Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.
Palin had tough words for Fey and Couric.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS.

But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy - a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

Fey's widely-applauded portrayal of the Alaska governor boosted SNL's ratings, while Couric’s audience grew after a series of interviews during which Palin now-famously faltered.

“I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen," Palin said in the interview. "I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.”

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an SNL skit during which Fey's version of Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

The line was a clear reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston. The two announced shortly before the GOP convention that they were expecting a baby and had plans to marry.

"The mama grizzly rises up in me, hearing things like that," she said of a skit. "Here again, cool, fine come attack me. But when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, it kills me."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.

“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

During one of those follow-up interviews, Palin took heat for appearing to be unable to name the newspapers or magazines she reads: "Um of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years," was the Alaska governor's response.

In the interview with Ziegler, Palin called that answer "too flippant" and suggested the question itself offended her.

“To me the question was more along the lines of, ‘Do you read, what do you guys do up there, what is it that you read?’”

"...Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe," Palin added off-handedly.

Palin, who has long criticized media coverage of her campaign performance, also said she is interested to see if reporters are equally tough on Caroline Kennedy as she pursues the appointment to the likely-vacant Senate seat in New York.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.

Sarah – you seemed perfectly pleased to appear on SNL even though they were dissing you so badly. Have you no self-respect? Evidently not, as you even did that ridiculous turkey-pardoning interview in front of a turkey slaughterhouse. Get a clue, will you??

@katheman - probably because to star in a circus you need to be a freakshow. If the media didn't tear Obama's family apart it's because he just wasn't interesting ebough in THAT way.

Similarly - you didn't hear much about McCain's family, did you??

What says even more about our society is that some 47% of our population voted to put this redneck idiot in the Whitehouse! How truly frightening! So Palin is the future of the Republican party? I hope so! That mean that the Reptiles… I mean Republicans have no future! Remember "my friends", the only good conservative is an angry, bitter, unemployed conservative.

Who cares how Caroline Kennedy is handled. Somebody tell this retarded B the difference between a senator and vice president! If Caroline Kennedy wants to run for the highest office then I hope she does get asked simple questions like what newspaper she reads. And I bet she doesn't say "all of them" Duurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
Why doesn't Falin go help her husband figure out how to secede Alaska from the United States. Maybe Russia will take them?

Ugly liberal women still spewing their venom over attractive, successful Sarah Palin.
Oh yes, let's see what the media has to say about the unqualified, born with a silver spoon, never done a darn thing Caroline Kennedy. A US senator? I think not. Ya know? Ya know??

Considering that she volunteered to go on SNL despite Tina Fey's caricature, and that one of the sketches practically quoted her, I don't see how SNL took advantage of her.

Hello my liberal/progressive friends. Like it or not, Sarah will be back much stronger. She may even be your next president. I suspect you hate her so much because you are afraid of her.

Palin is right in being upset about the sarcasm targeted at her daughter. Please, keep the children out of the dirty political mess.
Obviously she is not a very intelligent person. Did we not have some VPs who were categorized as that not too long ago?
Her English is not the best. How about some of our VPs and even Ps who are discredited with some laughable grammatical mistakes?
The problem with Palin was that she was thrust into a situation she was not prepared for. To her credit she tried hard and genuinely to cope -up with; and failed. It was McCain’s fault to select her as a VP candidate and then to not prepare her for the onslaught and media glare adequately. If Palin had been intelligent she would have turned the offer down.

  15. Sarah Sucks

Sarah Palin is nothing but a train wreck. Katie Couric & Tina Fey did not even have to make up material to use in THEIR JOBS. Katie simply gave an interview that a person with any intelligence could do. Furthermore, Palin was running for the second highest office in the nation, I seriously doubt that when it comes to making decisions for our country, the questions are going to be as easy as what type of media outlet she reads. As for Tina Fey, she is a comedian. Her job is to make jokes. What's sad is that Sarah was "Naturally" the joke. There wasn't any "making up" to do. Instead of running our country, she needs to figure out how to run her household so that her teenaged daughter doesn't get knocked up and drop out of school, her husband doesn't practically run her office, and her "special interests" doesn't get people who don't bend to her will fired. Oops, I forgot that she also needs to teach her youngest daughter manners so that she doesn't flip the bird during a photo op. As for a Caroline Kennedy and Sarah Palin comparison, that's like comparing the local soup kitchen to the Chef's table at the Four Seasons so I will not even try.

I have to admit – Palin has made politics so entertaining. I could almost sympathesize with her re. the Couric interviews – she was a bit condenscending and maybe that caught her off-guard – but the Tina Fey thing is ridiculous. SNL has been lampooning political candidates since they started – and she freakin' willingly appeared on the show right next to Tina!!! Come on though, you know we all love reading about her. I'm just waiting for the moment when she shaves her head and attacks a car with an umbrella.

Sarah Palin's image was sullied because of her lack of knowledge about important events and basic geography facts that she should have known. She certainly is not an astute person and falls far below the intelligence demonstarted by Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton. She is definitely not ready for senator of president! Can you just imagine? Oh my! Her ambition precedes her abilities by far.

"Caribou Barbie" just cannot seem to avoid the media spotlight. I wonder if she keeps one eye winking while the other scans the Alaskan wilderness for the lastest kill with her hunting rifle, or it pans the area for a news camera so she can let that big tonque-wagging mouth of hers open up in her quasi North Dakota / Canadian accent, where she can voice her lastest opinions and complaints–just to keep America honest. Sorry Sister Sarah, don't need 'cha and don't wish to hear 'ya, gosh darn it. Have we had enough of you as a lone voice crying in the Alaskan wilderness, YOU BETCHA!

Oh, MY GOD.... this mental patient WOMAN is taking credit for her own retarded interviews with Katie Couric and the fact that her OWN actions became the COMEDIC HIT of the century!!!! LOL. I mean Jesus, you don't have to be a brain scientist to know this woman is nothing but a JOKE on all levels and continues to prove her own STUPIDITY!! It's truly unbelievable.

Viewers only watched the show because they could not believe someone is this IGNORANT and STUCK ON STUPID as Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin is truly the gift that keeps giving no doubt. She must love that fact that everyone views her as a nothing more than a joke and a complete idiot!!!

I can not believe that people are so, self center that they write such hateful things, do they all think that they are better than her and everyone else who is not like them? What job do they hold? What makes them think that they can do a better job. Perhaps they don't have a life because they are constantly on the computer making comments trying to make themselves feel better about themselves so they cut down other people. This is my 1st time responding to such stories only because I can not believe all the hate that goes on in this world. Gret you don't like her, so what, just leave it all alone. No you have to try and keep it going by responding. So in true fact, all of you that what this to go away. Why don't you SHUT_UP

so what if she cant remember the name of a magazine?
and to those who make fun of her for lashing out at those who make fun of her children's mistakes, how would YOU feel about the mistakes of YOUR children being made fun of in the national limelight? think about that. and as for her grammar, just look at some of these posts. talk about poor grammar, myself included. lmao. just remember, she was ASKED to be the vp candidate. and as for the interviews, im sure she was asked to do those also. and as governor of alaska, she could have done a worse job. and if you're tired of hearing about her, why did you bother to read the article to begin with? time to just lay off her and give it a rest.
