Joe the Plumber: Ban media from war

ALT TEXT

(CNN) – ‘Joe the Plumber’ Wurzelbacher told a group of journalists covering the conflict in Israel and Gaza that he didn’t think the media should be allowed to report on war.

“I think media should be abolished from, you know, reporting,” Wurzelbacher said. “You know, war is hell. And if you’re gonna sit there and say, ‘well, look at this atrocity,’ well you don’t know the whole story behind it half the time, so I think the media should have no business in it.”

Wurzelbacher arrived in Israel on Sunday to start a 10-day assignment for pjtv.com, a Web site run by the conservative media outlet Pajamas Media. The plumber-turned-foreign correspondent said he wanted to cover Israel’s side of the conflict, because he thought the media was slanting the story to make it look like “Israel’s being bad.”

In his first day as a reporter, Wurzelbacher described the hardships of daily life in the southern Israeli town of Sderot.

“I’m sure they’re taking quick showers, I know I would,” Wurzelbacher said. “So you can’t plan your day, you can’t take a picnic.“

Wurzelbacher said he thought Israel should have attacked Gaza sooner. He told a group of reporters that he was a “peace-loving man,” but that "when someone hits me, I'm going to unload on the boy.”

He got a first-hand taste of reality in Sderot, when his group heard sirens warning of a rocket attack. With cameras rolling, Wurzelbacher and his group ran into a shelter.

“I’m in the bunker, I’m sitting there angry, outright furious, that I’m letting this terrorist dictate what I’m going to do because they’re firing missiles,” Wurzelbacher said. “It was fear at first, then outright anger, and then me wanting some kind of retribution. I’m not a person that runs from things, but when it’s a missile, you run.”

“I think media should be abolished from, you know, reporting (the war)”

    - Joe Wurzelbacher, paid member of media reporting the war.

No wonder he supported McCain, Palin, and Bush.

Mr. Plumber is right. The media does not report the whole story about how Israel is basically had made the Gaza Strip an open prison for Palestinians with no jobs and little water.

The Plumber obviosuly does not understand the conflict and should get out.

Better yet, have Joe 'report' from Gaza, and see if he would like to live the treatment the Palestinians are receiving.

this guy is an idiot. no media coverage of war? really? how would we know anything, then? wait on word of mouth? wouldn't he want to know about 9/11? he looks just as baffled as he did when obama spoke to him on the campaign trail. btw, why doesnt he leave and quit reporting, since he is against it? idiot.

So the fact that he is acting as a reporter to report on a war...I bet the irony escapes him...
Reporters MUST cover wars. It is the only way we the people for whom the wars are being fought know what is going on in those wars, because if we left our perceptions of any war up to the millitary information officers, and just trusted that the government was doing what was best, we would till believe that nothing went wrong in Vietnam, and that there WMD in Iraq all along, and that there is no chance of civil war there either.

Joe needs to go back to preparing for his country music career – if he can just get done writing that book...or learning how to read one

Finally a reporter that goes after the unbiased truth. If a governement (i.e. Israel) can't protect it's citizens it loses it's reason to exist. How come thousands of Belgians protest against Israel but not one marches when terroritst blow up a bus with children or a cafe or a wedding? This is the same country that raped the Congo for 100 years. Joe is correct: if someone hits you; you hit back. The solution is simple for peace....Hamas needs to refrain from launching missles; especially from schools and mosques.

Why are you even reporting on this guy? His 5 minutes of fame were up a long time ago. Joe The Plumber's opinion is not news. Stop giving these "tangential" characters more media time than they deserve.

Here is an idea... lets ban the media from reporting stories, presented as "news", that are not important. There used to be shows dedicated to news and then separate programs dedicated to gossip. Now the gossip comes first and if there is any time left they fill it with real news headlines. Only headlines not stories. So "Joe the Plumber" was a man used by the Republican Party to identify with the public as "average people", an average guy representing a group of average people. Now, once again, he should just be an average, guy so why is his opinion still being represented in the media? The government represents the people and the government decide the foreign policy. If the people do not want to know what is going on in war that is one thing, but eliminating the availability to observe it also eliminates the people from deciding if a foreign policy is right or wrong. If the people do not understand, how can the government represent them? Do the representatives also not understand? Current events would lead one to think so.

That's the stupidest thing I've hear. If there is no one to report on horrors or the wars they will never end.

Are we all so slow that we're stooping to Joe's level? Enough of Joe the Plumber! He really is a joke and I, for one, will neither read nor listen to another word about him!

Please stop reporting about this guy. The reason why you would put up a story from somebody with no media credentials, especially when he is basically bashing your foreign reporting, is beyond me. His story makes you look bad, putting his story on your site makes you look bad, and it makes your readers look like uneducated gossip mongers would rather get their info from some fad then and experienced news team.

And he's there enlightening us on what?

So sick of Joe the " fake plumber, singer, author, reporter, media expert"

If anything we need MORE reporting on the wars going on in the world. Unfortunately the media would rather spend their time covering Joe and Palin. I'd rather see Britney slinging her umbrella and shaving her head than those too jokers.

No media allowed? Why is he over there? He is outraged and wants to "unload on the boy"? Wonder what the civilians on the other side are thinking when they are bombarded with more forceful bombs and tanks trampling through their towns?

It's a sad world when someone like Wurzelbacher gets to report about a conflict that is so horrendous and yet so delicate. He is "peace-lvoing man" who wants to get the "terrorists". Someone should let him wander over to the other side to see the dead on the streets and let him decide who is a terrorist and who isn't. Shame...
