Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

Spin, spin, spin, Sarah, but the fault was entirely yours. Couric didn't ask what do Alaskans read up here but what did YOU read. Not only can't you speak properly in English, but apparently, you can't comprehend it either.

As for your kids, you were the one trotting them around with you. They should have been in school.

I'm so glad they lost, now if only we can get her out of the Governor's Office..........

It would be wise of Palin to shut up, not to get into a war of words with people who are smarter than her, such as Fey and Couric. Then again, no one ever accused her of being wise, either.

I suppose the next time a drunk falls and breaks his arm, he should blame to ground? Maybe someone should tell her that it may be wise to take responsibility for herself and admit it when she screwed up. The fact that people give this idiot the time of day is amazing to me.

The difference is that Carolyn Kennedy will have a grasp of domestic policy and the importance of foreign relations (an where the countries are on a map). She will also be able to complete a sentence.

Doesn't she realize that no matter what she says it only makes things worse, if she just went away she'd be much better off. NO ONE IS BUYING WHAT SHE IS SELLING

The gift that keeps on giving........ She needs to learn to "just say no", but I'm just as happy that she doesn't learn. Not learning from experience, and not being able to adjust to a more successful approach seems to be a strong trait in the rightwing, including the soon-to-be x-disaster-in-charge. Perhaps its genetic.....if so, then it seems millions of American used that regressive gene to vote for the trifecta of failure, McCain......perhaps its the same gene that causes the uncontrolled tapping of feet under bathroom stalls?

Palin didn't offer up so much as a single novel policy position. Rather, she was a study in hypocrisy: panning "wealth distribution" yet taxing oil companies close to 90% in Alaska and giving every Alaskan a piece of that pie (how this isn't distributing from the wealthy to the non-wealthy, I don't know what is); averring she didn't support the Bridge to Nowhere when she in fact did and only dropped that support when no more federal monies were going to be allotted for it (oh, and the state kept all the federal money for it even though the bridge wasn't going to be built); cutting the budget of Permanent House Alaska, a state program that houses and helps poor and young teenage mothers, by 20% several months before her own unmarried, underage daughter was pregnant (seems abstinence-only education sure didn't do any good); whose husband was part of a movement to unpatriotically sucede Alaska from the U.S.; and griping about federal pork when Alaska is the biggest welfare state per-capita in the U.S.

What a phony - and a quintessential phony, at that.

They exposed her complete lack of expertise, so of course she's bitter about it. Sour grapes, IMHO.

Hopefully, the Palin disaster will move the GOP away from picking candidates based on their appeal to hillbillies, & they'll start geting some people with the knowledge & skills to fix all our mounting problems (not just talk redneck & born-again Bible belt garbage) If so, I may go back to voting Repub again.

Glad she is not VP for USA. Also in an interview she said "she did
nothing wrong in saying Obama is palling with terrorist.(as there were
threats on Obama) as people in Obama camp also wore nasty
tea shirts." But Obama never once degraded her. she is just totally
not a political material. Her daughter is a drop out and no denying
that. No way to set example when your mother is in public life and
parading her children she was just looking for publicity.
