Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.
Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

What happened to the "you've gotten be tough-skinned" attitude that she put forth during the campaign? She blames Couric & blames the party for letting Couric interview her, but why isn't she blaming herself for being so full of herself to even think that she could pull off a VP run? She just wasn't prepared for it.

And how dare she compare herself to Kennedy? Even if Kennedy is appointed & totally flops, while it's bad for the state of NY, it's not likely going to impact the country in a big way, but if some lame brain like Palin had suddenly become the head of our country (if McCain had died), that would have had a negative impact like the "shot heard round the world."

I agree, some of the attacks that were directed to the Palin family rather than Palin herself were quite unfair. No one made stabs at Obama's children. I know that Bristol was preganant but what family doesn't have problems, it's a normal thing and no one would want them exploited to the American public. It's just a shame.

How come a journalist major can not listen and understand a question before answering it?

Oh please. Enough of this dunce. If it hurts so much Sarah, crawl back under your rock and stop giving comedians material. Pathetic and arrogant at the same time. What an accomplishment. You betcha!

Didn't she do a cameo on SNL? Apparently she didn't feel that exploited.

What she needs to learn is its better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

Yeah Sure. She was victimized by the media. In one of Fey's routines she quoted Palin word-for-word, following Palin's inflections perfectly. The audience was out of control they were laughing so hard. How would that be victimization? Katie Couric asked Palin simple little questions that a 5th Grader could have easily answered. Palin stammered and stumbled, and the answers she did give only showed how dramatically under-informed she was about pretty much anything.

Sarah, you may be able to bend the rules and recent history in Alaska, but down here in the lower 48, where we have video libraries, it's easy to see that the Empress has no clothes (except those the Republican Party lent her).

Either you're incredibly stupid, incredibly arrogant, or both.

What does it say about our society when someone makes $300,000 selling a baby picture?

What is a better reflection of our society, is how a person with almost zero ability at intelligent debating and public speaking, is given any credence as a potential leader. During the Couric interview, Palin stated there were many ways she wanted to change the constitution, while only giving one example, Roe versus Wade. She become flustered when Couric pressed her for more examples, and she couldn't give any. To stress my point: she wanted to change the US Constitution, the highest law of the land, in many ways, but she couldn't remember any of them (aside from abortion)! For this, and this alone, she deserves to be a the expense of every political joke for the next decade.

What Sarah Palin should take into account is two things; first, that both NBC and CBS lean so far to the left that they make the Leaning Tower of Pisa seem upright. Second, the McCain campaign was, if not the worst, one of the worst mismanaged campaigns in the history of presidential campaigns. She was set up and should just consider the sources and move on.

    Sigh! She should stop.

Welcome to the Big Leagues, babe. Attacking the media gets you no where. And if you are truly from a journalism background, you should know the saying, "Don't attack someone who can buy ink by the barrell."

Next time out, if you mean to participate the next time out, vow to - Control your own image. Get some talking points together. Practice them. Stick to them. And most important - actually have something to say.

You've got four years - go!

Everytime I think Palin cannot get any more stupid, she opens her mouth and proves me wrong. Why will this woman not just go away? She insists on being the joke of the day and she is not even funny. She is plain pathetic.

Sarah, you, your daughter and her baby daddy need to go back to high school. All three of you could carpool to save gas. After you graduate pehaps you will be able to speak English. Right now the only thing you speak is incomprehensible jibberish.

Doesn't she have a family–now with two innocent and beautiful infants!–that needs her undivided attention and care right now? I think she'd gain more respect if she just got out of the news for a year or two to take care of her family than if she continues to give interviews and release statements.
