Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

Palin, be careful for you ask for. You signed up for the spotlight and dogonit you got it. It does not do you any good to blame everybody else for how disasterous this thing turned out for you. Maybe a little reflection will do you some good. The only way to redeem yourself from the Katie Couric interview is to step back, get yourself educated and when you emerge again know what you are talking about. it is as simple as that because cutsie won't cut it!

    1. We're still talking about Sarah Palin. This should be a New Year's Resolution for our friends in the Left-Wing Liberal Gotcha Media: No more Palin stories. She's done. We're tired of her. She was a reckless choice and I thank God everyday that we weren't cursed with her as VP.

    2. I love that she's blaming everyone else for her own blunders.... still.

Palin, please be quiet and stay away from mainland us politics. when you were asked what kind of newspaper do you read, it does not mean to underestimate you, but, since you wanted to be the very far right hardliner kind of person, she wanted to know if you are open to the other side of ideas or at least read to learn and compromise. I am surprised tht you are a graduate of journalism, I doubt it, being a hockey commentator didn't help you much to broaden your knowledge.
to conclude i say you are a loser, disappear for a while learn from your mistake and come back to the real world. try to be moderate you are still young.

    Happy New year

Sorry, Sarah, but what should say "a great deal about our society" is your candidacy itself, not the media's scrutiny of it. You were nominated to be the freaking VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, not of the student council. Of course you should be the subject of an intense gaze; if observations prove you inadequate, that gaze has done its job. Can you believe Americans had the chance to seat–democratically!–such an incurious, unqualified ideologue in such a high position in the federal government? Why, We'd never alloW ourselves to loWer our standards, hoWever crazy things get... oh, WWWait...

    Oh great. Here they come.

Say what you want about Palin, but I believe she can be upset about the remarks regarding her daughter. Any parent can agree with that. Don't come here with your high and mighty attitudes and act like Sarah has no right to say anything, she is first and foremost, a parent.

I will give it up to Tina Fey, she nailed it, and was hilarious at doing it.

Huh? After all of this time she still can't string together a coherent sentence.

It still doesn't seem to have sunk in with the dimmest bulb on the political chandelier that national candidates of all colors, genders and political affiliation are subject to ruthless media scrutiny today, especially when they are seen to be overreaching or unscrupulous. And, yes, Caroline "Um, you know?" Kennedy has been getting the same treatment.

Palin needs to stop complaining, she's only reinforcing the impression that, to paraphrase Phil Gram, Republicans have become the party of whiners.

Seriously?! Ms. Palin can parade her family around ad nauseum during the election and then claim foul when someone else plays upon her own verbage. When is her term in Alaska up. I'm hoping Alaskans will vote her out the next chance they get and then Sarah can get on with the business of cleaning up her own house.

For her to be saying America is in a sad state, well she only needs to open her eyes to view the hypocrisy.

    Tsk, Tsk!

Now she is complaining about SNL 🙂 Remember that she accepted to appear on the show? How stupid! ! ! ! How can someone with minimal IQ agree to go to a place where people are mocking her/him left and right? Palin just learned that people were NOT laughing with her but AT her 🙂

First of all Is it just me ... or did everyone else see Palin on SNL along side of Tina Fey. Secondly ... Palin did not make Fey a "world-wide star". With a hilarious comedy on NBC, years of success on SNL and amazing skills as a writer ... Fey just got lucky that she looked like Palin ... or unlucky

"But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

No offense ... but once that "kid" has a kid ... she's not a kid anymore

And yet, she had no problem being interviewed by Couric or going on SNL. That shows how stupid she really is.

Kennedy will be appointed because of her name. She has never done anything, But Sarah was a govenor and look how they tried to tear her down, but thank God she is a strong lady and stand up for the right thing.

That's all fine and well to have those opinions, but why did she go on SNL weeks after her "mama grizzly" rose up? You can't use that "exploitation" to boost your own image, and then complain about it after things don't go your way. *That* says alot about a person too.

Seems to me the McCain camp and the RNC exploited her – SNL and Couric were just doing their jobs.

Suck it up for what it is, Sarah. You were and are mindlessly opportunistic. You used your kids as campaign props - and you knew the press would have a field day when word got out that Bristol was pregnant. Yet you put yourself and your gung-ho ambition above that of anyone else. You were an ill-prepared candidate - a gimmick that didn't work. You used McCain and he used you. Grow up and face the music and keep your butt in Alaska. Kudos to Tina Fey and Katie Couric for exposing you for just what you are - a tired beauty queen lusting for the spotlight. Clueless as well.

Attention-starved Sarah is at it again. According to her, she's the only politician that has ever been lampooned on TV. As for her promiscuous daughter, parading her on stage with the unfortunate groom to be does not exclude her from attention. Much was made of Chelsea, and the Obama girls will surely get their attention from the fat Oxycotin addict, Shammity, skank Coulter and the rest. And I'll save all the "you libs are all afraid of her..." drivel that the lemmings are going to write. WE WANT HER TO BE THE CANDIDATE IN 2012. Is that clear enough? Putting her flat earth, creationist, man-and-dinosaur coexistance ideas out there will guarentee another Obama term

If anything more interesting and intelligent had come out of Palin's mouth than simplistic one-liners, she may have been taken more seriously. Perhaps if she had filled her campaign speeches with substantive ideas on relevant issues instead of running it like a pep rally, she would have been seen as a viable VP. Try to picture Caroline Kennedy making the kind of comments Palin made.

she just cant help herself. doesnt she know her 15 mins of fame is over. she's just asking to be insulted. when does her pal the drug dealer go to court? and with all those children, how does she have all this time to be in front of a mike and camera. isn't she still govenor. with all that to do, she must not be doing ANY of them well.

Sarah needs to buck up and take responsibility for her own remarks – there would be nothing to make fun of if she would just shut up! The difference between Sarah and Caroline Kennedy is Caroline is very graceful and reserved (years of living under a microscope). Sarah just babbles, she loves to hear herself talk and talk and talk and talk.......
