Hey, Jeff W. - "I love that the Republicans just won't let this go. They're the ultimate sore losers!" - Are you kidding me? It's only been 2 months, the whiny Democrats have been holding on to George Bush stealing the election (even though their own mouthpiece - the media has debunked it) for 8 years!!! Who's the ultimate sore losers?

Don't think Coleman has strong case anyway. Minnesota superior court has already rejected anymore recount, right? So eventually the people of Minnesota have to speak up. Either governor certifies it or he will be impeached.

Oh gee, what s shock...the repubs can't win so they file lawsuits, ripping off the state of Minnesota so that Franken can't be certified...then they bring up this ACORN stuff, acting so self-rightous about their own dirty tricks....Hey, you repubs inventing political cheating (look up Nixon, Watergate and 2000 Florida). Then you accuse the demos of the same crap you have done all these years...just more of the moronic talking points of these drug-addled talk shot hosts like Limberger and Hangunnity...hey repubs, get on board- the train is leaving you and Sarah Palin behind!

Franken has clearly won this seat and we need him seated yesterday. Coleman knew his chances of being elected as a Republican. When he is a Bush, Cheney man all the way. The last thing the people from Minnesota wants or needs is another Bush and Big oil senator. Franken knows how many more Amercian Soliders need to Die in Iraq. Coleman still has no number for our troops. Nothing else needs to be said.

It's great to see the civility with which we treat each other. No wonder there is so much 'mud-slinging' in politics these days--it's apparently how people talk to each other now. I'm truly disappointed to see so few reasonable--or respectful--comments by you all.

Funny how poeple walk differently with the shoe on the other foot. The same neo-con thugs that pushed for ballot disqualifications, rushed recounts and fast "certification" of a stolen presidential election a few years back now seem to have learned the error of their ways and want slow, deliberate process. Hypocrites! Too bad that Franken's brother isn't Minnesota's governor, then history could really repeat itself.

You guys have to remember, the house, the senate, the presidency... any governorship isn't reserved for the elite, anyone can run, anyone who meets the requirements of the Constitution or their states Constitution... You shouldn't tout people, specifically those republicans out there who just love to tout Al Franken.

If I remember right there's an old president you guys praise. A man that probably against all odds did pretty darn good as a governor and as a president and is well respected on both sides of the aisle.

Think before you speak, and remember, politics is not limited to the elite..

Illinois, Minnesota, some of the Executive branch nominees. I can remember when democrats won in my state of Kentucky using the votes of dead people.

You would think Democrats getting back in office would be a new day, but obviously it is not. And Schummer wants Franken seated. What a surprise.

Not a good beginning for Mr. Obama.

Hey the republicans are only doing what they learned from the democrats. If at first you don't win out right sue untill you do.
Mike

Uh, Mike? Guess you didn't pay attention last time, but it was Bush who brought the lawsuit back in 2000. It was Bush Vs Gore, remember? Not Gore Vs Bush. The recount was occurring on its own in Florida back in 2000 and then BUSH THE REPUBLICAN dragged the election into the courts. The difference between Florida and Minnesota is that Minnesota was allowed to finish the recount.

So Norm learned his legal wrangling from George W Bush, okay? Not anyone in the Democratic Party.

Al Franken is a blathering idiot. Only in America can you see a raunchy, immoral comedian run for a public office such as U.S. Senate. First Jesse Ventura, and now Al Franken? C'mon Minnesota, would you elect Santa Claus to public office too? Better yet, how about Howard Stern next time? I think he and Al would do great things for our state and this country! (dripping with sarcasm) Norm may not be the answer, but Al definitely is not. I have been a Minnesotan my whole life. I am not sure I can claim that for much longer. This states discernment in politics is blind at best.

I really admire the Minnesotan political process for the job that has been done by everyone. It seems that partisanship has been put aside for the law, and that needs to be noted. It's been a closely contested battle, however, it really hasn't gotten very ugly. No matter who wins, which it seems that Franken will probably win, both of these guys deserve pats on their backs.

the gop dont have a prayer of winning anything, this is the begginning of the liberal movement, the minority vote is so large right now the gop knows this in they are afraid that the democrats is going to start governing to the far left,in they cant stop it because they dont have the numbers anymore, thats why so many republicans refuse to run in 2010 because they know the party is over for the republicans.

All politicians lie! Study what they do and not what they say.

Like Bush, He ran the state of Texas and all of the companys he ran to the ground, so did he do to the nation!

Just hope and if you pray, then do so, if you send positive karma, then do so. This next president will be better and hopefully what we need to fix and make right the wrong that has been done.

This is beyond stupid, but quite clever. We all know that Franken has won, but if it doesnt drag on Coleman will still have a reputation and try to pull Franken down. We need Franken to be popular and Coleman to go down in flames

OK, so it is OK for Coleman to ask for Franken to concede the election on November 4th, even knowing that there would be a mandatory recount, but it is NOT OK for Franken to ask to be certified? I'm not saying he should be, if it is counter to state laws, but why can't he ASK? He isn't demanding, he is asking, and his lawyer has some valid points. Now that he has been denied, he should patiently wait until this suit by Coleman is resolved. I'm not from Minnesota, but I actually admire the fact that they have policies and procedures in place to deal with this type of situation. Now, let them get on with the legal stuff and resolve the issue so that the state will be represented appropriately in the Senate. Would be nice if it were before the Inauguration so that whoever becomes the Senator will be in place in time to work with the rest of the Congress to help President Elect Obama get on with HIS job.

If I were Norm, I'd fight this too. He's been cheated an Election Night win by another crooked Democrat. They need to have another recount and verify every single ballot that, that person is living or dead, or even voted for that matter. Who cares if it takes a year to figure out. The Dem's clearly cheated to give Al the win. Explain to me how you can have more ballots cast then there are registered people in so many counties?

Dem's keep claiming Repub's are corrupt. I guess they keep forgetting to look in the mirror.

Do people mentioning ACORN even know what ACORN is and all that they do? John McCain does and salutes them. They spend more time providing free tax preparation for low income people than on voter registration. And is it wrong to try to register the 50,000,000 or so ELIGIBLE voters who are not registered?

I wish Norm Coleman would give up and stop trying to deny Minnesota its Senator. You know, it is really bad when the INCUMBANT senator gets ONLY 42 percent of the vote--if Minnesotans thought you should be reelected Norm, dontcha think they would have given you more of their votes!

I am very proud of Al Franken's very quiet actions in this matter. Given his past, he could have easily done another SNL-type circus act on this (think Roland Burris) but has not. Coleman, on the other hand, is a guy who has some serious ego issues - the "it's all about me" thing. I am one of the people of Minnesota who is being affected by this legal mess. Take it on the chin and let Minnesota have full respresentation.

As far as the jokes regarding who Minnesota votes for - very tacky. At least we have the choice of a third party...

Quite a few differences from the 2000 situation. In Florida, Bush started, and remained (even in media conducted recounts many weeks later) ahead, albeit by a small margin. In this case Coleman started out ahead and the tally changed to favor Franken (I cannot say the re-count was tainted, and will leave that issue for others.)

Franken at least asked for a state-wide recount. Gore only wanted a recount in democrat-controlled counties (who, by the way were responsible for the butterfly ballot that created so much apparent confusion-- the GOP had no hand in that).

Not sure how Franken came down on military absentee ballots, while Gore fought those in Florida.

Coleman has filed one action to contest the count. As I recall, Gore launched a large number of lawsuits, every one of which he lost at the trial court level, even courts with Democrat judges.

In both Florida and Minnesota, however, I think it is clear that the margin of victory was smaller than the margin of error. We have to find a cure for that...

The republican / independent sore losers are showing their true colors once again-- they'll make up anything to discredit the opposition's candidacy or the final ballot count. This is why they continue to lose elections and voters--most of America is sick of the distortions and innuendos. If you don't have a legitimate gripe, you'll just spread the lastest wild rumors, hoping it will further your conservative agenda. It's time to quit with the gossip politics and get real!

Regardless of how this ends up, state law is clear. Whatever their reasons are, the state law that Al has to follow is "In case of a contest, an election certificate shall not be issued until a court of proper jurisdiction has finally determined the contest." Since the election is still in contest by lawsuits and court cases, the certificate can NOT be issued without breaking state law. Yes, it could be some underhanded attempt to be a power-tripping politician, but it could also just be that he's trying to follow state law as he is supposed to.

On another note, what the h*** does it matter whether you're a Republican or a Democrat? Both sides complain just as much! Republicans complain that they aren't letting the election become finalized, while Democrats complain that the election isn't clear-cut and should be tested. Both sides are complaining about nothing, since it's not going to be solved any quicker by people arguing and whining. It's state affairs, and will be solved by state-based systems, not a flame war on some forum or blog.
