Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.
Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

Earth to Sarah Palin, come in Sarah Palin! Her capacity for delusion is astonishing. Go away!

Or, actually, as a Democrat, bring it on. Talk about somebody who can singlehandedly split the Republican party.......

Of course Tina Fey made light of Palin, that's what Fey does, she is a comedian and uses satire to make people laugh. Couric was already plenty famous when she did the Palin interview, that is why they picked Couric, because she was a well known, female journalist.

Palin needs to get some thicker skin when it comes to her and her family being under public scrutiny during the course of a campaign. The American people need to know everything about someone running for office, because in the end it matters who they are as a person as much as their policy. In the end, it was her policies and the way she carried herself during the campaign, that cost McCain the election. She takes digs at his campaign, but she is the person from the far-right that started to racialize and polarize the election. She has nobody to blame but herself and her lack of international intelligence and experience to blame.

Palin please just get over it. You put yourself on the national stage by accepting the VP nomination when you were not ready for it. YOU made yourself look like a deer in the headlights during your 3 notable interviews. Nobody did it to you.

Wow, this woman STILL doesn't make sense. If her interview with Couric went so badly that first day, maybe she should have brushed up on her speaking skills and thought through some possible questions and answers. Everything is always everyone else's fault with this woman. She NEVER takes responsibility for anything that is of her own creation. She really does make me sick and I am tired of her seeking the spotlight every chance she gets. If she truly didn't want the attention to be on herself and her family, she should have declined the nomination. If she still wants out of the spotlight, she should refuse to give interviews. The fact that she continues to give interviews (but only to those media outlets sympathetic to her politics) shows that she relishes the spotlight and the media attention. That's on her.

Me thinks the Republicans exploited her the most. She fell for it and now there are few rewards so she's going to try and deflect the truth.

You, my dear, were exploited by McCain and the Republican strategists.
    They are your own kind.

For once, Governor Palin needs to take responsibility for her own actions: She was not prepared to run for VP of the United States and at any given time if she was uncomfortable with anything the McCain Campaign asked her to do, she could have said "No." It is very poor sportsmanship or whatever the correct term is for her to point fingers now that she lost the race or rather McCain lost. I'm sure had the outcome been different, we would not hear thise comments. Suck it up Governor; you are partly responsible for some of what happened. You were not an unwilling participant and I am sorry to say, your integrity leaves a lot to be desired or at the least is questionable.

    whine. whine.

    Focus on real solutions.

If you are the butt of jokes, and come off as uninformed, maybe its because you are uninformed.

Deny that you are guilty of crimes of abuse of power when we all see in the news you were actually found guilty. That ought to stop the laughter and exploitation.

Exploited? Did SNL force her to appear on stage and yes, perform in skits with Fey and other SNL regulars? I didn't think so.

I'm not sure why she is still in the news. These issues are two months in the past! The time to do something about Couric and Fey would have been then. She's still playing the victim, even after the election has ended.

Sara admit you are not the lower states choice, people with little
or no education voted for you. You may be upset with the outcome
of the election but get over it none of us are interested in seeing
Russia from our house or having our elected officials say
you betcha. You loss the Miss Alaska contest to a Black woman
and you have now been beaten by Obama. Maybe you should
examine yourself for not achieving your goals as a politician
and a woman who believes in abstinence with a daughter who
    did not follow your orders.!!!!!!

Huh? Is it me, or does Sarah Palin seem to confirm every single critique or concern about her competance whenever she makes the mistake of opening her mouth. Mrs. Palin, if you are really worried about being exploited by Tina Fey, Couric or others, STOP SAYING INCOHERENT, IDIOTIC THINGS IN PUBLIC!!!!!

Oh Boo Hoo Hoo.....Palin brought all her deserved criticizm on herself. Now she wants to whine about it??? And as for her pregnant teenage daughter.....if those two kids were really serious about the whole marriage thing, they would have gotten quietly married before the baby was born. Because they chose not to do that, the appearance of a forced situation becomes plausible and again, Palin can't complain when she chose to put her family in that position with her acceptance of the VP candidacy. Too bad Sarah but that's the price you pay.

I suppose if Palin wasn't ready to answer fairly simple and direct questions from Katie; ie., "what do you read?", then she certainly wasn't prepared to hold the second highest office in our nation.
She should stick with what she knows best...shooting moose.

SNL has taken jabs at the most famous politicians in the world. I say, if you can't stand the heat...get out of the kitchen.

Sorry Sarah, but Tina Fey was a world wide star before you came along. Then comes the exploiting line. Who was Joe(Sam the plant)the Plumber again?
Sarah brought Levi along and the talk was that Bristol and levi were getting married. Now they have a child and they are still not married.
If you do not want to be talked about stay out of the news.

Palin should be blaming herself for being so ill prepared for an interview with Couric who is if anything to easy on her subjects. The fact that she is still around in the media shows how easy they are on republicans.

    Sarah ,
try reading a news paper or book some time.
