Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

I agree with Palin about the "unwilling teenagers" and the Caroline Kennedy situation. I also totally agree with her point of view over the "newspapers" matter. I did think Couric was trying to imply Alaskans don't read. I'm glad she's able to come out and be herself, because I think she did have it tough coming into the campaign so late with so much drama going on with the economy. I may not support her politically, but I think she is a decent person.

Come on, have a sense of humor. It's Saturday Night Live, everyone is fair game! Including families!

I particularly enjoyed SNL's response to Palin's grizzly bear comment in their weekend update skit, "Sarah Palin was quoted yesterday in response to a Saturday Night Live clip saying 'the mama grizzly in me rises up, hearing things like that'. Just like the mama grizzly bear in Alaska rose up trying to protect her cubs, right before Palin shot it with a shotgun from a helicopter."

It's not the work of an adult to blame her shortcomings on another-the joke at her children's expense is their own fault for not practicing contraception.

    Simple question to Palin:
    1) If Katie Couric asks what news paper you read and you can name even you own home town paper, why is it her fault.
    2) If Tina Fey repeats what you told Katie on SNL, how is that her fault.
    3) You and McSame, rather tried to take advantage of "Joe the plumber" ... think about that!

The fact that this person even HAD a 12-week candidacy (or at least that the person presented to us during those 12 weeks did) "says a great deal about our society." The election is over. She really now needs to go away.

Like we give a CRAP what this bimbo has to say? Thank god we had Tina Fey, if we couldn't laugh we'd certainly have cried a river of tears if we had to seriously think that the lipsticked piglett could be a 72 year old heartbeat away from the oval office. And katie Couric, what was she thinking, asking all those hard questions like what do you like to read?? Please, stick some antlers on sarah and send her into the Alaska woodlands.

Someone should go 'nukular' on her. Time to retire to Alaska and put the guns away before she kills any more innocent animals.

She's just bitter that Joe Biden is going to be farting in the chair that she was supposed to be sitting in..

p.s. what ended up happening to the $150k worth of clothes the RNC bought for her?? Are her and Todd still playing dress up??

The person that should be irritated by Sarah Palin in John McCain. Her ineptitude on the national stage helped cost him the presidency. The mere fact that she's upset by being lampooned or looked at under the microscope only shows how unready she was to be VP. Can you imagine what would be happening if she were VP and her daughter's mother-in-law to be was busted on felony drug charges?

There is a constant pattern of denial that seems to follow Palin whenever anything negative arises about her. The one constant by her always seems to be that "it's the other person's fault not mine" or things I say were taken out of context, etc.

From all I have witnessed about Sarah Palin I keep getting the same gut feeling about her, namely she is a "con artist" pretending to be someone altogether different than the image she has thus far portrayed to the public.

I simply do not trust her.

    She's still an idiot.

How does someone get offended at someone asking them what newspaper they read?

Caroline Kennedy isn't an idiot like Palin – so a simple question isn't going ot make her say "um....I'll have to get back to you on that one..."

No no Sarah it was alright for you to try and tie Obama to Ayers when at the time of Ayers terriost activities Obama was only eight years old but it's not ok to make suggestions about your daughter?...I agree Bristol life is her life and it should not be ridiculed but now you can come out and understand Obama when you first came out on the campaign and he was questioned about your daughter and he adamantly said the kids were off limits.Your screaming it kills you to hear these types of suggestions ...Well what about Obama 's family when your hateful supporters were sceaming kill him which was far most worst then a silly suggestion.Get real lady you wanted all the fame that came with the nomination of vp so you have no choice now but to take whatever criticism that comes at you.You are no better than any other political figure today that gets far more thrown at them

Why bring up Kennedy? It's very different. Palin was running to be vice president of the US. I'm not saying the Senate is not important, but it's less intersting to the nation as a whole because Kennedy would solely represent NY and not the rest of the country.

Ma'am, I know Caroline Kennedy, and Sarah, you are no Caroline Kennedy. Caroline might be a political novice, but she certainly has a better grasp and understanding of the issues that face this country. You, on the other, are purported (by a member of your and McCain's campaign) to have not paid attention to any national debate in the past 10 years. Heck, you did not even know Africa is a continent!

Please stop comparing yourself to Caroline. She's brighter, more competent and more thoughtful than you!

    She needs to just stop.

Why oh why did she then appear on "SNL"? It's only "exploitative" when it's not benefiting her.

Fey's joke, by the way, was a dig at Palin's "family values" BS. Two consenting (gay) adults can't get married in Palin's loving, tolerant worldview. Fey was pointing out the hypocrisy of her own busted family.

All's fair in bad politics, my dear.

Maybe if she could even begin to accept responsibility for a few of her less-than-intelligent actions she could be given the respect she so obviously believes she is entitled to.

Enough. She's a vapid, egomaniac who consistently mangles the English language and completely lacks self-awareness. Why doesn't she just shut up and focus on running her state ... and just leave the rest of us alone.

Satire has been a part of society for centuries, the french made ridicule an artform in the 17th century, I think. Palin was not targeted unfairly or any more outrageously than any other public figure in the past thousand years. Christ on a cross, seriously, they put Christ on a cross and she is complaining about how she feels about her inability to answer Couric?

Sarah, for ONCE do some self evaluation. Couric did NOTHING wrong. Your answers, from YOU were, well... stupid. It is a reflection on YOU. YOU did not handle the interview well, because of your total LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. As for Tina Fey, YOU gushed over her, saying she was funny, which she WAS/IS. She is a comedian. Get that? Key word COMEDY. Her joke about Bristol and Levi was just that a JOKE. Satire. Good Lord woman, LOOK AT YOURSELF. You accepted the nod to become VP, not even realizing you do not have the KNOWLEDGE to do that job. And you STILL push the blame on everyone else. Couric did nothing wrong, neither did Fey. Stop whining and learn some things, if you want a future in politics. Geeeez.

I'm sure Sarah knows all about not being able to stand the heat in the kitchen and what to do about it. Probably best all around if she really gets bummed out now and confines her future politics to Alaska where she can keep an eye on Russia.
