WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Bush said Monday that a "sustainable cease-fire" in Gaza could only be accomplished when "Hamas stops firing rockets into Israel."
Bush said that the "choice is Hamas's to make." He also stated that the best way to get a sustainable cease-fire is to "work with Egypt to stop the smuggling of arms into... Gaza.
"Countries that supply weapons to Hamas have got to stop," Bush said.

To be sung to the popular melody:
Bye, bye, Bush....
Here comes intelligence.
I think I'm gonna smile!
I KNOW I'm gonna smile!
I don't want to even talk about Israel's phase 4.
Farewell Mr. Bush. I wish you all the best and thank you for your service.
Goodbye and good riddance. Enron, Katrina, the Iraq fiasco, torture, unilateralism, the destruciton of our standing in the world, an economy in tatters, a doubling of the national deficit, the treasonous outing of a CIA agent for political gain, the politicizing of the Justice Department, the overreaching, incompetence and hubris- anyone who argues that Bush isn't among the worst President in history (if not THE worst President in history) isn't too bright. I wish nothing but bad karma on the man for all of the suffering his Presidency has inflicted on the world.
PRAISE THE LORD!!!
Yes......the end of an ERROR!
I don't mean to sound mean or anything, but... did he seem a little intoxicated to anyone else? His speech seemed very off, even for him.
I wonder who he is talking about.
I have never been aBush supporter, but i think he handled himself wee in this situation. A gracious exit.
Shouldn't that title read "FIRST press conference?" I kid, of course...I know he's held two or three.
when president bush addressed the nation from ground zero it could have been said he was in the way of first responders, but the country needed his comfort and lead...i think had he done the same and landed in new orleans during its bleakest time the country might have been more forgiving...but time to move on and forward.
Thank you Lord. Last anything else from this airhead.
I have never been a Bush supporter, but i think he handled himself well in this situation. A gracious exit.
Lol omg look at his face!
We will miss you Mr President
It could not have come soon enough. Really, he should not have held his first news conference as president back in 2001 because...uh...um...well... HE DID NOT FREAKIN' WIN! AL GORE WON!
vile liberal comments in 3...2....1
YEAAAAAAAAAY! finally...finally after 8 long years of misery under this moron...LAST TIME WE WILL EVER HEAR HIM MALIGN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE in front of the world,,,seems that what he is most proud of, along with those who voted for him, is that, for the last 7 years, america has not been attacked. What people must remember also is that, for the seven years prior to the moron getting in office, america wasn't attacked either...He is still in denial about the incomptence of his regime....4225 americans dead in his war for oil...katrina...economy...7.5 million unemployed (wonder how many of THOSE voted for him)....it occured to me, as I was watching this event, that the dumbest correspondent asking questions was 10 times smarter than this moron who has lead the country for the past 8 years! Good riddance, dubya...12 noon, 20 january cannot come soon enough, and we can only pray that nothing happens where we ever have to listen or see you in front of cameras again!!
Last speech:) Can't wait for his last departure!
Does President Bush believe that untill Hamas stops firing Rockets into Israel, Israel has the right to bomb schools, hospitals, and other shelters the Gazan people have been taken to for refuge?
Even if Hamas is placing Gazan people in these shcools for refuge and using them for death toll propaganda, can President Bush confirm that it was dire for Israel's security to bomb these buildings?
And why can't other Nations of Nato demand that one of the neighboring countries allow the Gazan people refuge? It is deplorable that Gazans' lives are not given the same respect as their enemies!
Ordinarily a person with the credibility and intellectual capacity of Bush would not have much to contribute to other politicians within his party but from what I can tell Bush appears to be the best the have by far in both these categories.
hello is anyone home?
TURN OUT THE LIGHTS, THE PARTY'S OVER- GOOD RIDDANCE-
8 more days and I won't have to see or hear this Idiot again.
