Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.
Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

This woman will DO ANYTHING to make sure she gets Press. And by the way – it is her OWN FAULT she became a joke – she should never have been a Vice Presidential Candidate in the first place she is so obviously unprepared based upon her inability to exchange coherent dialog!

Kennedy is an American name known for years and years. Everything good and bad has been known to us. Caroline is not running for a heart beat away from the president as Sarah was. She was picked without anyone knowing how smart or dumb she is. It was the job of news people to inform us about her. It was not their fault she was not well informed on all the things that you need to know to run this great USA if she became president. She needs to go back to school with her drop out child. When you quit school you are a drop out. Maybe now that her grandsons father got fired he will finish school the right way.

She is so pathetic. McCain pretty much guaranteed a loss when he brought her on board. I hope she goes away and never returns to the public eye.

True idiots never shut up... Keep digging your political future's grave... and stop showing off your family if you are protective of them...

Anytime you throw yourself into the political arena you better be prepared to have everything about you exposed- the good, the
bad and the ugly. She clearly was not prepared for that interview,
or for that matter, the Vice-Presidency, yet she is blaming everyone
else for her failures. Hey, Sarah, looks can take you along way
but probably not to the White House.

Why the focus on Caroline Kennedy? If you want to look at how another woman faired in the last election, take a look at Hillary Clinton. Did they handle her with kid gloves? Absolutely not.

Excuse me, but why is it Katie Couric's fault that Palin couldn't think of a single publication she reads on a daily basis? Even if that was a "gotcha question," which is laughable, how hard would it have been to name the Anchorage paper and the Washington TImes?! If she's so offended by Tina Fey, why did she go on SNL AFTER Fey made the joke about the marriage of two unwilling teenagers? Way to stand up for your principles, Governor. The fact that she's still in the news and that she's blaming everyone else for her failures also says a great deal about our society.

Ironic that the majority of those who left comments here are women. What is even more ironic is that most of the women leaving comments here are progressive liberal feminists. You should all be proud of Sarah Palin, yet you are the first ones crying out "go home, where you belong, with your children!!" Guess who are the morons? Morons

I disagree with most of these posts. I want Palin front and center. She is the great hope for the GOP – and the Dems.

I believe her point about magazines and newspapers is that if she didn't read the "right" ones, she'd be pilloried. Which she would have been.

    Regarding Kennedy/Palin comparisons...
If Paiin is a lightweight (and she is), then Kennedy is a lightweight as well (and she is...)

I'm a Repub and Palin was a piss-poor pick. Solely designed to get the far-right excited about the ticket. Of course it came at the expense of moderate voters. McCain's overall campaign just sucked... I was pretty pumped about McCain and Obama being in the election – finally two people I respect. And no Bush or Clinton! Then McCain runs the worst campaign since Dukakis. Putz.\

Palin exploited SNL as much as it exploited her. After all, Palin appeared on the show after Fey's "unwilling teenagers" line. Anyway, Fey's joke was fair game. Case in point, conservative pinup (and all around super fasco-wretch) Ann Coulter is now on a book tour admonishing Americans for the breakdown of the family supposedly caused by illegitimacy.

And Palin's criticism of Couric is especially confounding. Couric asked Palin no questions for which Palin should have been so badly unprepared. The fault for Palin's performance lay not with Couric, but with Palin (and perhaps her handlers, though I doubt it). Palint's just another conservative who touts the mantra of personal responsibility, then in the face of her own shortcomings, so easily points the finger at others. Tisk, tisk..

katheman – Really? Does it matter? Ms. Palin brought all of this on herself, every time she does one of these stupid interviews. Can you tell me why she only does these interviews with conservatives? Could it be because the far right are the only ones willing to listen to her sob story? You bet'cha.

This is great stuff. Keep yourself and the media focused on the past and rehashing it. Forget about 2012 or beyond and make sure you bring down the rest of the Rethuglicans with you. Thanks for coming out!

Caroline Kennedy is not running for the 2nd highest seat in the world!!!
What is the alternative to doing interviews with Couric? NO interviews? or just maybe on Fox?
Palin is a nim-wit. Please let her go home to the grizzly-den she reportedly comes from and stay there. She seems like a neat person who belongs in Alaska – NOT on the national stage!!!

Love her or hate her, she's probably right about how Caroline Kennedy will be treated. The media will want a LIBERAL woman to fill the shoes of Clinton and will word articles in her favor. If your too much of a jaded idiot to have not noticed it, open your eyes. The media controls your thoughts and you could care less.

Like it or not, but if Katie Couric interviews Caroline Kennedy, she will be given the same softball questions the press has given Obama.

Exploited her? Was she forced at gunpoint to appear on SNL? She looked like she was having a good ole time whooping it up on. She never met a camera she didn't like.

Funny…. I never heard anyone from the media go after Obama's family. Oh wait, that's right – he's a Democrat.

That's because Obama isn't an utter disgrace to human beings everywhere like Palin is. And he didn't give the national media idiotic soundbytes like Palin did on a daily basis. I truly hope she is the future of the Republican party so we can have 20+ years of Democratic rule. It'll take that long just to fix the mess Bush the Idiot made.

She was exploited because she could not answer a simple question like what news papers she reads , give me a break , I still can`t believe their still posting news about her , but I guess since she`s the saviour of the RNC we`ll read about it untl 2012..............................

Looking forward to media asking Caroline Kennedy same questions asked Ms. Palin, with the same intent. Hopefully, Ms. Palin will watch and learn how capable Ms. Kennedy is at answering what newspapers she reads; her thoughts on the Bush doctrine, etc. Bring it on!

So she had to answer tough questions like "what do you read" and SNL used verbatim / direct statements (the 1st time they have done that in their 30 some year history) should say it all to most Americans. Why does this woman have to poor mouth it all the time? And when are the kids getting married anyhow?

The comments now about Panetta or Kennedy (Caroline) not having experience are laughable compared to Palins total lack of experience on all levels. And can't wait for "Journalist" Joe's commentary on Isreal.

Brings me to the realization that the Republicans have succeeded in making mockeries of political leaders (Palin - dress and wind her up and she can fool us all right?) and journalism (but that was already done with O'Reilly and Rush!!).

She doesn't fool me nor does the Republican party - that is what is important to me!
