Hillay: You are my role model and always will be . You inspire me so much. You are intelligent, poised, highly educated and so knowledgeable. On the other hand, can you just imagine Sarah Palin trying to answer any of these questions by the committee? That would be another SNL episode.

Catherine Gold:

Before we stop private foundations from accepting donations from foreign governments to use for humanitarian causes, maybe we should institute policies that prohibit OUR government from sending millions to so many of those same foreign governments. Think about it.

There's a big gap between doing what is legal and what is moral, ethical and transparent; and not a conflict of interest. It's a reasonable position to ask that no foreign contributions be accepted while Hillary is SOS.

As soon as Vitter volunteers himself to be impeached for sleeping with prostitutes and showing his own lack of moral fortitude (remember his attacks on Bill and his wife's comments about the Lewinsky scandal?)...then he can start questioning someone else's moral and ethical standards...but not before.

Does she know what the definition of "is" is? More dancing around the flagpole from the Clintons. That's amazing! I expected her to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, just as her husband did.

This is a PERFECT example of the question/accusation equating with the conviction in our country's political system. It's like asking someone on the stand "have you stopped beating your wife, yes or no?" Just because Luger and Vitter are asking loaded questions intended to create fear and doubt, does not mean that the fear and doubt are warranted.

Sandee:
I suppose you are suggesting the GOP is requesting unnecessary information in the public interest rather than their own?

January 20th and no confirmed Cabinet appointees...sounds scary, Michael A, huh?

the clinton global initiative does great things, and will continue to do so...that's Drama, CA woman for Obama?

I used to think you had to live under a rock to avoid scrutiny in Washington; then Sarah Palin came along..

Oh Clinton haters, get over yourselves. You all should be thanking the Clinton's for all that they have done for this country. Stop trying to find something that isn't there. You want transparency? Ask Bush and Cheney about transparency. Senator Clinton will make a great Secretary of State. She will do the job herself and Bill Clinton will continue to do the great work he is doing. End of story.

Riiiiiiiiight, because Hillary is going to sell out the US security interests to those scary brown middle-eastern muslim terrorists simply because Billy's charitable organization received funding from, let's say Jordan, which it then used to help supply sick people in Africa with AIDS and malaria medication. This makes total sense to me. She should be jailed for having anything to do with such disgusting charitable work and her husband should be exiled to the middle east since he loves them so much.

I do not understand what part of this story people seem to not understand. First, Clinton(Bill) has agreed to disclose his donations to the Obama Administration. He is not legally required to do this and is going far and beyond what is required to make sure there is no conflict of interest. Second, why do our lawmakers and some in the media seem to have an issue with this simple issue. How many times does someone have to answer the same question. And finally, Hillary Clinton more than proved she is not only capable, but ready to lead this country and our world to a safer place. And finally part two, the Clinton Global Int. is one of the world most respected organizations. Clinton's work has saved millions of lives and this work should be respected. Good job today, Senator Clinton. You shined.

I think instituting a ban on donations from foreign governments is reasonable. The foreign government could always find a work around to funnel in money, but it is clear to me that the Clinton organization refusing to accept money from a foreign government, at the least during her tenure as SOS, would be reasonable. It's a red flag that she rejected the idea. Conflict of interest concerns are always red flags in all levels of government.

Make way, make way!!!! Here comes the fear mongering!!!! This is complete and utter nonsense.

@ sandee

You got the question wrong. The question is why she and her husband should have to tolerate further intrusion into HIS private dealings through CGI than is required by the law. This is the GOP throwing up a straw man to knock down...VItter only raised this idiocy so he could grandstand about transparency and drum up controversy about terrorist threats when the fact is it has all been arranged to be transparent and nobody really believes in a million years that Clinton is going to sell out the US to terrorists because her husband's charitable foundation received money from somewhere like Saudi Arabia.

Is there a family on the face of the planet that has undergone the vetting that the Clintons have? The outgoing administration has admitted to torture, treason and tyranny but where is the investigation into those actions? A charitable foundation doing good work around the world by one of the most popular American presidents ever is deserving of more scrutiny than the actions of those that have taken the entire world into the mess that it is in today?

Hillary Clinton conducted herself with grace and intelligence during these hearings. She will be a great Secretary of State, and will certainly help improve our image abroad, which the Bush administration managed to leave in ruin.

Vitter, now there's dude who has some issues of his own.

Hope you plan to cover the 'real' issues that Sen. Kerry raised near the end of the hearing about our policies in Afghanistan-Pakistan-India and his discussion of Fatah's weakness v Hamas' strength in the ME. Or his statements about Global Warming.

Or are we going back to the soap opera, fluff reporting of the 92-08 to the side track the discussions?

Absolute 100% transparency is the only way Hillary Clinton can honestly function with any credibility as Secretary of State. If there is a hint of any misdeeds, her enemies of the Right Wing Conspiracy (Hillary's words) will be all over it like flies on you know what.
Proper steps must be taken for some kind of bipartisan review to make sure nothing is tainted. Remember we are dealing with two of the greatest masters of deception.

Question #1-Doesn't Barack Obama get inaugrated on Jan. 20,
2009?
Question #2-Isn't today Jan. 13, 2009?
This leads me to question #3, why are comfirmation hearings on any of President-ELECT(emphasis on elect) Obama's choices for his cabinet going on now? A little quick on the draw there don't you think.

As always, the rules never apply to this despicable couple. So the idiot Obamaniacs and the Clintonistas work out their own "deal" but it's not for the rest of us to know, but they are all "satisfied". Meanwhile, she will be representing us and we will not know what she tells her fat hubby during that pillow talk time (if there EVER is any!). This is un-fricking-believeable. What an arrogant b*itch!

I guess I don't understand. Why wouldn't Clinton agree to the MoU for the time she's in office if there would be no conflict of interest. She's talking about transparency, so this would be continuing transparency. Even though it's not required by law, this would show the american public she's willing to stand behind the "transparent manner" she so professes. Aslo, why doesn't Bill just disinfranchise himself from this organization during her tenure as Secretary of State.

As usual, she's no more than just another politician who is only looking out for her own best interests and not that of the general public. I have to give the Senate Foreign Relations Ccommittee credit for trying to make sure our Secretary of State is transparent about all activities both she and Bill are involved in.

I hope President Clinton is able to rais BILLIONS from foreign countries for his global initiatives alliance. What President Clinton has done and is doing with these funds is truly remarkable and deserves great praise. The Foundations goes for health care, food, and other charitable purposes to the most disadvantaged in the workd and the poorest of the poor. The US should encourage the former President to aggressively continue his fundraising efforts - FROM EVERY CCOUNTRY in the world. To the Congress: Give me one good reason why this is not a good idea ...... and skip the political rhetoric and conflict of interest doo doo, which is all political doubletalk

He`s got a lot of nerve even showing his funny looking face in public, let alone the United States Senate .......
Who the hell is he to question anyones honesty or integrity, the low life adulteror. He should ask himself if he can even be an honest and trusted husband to his wife, and father to his children.
He had better have fun now , because next year he will be voted out of the senate .
The U.S. senate does not need anyone such as David Vitter soiling the preception of the rest of the hard working, and honest U.S. senators........

I think the pseudo suspicion of congress regarding Bill Clintons global initiative has been largely over played......... Bill is doing good work around the world and I guess is going to have one grand presidential library. Hillary loves this country and would not I believe knowingly accept the sec. of state position, while compromising her integrity or causing conflicts of interest. Go Hill, I'm so excited for you!! Senate, seat this woman.

Oh, come on. The Global Initiative is out there helping people in many countries. If he means that there are Palestinians contributors that might undermine our support for Israel, come out and say that. I think we give too much support to Israel already, frankly, all of which they turn into weapons to shoot civilians in Palestine. Both sides have a right to exist, and when the ratio of dead is about 200:1 in favor of Israel, we are not exactly discussing a fair fight. War is never the answer, and I felt as if her answers showed a real insight into what this country needs to focus on:PEACE!

They (Rep. Senators) should have been just as demanding on Questions prior to Iraqi Invasion. Guess that was okay since it came from their own affiliations.
