I hope Barack Obama reminds him of his racist comments against African-Americans when they meet tomorrow...

Let's see increasing unemployment, unavailable healthcare, terrorism, gang violence, failing economy, we've become a third world country. Wonder how we could fix this?

Larry in Houston TX   January 8th, 2009 10:54 pm ET

You're right, Texas Teacher, they are coming to Houston, by an average of around 100 per day......and they will continue to do so....
until they do something about the immigration problem......all they have to do is : pay about 100 bucks, and get a fake drivers license
and a S.S. card......they're doin it, every day, down here.....That's why we can hire them to do our lawns for a couple of bucks, and everything else you can think of, just for a few bucks..

ME IN FL   January 8th, 2009 10:02 pm ET

Texas Latina,

Rick is talking about "illegals" he is in no way referring to the people like your parents that came legally into this country. His parents came the same way, legally.

You have to admit that there are laws in this country which all of us have to respect and that in your parent's country, Mexico, you cannot work, study or take advantage of any welfare system if you are not legal. As a matter of fact, if you are an illegal alien in Mexico, they put you in jail and send you back to the country where you came from. So why can't the US do the same???? This country does not owe anything to Mexico or its people

And please don't play the racism card??? This is matter of abiding and respecting the laws that we have. If these people come to this country illegally they should go back and do what is necessary to come to the US in a legal way like millions of others have done. Amnesty should not be given to any of them, because that will be like rewarding them for their lawless behavior and it wil be a mockery for legal immigrants.

SMR   January 8th, 2009 10:00 pm ET

Let Mexico use some of our Marines to go in and wipe out the scum-bag drug lords

Joan   January 8th, 2009 9:59 pm ET

Albo58,

Illegal immigrants don't go through Mexican border control either. How do you expect the Mexican gov't to stop them? Besides, they like the foreign income. The US has to do the dtopping.

Maria   January 8th, 2009 9:53 pm ET

It seems inappropriate for the President Elect to be meeting with any Foreign dignitarys prior to the Inauguration.

What happened to ONE PRESIDENT AT A TIME?

Chris in Va.   January 8th, 2009 9:53 pm ET

@ Mike Syracuse NY......Mikey O, do you ever take a day off from being a arse? Don't you have some pictures to take or something?

Joan   January 8th, 2009 9:47 pm ET

John,

Really?? Yes, Canada is important, but Mexico has a bigger population. How can you say they are all criminals ? do you know them all. I am a Canadian who lives htere and they are great people!!

Texas Latina   January 8th, 2009 9:19 pm ET

Rick Roberts: you talk as though every Mexican you see is an illegal. To paraphrase your statement, my grandparents were Mexican immigrants, they entered the USA legally, and became citizens. Now all their grandchildren have degrees, some have Masters', and one has a PhD in physics. They are all productively employed.
What's your level of education?
It saddens me to see how the illegal immigrant issue brings to the fore the thinly disguised racism toward all perceived Latins.

No Incumbents 2010   January 8th, 2009 9:14 pm ET

@ Joan
Sounds good, but some liberal would say that those businesses are racially profiling people.

Joan   January 8th, 2009 9:10 pm ET

Americans do have control of the situation, but it's easier to blame the Mexicans. Stop hiring them and they'll go home. Start blaming the employers and maybe things will change. And instead o wasting money on a wall, start buying Mexican instead of Chinese.

Mari   January 8th, 2009 8:50 pm ET

@ SCOTT L..... GET THIS STRAIGHT...... OBAMA IS NOT THE CURRENT....... PRESIDENT.......BUSH ......IS........WHAT HAS BUSH SAID OR DONE???????????????????????????

Mari   January 8th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

Of course the far-right-nuts will predictably complain, attack and demean anything and everything Obama will do for the next EIGHT years!

Of course Obama will meet with Canada, so he is meeting with Mexico first.

President Obama will need to REPAIR all the damage Bush did to our Foreign relations!

No Incumbents 2010   January 8th, 2009 8:46 pm ET

What's all this it's about time mess? This is only a ploy to make it look like some kind of reform is coming. BS! The Repugnacants like the cheap labor provided by these "non registered immigrants" (Illegal Aliens), and the Democraps love the votes, from families of the "hardworking victims" (Illegal Aliens) and Lulac.
No one has the juevos to do what is right for AMERICA!

ml - California   January 8th, 2009 8:42 pm ET

Whatever is said between Obama and the Mexican President, we probably will never know. Immigration is a subject that no one wants to control and this country is getting hurt with all the Illegals taking our resources, freebees, refusing to work or pay taxes. HOW LONG IS THIS TRASH GOING TO CONTINUE? AND DRIVER'S LICENCES AND AMNESTY FOR ILLEGALS – give me a break! Why not just sell America to Mexico and end it all! The Illegals, whether Drug Cartells, Smugglers or do-nothings get more priveleges than Americans do.
IT IS TIME TO TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY AND FIGHT!!!

Joan   January 8th, 2009 8:38 pm ET

Rick,

I agree that illegal immigration needs to stop. But let's look at the situation. If American firms weren't hiring them, Mexicans wouldn't come. In fact, amny are going back becasue there are no jobs. Immigration control will help, but stopping the hiring will be even more effective.

People will always find ways around border patrols and immigration officials. But, if they can't get jobs, they won't come, or if they do, they won't stay.

Fed up before it starts   January 8th, 2009 8:37 pm ET

Right now every single powerful New York State position is held by someone who lives and works south of the Tappanzee Bridge.

Give us some confidence, Governor, that you know that there is a great big state out there, NOT just New York City.

Choose an upstate person for the Senate seat, or at the very least, choose an experienced legislator – someone who doesn't need a map to find her way around the Capitol.

Texas Teacher   January 8th, 2009 8:23 pm ET

And another thing.. when OUR companies go elsewhere, they should be forced to pay a decent wage! I don't know how exactly, but I know it can be done! We need to work with the heads of states to see to it .... that THEY do NOT let ANY companies come in unless they DO pay a fair wage. If you are a good leader, you take care of your people in this way. I'm sick of the corruption all over the world that keeps people destitute and starving while their politicians get RICH! :(

No To Organized Crime From Mexico   January 8th, 2009 8:20 pm ET

Barack -

We need to militarize the border against the Mexican drug cartels. There is too much violence spilling over into the United States.

Mexico's police are sometimes infiltrated with druggies and can not be trusted. Let's not let the respect of law and order in the US get watered down by hand holding with Mexico.

Joan   January 8th, 2009 8:19 pm ET

Bert,

Try again. Mexico is in North America!

Joan   January 8th, 2009 8:17 pm ET

Good. The U.S. needs to work closely with Mexico. Instead of funnelling all the business to China, why not send some to Mexico? The U.S. would be much better off with prospererous neighbours to the south in addition to a prosperous northern neighbour, Canada.

Albo58   January 8th, 2009 7:55 pm ET

Hopefully the new president-elect will tell the Mexican president in no uncertain terms that he MUST get a handle on the illegal immigration of his people into our country...yeah, that'll happen!@!

John   January 8th, 2009 7:54 pm ET

Mexico smexico. Our only important neighbor is to the North. Mexico is simply a bunch of criminals.

Texas Teacher   January 8th, 2009 7:51 pm ET

For me.... I hope that Obama makes sure that we have accountability from the companies who get the money to rebuild whatever with this purposed money!

I want accountability proving that they are NOT using the money to hire ILLEGAL aliens to do the work! Texas and no doubt the rest of the country will most certainly do so unless they are FORCED to do otherwise! Of course, they will want the most money they can make.

It sickens me that under the Bush administration there has been NO accountability from employers who hire ILLEGAL aliens! :)

Scott L   January 8th, 2009 7:34 pm ET

Yet he has STILL said nothing about Iran and Palestine. HYPOCRITE!

Rick Roberts   January 8th, 2009 7:33 pm ET

Because they feel that if a Swede can do what my Grandson can do, why go to America to get a candidate. The fact is that,"NOT BECAUSE HE IS MY GRANDSON" but because he is able to solve problems that none of the other folks can. I would take a Mexican American who is brilliant to solve any problems we have here in the USA. I am not a racist, I voted for Obama and do not look at him as our first black President, but "OUR PRESIDENT". I spent 9 years in the Navy and I was taught to respect the UNIFORM regardless of what "COLOR" the person who wore that uniform was.

themoi   January 8th, 2009 7:31 pm ET

Lets' hope they are talking about how soon we can reconstruct the Berlin Wall at the border. The illegals are leaving because there are no jobs so when the economy improves let's make sure what jobs we have go to legal Americans and those who want to become legal–not those who exploit the system and flaunt the fact that they are.

Isaac   January 8th, 2009 7:31 pm ET

This is good news because our neighbor could use some help with their drug war problem. We should help them just like were helping a far away country, Iraq (and I don't mean destroy the country but put some money or investments).

Fed up before it starts   January 8th, 2009 7:28 pm ET

How about meeting with Cuban leadership and taking this opportunity to just end the outrageous boycott that has caused so much suffering among the Cuban people?

We happily deal with communists and thugs the world over. China, Russia, etc etc etc. Just stop the Cuba nonsense once and for all.

Kelly   January 8th, 2009 7:28 pm ET

Good job, Obama! We need a visionary plan for North America and our hemisphere. A plan that better deals with the challenges we share and builds mutual opportunities for the future. A stronger and healthier Mexico and better relations with our southern neighbor would not only have wonderful humanitarian outcomes but it would also make the US stronger and healthier.

Ted:Canada   January 8th, 2009 7:25 pm ET

We need CHANGE !

You should be meeting with the Canadian Prime Minister. The diversity in our country better reflects the US demographic landscape.

Add to that – Canada is your Number One economic trader world wide – ask your States!

Not to put Mexico down as they are trying real hard...but when you get chance COME TO SEE CANADA – Obama you will be amazed!

Obama – By the way we invented your Blackberry!

Smile!

"the true north strong and free"

Franky   January 8th, 2009 7:25 pm ET

Uh-Oh...I think we're gonna need more security in there...PLEASE! LOL!!!

To tell you the truth, I would be very happy if he does something about the immigration issue and protect our borders. Mexico is so messed up that literally it has an effect on the economy with the migration and so forth. Mexico may be the one that needs change than expect but they are our neighbors, we have to not only protect us but protect our relationships...Gaza is a good example.

Plus, I only let two people talk about Mexico...our President(or the new elect when he's sworn in) and Lou(Dobbs). Our President because he's in charge and Lou because he's always been looking out...

So many questions to the world that need to be answered...

Mike, Syracuse NY   January 8th, 2009 7:20 pm ET

Someone tell him the Mexico isn't one of the 57 states.

Rick Roberts   January 8th, 2009 7:18 pm ET

It's about time. We need to let the world know that the game has changed, or at least will, when Obama is President. It's time to let Mexico know that we are not taking in all of there rift raft. How many lawns do we need mowed?
Let's get with the program.
My parents were Italian imigrants but they followed the USA rules and became citizens. They were PROUD to be Americans. Let every Mexican who wants into the USA follow the same standards.
My Grandson is a college graduate in computer science and a company in Sweden wants him to work for them. He is going through more red tape than you can imagine. Why can't we do the same here? Nobody in Sweden is worried about international opinion. They are doing what they feel is right.
Let us start to do the same.

Independent_me   January 8th, 2009 7:17 pm ET

Hope Obama tells him to provide jobs for his people in Mexico. Why is Mexico so corrupt? I mean the US is also...but we still manage to get some things done and provide a halfway decent living for Americans...

Well, at least we used to...until we got Bush-wacked!

Randy in Cleveland   January 8th, 2009 7:16 pm ET

Already reaching out to other leaders, Bravo President Elect!

Bert   January 8th, 2009 7:15 pm ET

Nikky,

I meant to say Latin America instead of South America!! LOL

Bert   January 8th, 2009 7:14 pm ET

Niky,

The reason is because our President elect will actually work with our allies in South America.

Polls here show that about 82% of Canadians support President Elect Obama.. much higher approval rating than our prime minister!

Does this come under foreign policy?! Let's hope they'll be talking about illegal immigration and border crossings.

MikeH   January 8th, 2009 6:55 pm ET

That's pushing the "One President at a Time" policy a bit.

Caulderon can wait another couple of weeks to find out what Obama has is store for border security.

boered1   January 8th, 2009 6:55 pm ET

I guess the Mexican President wanted to see what it would be like to talk with a REAL Leader in America for a change.

Chris from NY   January 8th, 2009 6:50 pm ET

He is meeting with Mexican President when he's not the President yet but would not comment on the Isareli/Gza situation. I am an ardent Obama supporter but he better tell Congress not to vote on their support for Israel. It will not sit well with the rest of the world. Let America's voice be heard through the debate in the U.N. Let it be a policy issue and not drag all Americans into this because it will exactly be what the House will be doing if they vote on supporting Israel. They will be representing the American people when some of us do not agree with what Israel is doing in Gaza. Israel has the right to defend itself just as the Palestianian people have the right to condusive living in their territory.

Niky   January 8th, 2009 6:48 pm ET

Why?

It is quite obvious that the "adoration of Sarah" show has slowed down and she is not getting nearly enough attention here as JUST the governor of our state. It is often said about children–that any attention is better than no attention. This woman cannot stand being out of the limelight! She needs another pageant to feed that ego! Pathetic!

I hope PE Obama can give some of his ideas to the Mexican President about creating jobs in Mexico for his people so they won't have to leave their own country and come across the border to the US.
That would be a very useful meeting and who knows maybe it might just give the Mexican President a light bulb moment.
