Kerry is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

(CNN) — Senate Foreign Relations Committee John Kerry expects a "fair and expeditious" hearing for the nomination of Hillary Clinton to secretary of state, a Kerry spokesman told CNN.

Frederick Jones, director of communications for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the financial information disclosed by Clinton and her husband has not highlighted any problems, though there are some areas where "additional clarification is needed."

Jones said he expected the committee's senators will have "plenty of questions" about the former president's international activities and the list of donors to his foundation.

The hearing is only expected to last one day, with the full Senate vote possible before President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration next week.

And my question is – Why would Kerry or anyone else expect any less? Let they who have done more for America and Americans cast the first stone and I hope they had time to practice. An Egregiously Sickening statement.

Max Friedman   January 12th, 2009 10:59 pm ET

How about asking Hillary and Bill about all that money the mafia-controlled LIUNA (Laborers International Union of North America) gave them in the 1990's. Millions to the Clintons and the DNC.

Read "The American Spectator", April 1997, "Let's be Friends: A mob-Controlled Union Delivers the Goods for Bill", by Byron York.

This will open your eyes. Kerry will never ask questions about it. Why? He has some skeletons in his own closet – Varelli, Avirgan, Christic institute.

wiskers   January 12th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

Unfortunately, the best person didn't get this position. H. Clinton is in no way, shape or form qualified for this position. I think Senator Kerry is being political gracious here. This appointment was nothing more than a poltical appointment to shut up the opposition and squash a disruptive threat. I hope she serves for four years only- one because she is no diplomat and two, because after that we won't have to hear about this diva who rides her husband's coat tails. In the meantime let hope she is nothing more than a showpiece. Her abrasive manner could do a lot of harm to foreign relations.

Has anyone seen Paulson?   January 12th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Poor Kerry still needs to grow a set, after letting Rove smear him.I would have called Rove out to a duel, just like that redneck from Georgia did to someone.

Oh think twice, its just another day of you and me, living in paradise. that's the condition Bush left this country in, and it ain't funny. Stop being so negative and let's stand behind out President and support his efforts to repair the damage left by the current administration. Try being part of the solution, instead of the problem. Our enemies should not exsist within our boarders, and the one's who don't are sitting back enjoying us emplode from within because we don't know how to love, or to be tolorant of each other. Pray that God will Bless this great nation and be there when we call.

Committee Wannabe   January 12th, 2009 9:44 pm ET

"Senate Foreign Relations Committee" Kerry? He's been promoted to be the entire committee now? Very nice! I wish I could be an entire prominent committee…

Karina   January 12th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

Hillary is wonderful and very intelligent. She is going to do a great job for the American people just like she always has. Everyone of those who will take part in her questioning, knows this. The world will be watching them too. The last thing they want on their records is being seen as ganging up on her now especially since world leaders are watching also. I think it's time to clean house with the Bush people and get our country back in order. I hope they don't waste even one whole day dragging on this business and get back to the work , fixing this country and stop the flow of people losing their homes, jobs and struggling to make ends meet.

Once again this is Hillary's job, Not Bill's, this investigation of Bill's activities is total discrimination. How would you like to be judged by what your spouse does, in order to get a job. Ridiculous. Leave her alone.

ananse   January 12th, 2009 8:51 pm ET

Kerry, what is your problem! Leave the committee do their job the way they see fit. Never rush them through anything, may be someone has a reservation. Let them enjoy the freedom of information they may get.

IUnity!!!   January 12th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

Mark you know you love Barack Hussien Obama, but you can't let it show. I hope that he does become one of the best Presidents, especially what Bush left him to fix. Give credit where it's due, and quit sipping on the hater aid. Man, you need to chill, and accept the fact that he's your President. What you ought to be doing is praying for this country and hope that you won't be living out of a box in the next 2 years. It's time we unite and stop being so divided with all of our differences, because the more we come together, the stronger we can become.

Peace….:)

I was disappointed with the selection of so many Clinton appointees, but then again I couldn't believe the news coverage during primaries cause of all the blatent obvious disrespect for a prominent Democrat running for president. She was getting votes, pretty much tied with Obama, but those loud in the media kept shoving her back down and encouraging those against her to lash out so immaturely. Any comment she made and she was bludgeoned. Obama was always the victim publicly though because of the press. It was a shoe-in, easy election for him. We shouldn't complain now about Hillary. Face it, she ain't goin anywhere, might as well deal w/ it.

Lois, Ont., Canada   January 12th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

I was sooo sorry when Obama chose Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State. I wish the 'Clintons & Sarah Palin' would just go AWAY!!!

steven   January 12th, 2009 7:24 pm ET

it's going to be odd for Kerry to chair this without thinking that it should be him infront of the panel. More qualified than Hillary in every way, Militarily, Diplomatically, Politically and congressionally. Kerry should have the post of SoS, by leading the exodus out of the Clinton camp to Obama gave Obama the primaries.

I thought women are emancipated.

Why does Hillary Clinton have to carry her husband's burdens as she goes through the process to become Secretary of State?

alvino   January 12th, 2009 7:03 pm ET

mark-

You are partially correct- Obama is a genius.

Matt   January 12th, 2009 6:55 pm ET

"John Kerry expects a "fair and expeditious" hearing for the nomination of Hillary Clinton." In other words the fix is in and we are going to be stuck with the shrew for at least a little while till she screws up and the rest of the world leaders start ignoring her.

Thoughful.   January 12th, 2009 6:55 pm ET

No one has Presidential experience, unless of course they've served a term already. What Obama has is INTELLIGENCE. That's much needed and will be very much appreciated after 8 years of DUH! Bill Clinton was the last democratic president, therefore, it would be his staff that has experience and should be utilized.

April   January 12th, 2009 6:54 pm ET

By the way Kerry where is your post from Obama (Slick Willy)? Did you do all that for nothing? I mean selling the Clinton's out for nothing? LIKE BILL RICHARDSON, "WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND, DOESN'T IT? TAKE CARE.

Capital Insider   January 12th, 2009 6:48 pm ET

I think Hillary will breeze through her confirmation. I don't see why it would be hung up at all. She is well liked by her colleagues and respected for her opinion.

What I DO find interesting, is the other headline that came up today about how "Obama's rhetoric meets reality." It basically quotes Obama saying that a lot of his campaign promises aren't going to happen in his term (4 or 8). I wonder if this will pave the way for his downfall, and cause some people to wish they had voted for Hillary. The article states that Obama is reconsidering some of his promises and will prioritize them based on what he thinks he can deliver, which is a good thing.

SO if anyone should be wary, I would be cautious Obama, you'll want to keep an eye on Hillary. She could use your backing down from your campaign promises (e.g., doubling of the troops in Afghanistan, and his backpedaling of running up the deficit by his 800 Billion Bailout Package) to her advantage and rerun in 2012.

Ralph   January 12th, 2009 6:46 pm ET

Mark –

When you use the name "Barry Hussein", are you trying to imply that our president elect is inferior because he is black (Barry) and of Arabic descent (Hussein)?

Is this just bigotry or is there something I am missing?

And, keep in mind that wisdom and experience are two very different things.

Obama   January 12th, 2009 6:43 pm ET

What other experienced Democrats are available, except for Clinton's staff after 8 years of Republicans? Most of Carter's have retired. Obama knows as much as Hillary who was primarily a First Lady, in fact he has more legislative experience than she. The two will be a good team.

Cathy, Peoria AZ   January 12th, 2009 6:30 pm ET

The panel should be concentrating on her qualifications as Secretary of State NOT former President Clinton. His international work is his work – if they want answers to those questions, President Elect Obama should have chosen Bill Clinton NOT Hillary as his nominee.

German,Irish American   January 12th, 2009 6:30 pm ET

Uh, isn't there about 300 million dollars in donations unaccounted for in Obama's so-called transparent fundraising campaign? How about we have a special hearing and prosecutor to check into how the election was bought with illegal contributions and illegal foreign money?

mark   January 12th, 2009 6:25 pm ET

additional clarification! such as what foreign nations and leaders benefitted from greasing the clintons palms? get real, send her packing before she completely destroys this country ( not to mention o'bamas presidency) so she can run against him next time! what does it take to expose the clinton's for what they are and is there any senator that has the guts it takes to do it? the one who does gets my vote for the most honest, honorable man in washington.

Now if he would stop sounding like he's from the 15th century when he speaks, the makeover will be complete!

He's got an axe to grind since he wanted to be the SoS, Hill better watch out.

No offense but….Who cares what John Kerry has to say?

A Joke   January 12th, 2009 4:38 pm ET

NO CLINTON NO WAY NO HOW!!!

Lord how I despise the Clintons. It is a freaking joke to appooint her as SOS. How fast we forget about her Bosnia landing lie (misspeak), Bill Clintons shady personal and business relations, and Hillary being more known for her polarizing in-your-face statements than she will ever be known for diplomacy.

I cannot believe the one promise for change this nation has sold it all out to the Clintons. Foreign policy will play a major role in this nation's economic and political recovery. Not with her leading the state department. What a joke.

I beg you Congress since you haven't gotten too many things right in the last few years DO NOT CONFIRM that woman.

Scott the Independent   January 12th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

Don't worry; at the end of your current term you'll be in the Obama adminstration Kerry.

This was nothing more than a consolation prize for Hillary. I wish somebody would call this out for what it is – backroom politics.

boered1   January 12th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

expeditious yes, fair no way if they were fair the liar hillary would not only NOT become Secretary of State she would be in jail!

but this IS the Senate we are talking aobut their understanding of fair is so warped they probably will think this is fair after all they think preventing a duly appointed senator from taking his seat is fair because they do not like who appointed him, to heck with the laws of the land!
