WASHINGTON (CNN) – Rudy Giuliani is remaining coy on the prospect of a 2010 run against New York Gov. David Paterson.
"It's too early," the former New York City mayor said on CNN's American Morning Tuesday. "The governor has a big job. He doesn't need a two-year election campaign. I think he should be given every opportunity to do the very best he can for the state, and then we can see about it six months from now, eight months from now."
Two months ago, in an interview on CNN, Giuliani said he wasn't ruling out a bid in 2010 for governor of the Empire State.
A poll of New York State voters conducted by Sienna College in November suggested that Paterson would top Giuliani by 6 points in a hypothetical head-to-head match up in 2010.
On Tuesday, the former Republican presidential candidate also weighed in on a major decision facing his state's Democratic governor: whom to select to replace Hillary Clinton, who will step down from her senate seat if confirmed, as expected, as secretary of state.
"The governor's gotta go on his instinct," Giuliani told CNN. "He knows what he needs in Washington. If he thinks it's Caroline Kennedy, with the group of experiences she has and contacts and relation with the president, that's fine. If he thinks it's an Andrew Cuomo (New York's attorney general) who has government experience, Washington, New York, very experienced, then he goes with him, and he is going to get tested on it very quickly. I think a lot is riding on it for him, so he will make the best judgment he can."
Whoever is appointed to fill Clinton's seat would join Paterson on the ballot in 2010.

He will never get elected. He is a tool.
dont forget your hood and robe
I think Rudy is right on this as he was in the Presidential primaries. Wait! Don't rush. Jump into the NY Governor race when the voting starts in Florida.
I think Juliani would make a great Governor and I think he would win.
RUDY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING THAN 911
RU-DY, RU-DY, RU-DY, RU-DY, RU-DY........
Rudy has no shot in NY...he knows it and we all know it too. I doubt that New Yorkers are insane to elect him and i lived in NY for 6yrs myself until recent.
I know folks like the owner of Yankees stadium will sponsor his bid inorder to squeeze NY even more from collecting taxes, but on election day, it will be a washout similarly to the loss experienced by judge Pirro.
Rudy, saying one noun, one verb and 911 is not going to save you either.
Rudy would probably need the help of those he hates to become governor. It is my hope that New York would just say, "No!" to Rudy.
The laughing clown . . . your ship sailed already.
GIULIANI DESECRATED THE LAYER'S OFFICE,
WHILE HIS CHILDREN WERE LIVING THERE, & NOW
HE WANTS TO DO THE SAME IN THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE.
I DON'T THINK SO. I WOULD RATHER VOTE FOR MCCAIN.
I agree, please go away and try on skirts, better still your cel phone is ringing, its your skirt, answer it and leave
HEY GIULIANI, YOU ARE OUT OF UNIFORM !!!!!
Giuliani will surely lose to a community organizer.
I don't know but we believe Rudy can play a good "Penguin" on a Batman movie, LOL!!
As you can see, we talk about a lot of things that's for sure, LOL!!!!
MR. 911
YOU SHOULD JOIN BUSH IN TEXAS.
He's history!
Note to Rudy from nyc from someone who voted for him over Dinkins: You make me sick.
Are his lips moving? What lips?Rudy just doesnt get it does he.Looks like another day of gestapo moderators in the morning except for the likes of TCM and his ilk who never seem to get moderated. It wouldnt suprize me if they were found to be the moderators, stirring the pot to keep sales up.
Of course, Guiliani will run. Mr. Noun-Verb-9/11 has got too big an ego not to.
he added "9/11"
A noun, a verb, and 9/11.
Come on, Giuliani, run for governor and ensure hours of drinking games for millions of New Yorkers!
Rudy did a fantastic job straightening out NYC after Beam, Dinkins and Koch turned it into a sewer. Democrats couldn't have cleaned up that mess. Thanks to Rudy, Times Square is the success that it is today. Go do the same for the state!
Mr. noun, verb, and 9/11 is still trying to stay relevant eh?
Guilani, you'll have about as much success as you did down in Florida during the primaries.
He did a good job for NYC, I 'd be happy to vote for him.
I guess its not just SP, but all republicans that are getting bashed by liberal bloggers–when will they be happy about winning the Presidency?
