Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.
Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

    Dear Mrs. Palin,

Need you be reminded that the vast majority of Americans in the Continental United States had never heard of you prior to this past election (notice I say "Continental"). And that the elections themselves did not thrust you into what you now experience as "celebrity".

The average, educated, working American knows that John McCain did not personally pick you as his running mate. No. His "entourage" picked you, for reasons we shall not go into at this time.

So you, Mrs. Palin, should be showering Tina Fey and Katie Couric with gift-baskets and cards of thanks for thrusting you into your celebrity stature.

    Regards,

    Z-Man

It says a great deal about our society when a person as dumb, inexperienced, unqualified, and self centered comes so close to being the vice president.

Nice to see the idiot liberals repeat all their Kos/Huffington talking points here. Talk about people who should just shut up and go away.

Why is she comparing herself to Caroline??? HELLO SARAH...You were running to be Vice President! Of course you're going to be under a microscope!

Yes, vice president of the ENTIRE UNITED STATES! Not just one state. Being under the microscope is something to expect.

Then why did Sarah go on Saturday Night Live herself and do the skits with Tina Fey? It's only in retrospect that she thinks they were poking fun at her?????? And if any Governor might be asked what papers or magazines he or she reads on a regular basis – how hard is it to come up with the NYT, the Washington Post, the WSJ and/or Newsweek to name a few..... a heartbeat away – how frightening!

It does say something about our society. How can 40 million voters think that Palin was fit for office. ??? Sarah, you are the problem in society.

Gov. Palin does not bend at the alter of abortion. On the contrary, she sustained life instead of destroying it, and had her beautiful downs syndrome son.

Had Sarah (and her daughter, for that matter) had an abortion, she would have been embraced by the liberal media as "brave" and "courageous".

However, the typical liberal playbook agenda, the very same one that was used on President Reagan, VP Dan Quayle, and the current President Bush, is being tossed at Gov. Palin; Call them stupid.

How is the question, "what newspapers and magazines do you read?" offensive? You're a governer and you find it offensive that people want to know what you read, or whether or not you have any intellectual curiosity at all? Based on her response then and now, the answer is most certainly, no.

Sarah, take the high road and keep quiet! You didn't hear Obama say one negative thing about you when you tried to compare (sarcastically) your experience to his as a community organizer. Even though his community was well over 100,000 and raised several million dollars. What was the budget defecit for the 9,000 people city of Wasilla when you left office? Over $3M? Take the high road and stop whining.

@ Dennis – Palin already say "Also" & "Perhaps" & "Maveric" over a 1,000 times in an interview.

Not to mention Kennedy has a JD from Columbia, but it took Palin how long & how many schools was it to obtain a Bachelors.

    Dennis,

I have to agree, I listened to Caroline Kennedy and I was, "is that what an Ivy League Education gives you?"

    One more thing...

Sarah, you couldn't hold a bear claw to the intellect of Katie and Caroline.

Stop trying to ride the coattails of Superwoman out of your universe!

Improve the schools you attended then get back to us.

Look at the pot calling the kettle "black". After she dragged President-Elect Obama 's name through the mud to "win" she has the nerve to make the comments she does.

This is just the beginning for Mrs. Palin. "You reap what you sow". Whatever you put out there (good or bad) makes its way back to you.

    Give me a break!

The popular sports drink HATERAID has seen a strong resurgence in popularity among died-in-the-wool liberals since Sarah Palin announced she was a conservative and a woman *at the same time*.

The media was quick to be infected with Palin-Derangement syndrome by it's liberal base as well.

It seems not *all* forms of diversity where to be tolerated, after all...

A shame she wasn't a Lefty, then she would have been embraced like Hillary or Pelosi.

    Oh, boo freakin' hoo.

No mention that they went with Couric for her first interview because they thought "she would go easy" on Palin. No mention of her hardcore stance on marriage, who should marry, when and how they should marry. No mention of her Creationist history.

Just the "evil, horrid media, messing with" her precious image.

Give me a break. She doesn't need the media to make a fool of herself.

Strange how someone who ran for the 2nd highest office in America is complaining about being put under a microscope. I suppose in her mind we should just all have accepted her without question.

    I'm just sayin.
