Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.
Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

Really.... I thought a political candidate would fully understand what they were getting themselves into before agreeing to take such a high profile position. I guess if she were involved in a bigger political arena besides the highly populated state of Alaska she would know that.

As far as putting blame on the McCain campaign for her Katie Couric interview... maybe she should have prepared for the interview. I know that is an abstract idea....but give it a shot next time.

How about we take responsibility for our own actions Governor.

So the American electorate again shows why they are disdained across the world – through the elementary school level of discussion that goes on in the comments section.

Palin is a HASBEEN! REALLY, she doesn't possess the intelligence of Katie Couric or Tina Fey.

I wonder if she'd call out these "exploitations" or be upset at Fey if she and her partner were elected...

It seems she's the victim when things go wrong, but doesn't realize that nobody but her was the reason the Couric interview went against her favor.

It also says alot azbout society that the Sarah Palin's daughter engaged in pre-marital sex without protection and is having a baby out of wedlock. It also says a lot that the father of that baby has a mother that pushes and manufactures methamphetamine. It says alot that Sarah Palin willingly lied to the American People on a number of issues during her campaign for VP. It says an awful lot about society that Palin even was nominated...

Tina Fey NEVER needed Palin, but don't tell Palin. She thinks it makes her important. Fey did not want Palin to win because she is too busy being the producer of her own show.

Hey Sarah, how is Levi Johnson's meth lab going now that they busted it...but not until after the election. Law inforcement officials are saying they were told to hold off on the arrest...where have I seen you overstepping your limits in law inforcement before...
And, Wasilla had to hire a city manager when you were mayor because you were sooooo STUPID...but still left the city $27 Million in the hole.

HEY YOU ARE RIGHT SHE IS A RETHUGLICAN!!!

Oh please! She made the pregnancy and marriage of her teenage daughter an issue – and why is she just NOW complaining about Tina Fey's portrayal? Better Palin should go back to Alaska where it seems she thinks people understand her. As a fairly well educated and informed woman I am embarrased and disgraced by her behavior. She was a last ditch effort by the McCain campaign to bolster their polls and votes. That's all. I would have been terrified if a woman like this had her finger on America's weapons arsenal. She's out of touch, inexperienced and shows a complete lack of intelligence. The American public is not as stupid as she may have thought – to fall foe her "good ol girl" act – for that is what it is. And the whining is only making things worse for her. Her example is part of the reason we do not have nor will have in the near future a woman in power at the Presidential level. Pelosi certainly doesn't help but Palin tanked it.

    Sarah–my dear-
Why don't you concern yourself with your other pertinent duties, such as being governor of Alaska and a GRANDMA–instead of trying to blame everyone but your lack of intelligence for faltering. As I recall, you made a cameo on SNL, so like the others have said you must not have felt to terribly upset with Ms. Fey. I think the baby is crying...

Palin is upset because Fey quoted her word for word and Palin finally saw the skit and realised nothing on SNL was made up! Palin must have had a canary to know she really is as dumb as she looks. Thank God, I am Canadian and we know to keep our Conservitives in the minority so they have to share power. Or else we too would be in Iraq. Palin for 2012!!! LOL!!!

It doesn't matter how the media handles Caroline Kennedy. Caroline Kennedy is trying to become a senator (1 of 100), you were trying to be a vice president (1 of 1). Just face it, you dropped the ball when talking to the media. If you can't answer what newspapers do you read, you didn't need to be in the job. Also the question was meant to see if you read only conseravative papers, liberal papers, both or anything in the middle.

Yes, people made careers making fun of you. You gave them the ammo.
