Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.
Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

katherman: Funny…. I never heard anyone from the media go after Obama's family. Oh wait, that's right – he's a Democrat.

I guess you missed the saga of Michelle Obama not being proud of her country. Never happened.

Palin only has herself to blame in regards to her self-destruction. It scares me to think that a state would elect someone like HER to be their governor. She may try to put out some snappy linesand bring out the "mama grizzly" to appear tough. Palin comes across as a buffoon. C'mon, Alaskans. . .surely there is someone more capable of running your state–isn't there?

"but it also says a great deal about our society.”

I agree. It says no average d-bags will be accepted for high office right now. And it's about freakin' time.

Poor Sarah; if anyone took advantage of her kids it was her and the McCain campaign.

It would be nice if she would drop off of the radar

You people are uncivilized and barbaric. Palin never did anything to you yet she and her family are being viciously attacked. It's unbelievable.

For those of you too willing to cast stones, keep judging all you want, she had more balls and education than any of you to make the attempt to try.

What do you do with your lives to make it better? If you think you are better than her, you try the VP race in four years.

Grow up for crying out loud, if you don't like what you read, move on, you don't like what is on tv, change the channel, if you don't like someone, OMG why don't you burn them to the cross? We aren't a third world country!!!

And we care what she thinks because???? Why is she still talking in public? Can't someone put a muzzle on this grizzly already?! Doesn't she have moose, deer, or some other large animal to hunt? Shouldn't she be in hibernation?! JUST GO AWAY!!!!!!

BTW: Amazing how she's upset about the same show she later appeared on to try to gain popularity points!

    I love what Beth said...

Every time this woman opens her mouth she says something dumb. Keep it up Sarah, there will always be folks who think that you are great (however they are fewer and fewer.) They are like you- living in their own little conservative world of unreality. If mama Palin had been more of a grizzley bear before Bristol got preggers it might never have happened.

Sarah Palin lacks the intelligence and quick thinking that is needed to be a VP next in line for the presidency. She is not well versed in the world and this makes her come across as ignorant.
She says she was exploited by the parody on SNL yet goes on SNL?
Unfortunately, this is the future of our great "leaders". Frightening isn't it?!

This is not about liberal or conservative, republican or democrat. It is about people and finding the right one for the job that needs doing. Our current administration has failed us (yes all of them, not just one or two).

God help us over the next few years as I hope Obama can make a difference.

    Happy New year everyone.

Has she no shame?? Still whining? This lady is a princess who probably cried to her daddy every time her feeling got hurt...now she's crying to the conservative media. Sarah, you're no caroline kennedy, so forget the comparisons.

If Palin is "trailer trash", what does that make Obama, a "half-breed"? Or is that not "politically correct"?

The reason for the popularity of Tiny and Katie is because Sarah screwed up. She made herself look like a fool on the National stage. In front of tens of millions of people. She is trying to shift the blame when it is all hers. Tina didn't make Sarah Palin look bad, Sarah Palin made Sarah Palin look bad.

Caroline Kennedy is not running for VP and might not have to take over as president and therefore doesn't need to be as scrutinized as Sarah Palin. Although it is unfortunate the her children her brought into the national spotlight, the forced marriage of Palin's daughter to her boyfriend due to pregnancy says something about the way she thinks about the institution of marriage...and casts doubt as to why she is opposed to gay marriage.

Ms. Palin, you're the one who put your kids on stage and in the spotlight at every opportunity to gain political capital. You're the exploiter. Stop blaming everyone else and start admitting your own sins. Any ridicule that's come your way came because you have spoken and behaved ridiculously.
