Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.
Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

If Palin wasn't such a tool maybe they wouldn't make so much fun of her and her family.

Can anybody here translate what this person is saying in the last sentence of this article? I've read it several times now and can't understand it. Palin comes off like Leo Gorcey of the old Dead End Kids, who was always trying to sound like an intellectual and, in the process, became completely unintelligible. The woman can't put a complete sentence together.

Well, she was listed as number 2 on the gallup polls most admired women. Can you admire a person for actually thinking people are interested in what you have to say? When what we are really doing is equal to watching a train wreck. The horror of watching the destruction is painful, yet at the same time too facinating to look away. Palin-you threw your daughter out to the public. What did you expect? Now your pissed that Tina Fey didn't throw a baby shower? This is a little different then running for prom queen. Just keep your piehole shut.

this woman is so working my last nerve.......both Palins needs to just shut up and take care of their children. This woman can't get her own house in order and she wants to run a country. I think she thought it was a COUNTY. Clean up the streets of Wasila honey.......and your in-laws. Oh I could go on and on and on......Is this really the best the Republicans could do? I mean come on people. Really. It is no wonder Tina Fey made such a mockery of her. And Katie Couric really just asked her SIMPLE questions.......Palin did all the damage herself. And least we forget the turnkey episode. This is not a bright woman.

Her 15 minutes are up, yet she still struggles to remain in the spotlight. I should not be surprised that she would even compare herself to Caroline Kennedy when she had the audacity to compare herself to Hillary Clinton. She does not have the intellect that either of these women has and yet she continues to believe she is just as worthy of national politics.
I would elect Tina Fey over Palin... Fey is intelligent.

Please somebody either tape her mouth shut or send her to english lessons. she is dumb as a stump!! instead of a pitbull in lipstick. she is george w bush in a skirt. dumb, dumb, dumb!!!!! if she didn't want to answer katie's questions she should've stayed up in alaska, watching Russia from her porch. Or teaching her daughter about birth control. You can't help but insult this dumb bell. she is just asking for it.

Apparently Sarah Palin did not realize that the people watching the Katie Couric interviews were VOTERS who would like to know something about the intelligence of our elected officials. Not everyone is as stupid as she is. As for her children, she should have known that her family was going to be put under a spotlight when she accepted the offer for VP. So its really her own fault. Really Sarah. Go back to that tundra you call Alaska and leave the rest of us alone. We don't want you here.

I don't have much good to speak of the media, but at least I have respect for the kind of monster it is. Palin has no right to complain about her family being exploited when she is the one who put them in the line of fire. As a mother myself, I have no respect for a woman who is willing to take on a job that will keep her away from her down syndrome infant and ultimately throw her teenage daughter to the dogs and I definitely have no respect for the fact that, after all is said and done, she's pointing to blame to everyone else. She's a disgrace to the women's movement.

If she felt Tina Fey and SNL exploited her, why did she chose to appear on the show as a guest??

John McCain picked this Bozo because he thought it would help win the election with the so called Hillary Democratic vote. After you've been duped for eight years, people wise up. He lost and she's still a Bozo.

Gov. Palin, Caroline Kennedy has been in the public eye (and under the microscope) since the day she was born. More has been written about her and her family than you could ever experience.

still crying foul? so does her willingness to do a SNL cameo equal to self-exploiting or ?!?!?! it's always someone but her fault, yes, our country needs a leader that cannot self reflect, cannot stand up from the fall with grace... she was one of the biggest disappointments i had with GOP and realized narrow-minded, racist doesn't = to conservative. move on and move forward.

What a selfish, idiot and ignorant woman she is. Thank God, McCain lost, otherwise she would most likely have been President one day. Can you imagine the state of the world with her on the highest power could have been. It could have been the end of the world.

like it not there is some truth to this – who watches Katie C. anymore?

And I seem to recall more than one family putting their kids on stage – doesn't make it right to attack innocent kids. Same goes for celebs. They may have made a choice but a child has not and is not fair game.

Sarah Palin needs to grow up. In politics if you say something stupid or unintelligent, you will be criticized; and yes, "exploited."
