE January 7th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Well my god what is the world coming too a lying non plumber who owes taxes is going to the Middle East what the f is going on???

You see, she's regurgitating exactly what the Obama cronies dug up on this private citizen….their mudslinging in attempts to draw attention away from the fact that Obama may have had to answer his question…honestly…..and this campaign tactic worked time and again for Obama…anytime an issue arose about Obama, his cronies quickly reversed the topic with something out of context; a slight of hand…3 card monty…of course, CON men, are good at that.

anonymous   January 7th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

I am SOOOOOOO tired about hearing about thisguy. This guy is pathedic! Seriously, he had his story shared on television and now he thinks he is a great god coming down to bring peace. WHAT A MORON.

NICK   January 7th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Pajama Media must be owned by Fox News or a Rich Republican.
Joe "the nit wit"plumber, is going to Gaza to report on the status of the war.. This idiot, who is not licenced as a plumber, does not own a small business, who will never earn $250.000.a year, who owes back taxes on his home and income, will now be rewarded for being stupid, uninformed, and shameless.. Add this to the Palin mess, and we have a lot to thank McCain for… These republicans never cease to amaze me.

JohnM   January 7th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Why are you liberals so scared of a simple plumber?

haha

Derek   January 7th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Joe the Plummer as a reporter in Israel? Sure why not….he might be really good at it for all I know. He can't be any worse than the pro-Hamas CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc…. It would be nice to get a perspective from the Israelis, our ally, rather than the Hamas, a terrorist organization.

Anne E.   January 7th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Israel: meet Joe the Shlemiel.

Next thing we'll be hearing is that this dunderhead will be co-hosting some show with ex-"journalist'-turned-governor Sarah Palin; to be produced by Levi Johnston.

Only the 26%ers could believe that "a plumber outshines the president-elect ". That's the personal quality that they have come to expect from their party.

obama-mama   January 7th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Joe the journalist….Wow….

Proud American   January 7th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

TCM January 7th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

It's bad when a plumber outshines the president -elect….in fact, Obama and cronies were so worried about this guy, the minute after the "historic," meeting between the two, Obama staffers were busy rifling through local government documents to see what they could find to discredit a single American….too funny! The mighty Corrupt Democratic machine scrambling from one question from a private citizen….! What a representation of leadership that was; we're in trouble!

Wow, he's still making headlines I see…CNN please post something newsworthy!! I wonder how he can afford this trip?!?

He's not going to be in the "thick" of anything like Anderson Cooper…he'll probably be on the outskirts of town with a few random spurts of violence…

I'm more worried that CNN is considering this newsworthy!!!!!

Eric the Independant   January 7th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

Joe the Tool merely searches his opinions for formulate a "fact" (or mis-fact) instead of the other way around. Why does he need this job? I thought plumbing was recession-proof? Oh wait, he's not a plumber, just a liar. Lying is certainly recession-proof…

I wonder if has paid his back taxes before he leaves the country!

pepe   January 7th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

Joe is riding his 15 minutes of fame hard. I know the economy is harsh. But Joe the reporter?

Coming to you live from Gaza, this is Joe the unlicensed plumber. Since the elections, I haven't been invited into your living room, so I thought I'd come in anyway. This time I coming as an ordained con artist. I am looking to turn the rest of my 15 munites into roll over minutes. I will do so under the umbrella of heaven– Christian Power….

Now, getting back to the situation on the ground, Israel should: bomb bomb bomb.

Dear Joe,
Please stop by Iraq while your there put your bald head in a $10,000 toilet built by Halliburton/KBR for our troops and flush repeatedly. By the way, since the water quality provided for our troops by these "private contractors" is horrible, you might want to take some anti-biotics first. Good luck and please stay there….

Sincerely,

That publicist sounds like a giant tool too. “Israeli officials are very excited to have him,” Tabback told CNN. Yeahhhh…in the midst of war they're excited to have this guy come over and report.

"It's tragic, I mean it really is,” Wurzelbacher told CNN affiliate WNWO “I don't say that in any little way. It's very tragic, but at the same time what are the Israeli people supposed to do.” Way to sum up a life and death issue Joe…"what are they supposed to do?!!?! gaaaahawwww!"

KS Exred   January 7th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

What an idiot, and how stupid of CNN to think we would think this is news! This guy is not a plumber, even though he decided to work as one. He is not a foreign correspondent and taking a plane to a war zone does not make him one any more than my walking into a surgery makes me a surgeon.

This guy has made a fool of himself at every turn. His initial comments and questions to PE Obama were all based on lies, He is not a plumber but a handy man (no license); he never was intending to purchase business worth $250,000 (his boss was never intending to sale and said the business at most is worth $100,000); he was working on and off and at the time wasn't even being employed by his on and off boss with the plumbing business. He has not paid taxes in 3 years and was not registered to vote. The guy is a liar with no education and is only doing whatever it takes to make as much money as possible. Fact is only the ignorant are interested in this nut job. I thought I would never say it but he is actually dumber than Sara Palin.
