Barack Obama met with Senate Democrats for the last time before next week's inauguration.

(CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama went to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to meet with Senate Democrats and make his case for how he wants to spend the second half of the $700 billion bailout.

Obama attended the weekly lunch of Democratic senators in what was his final visit to the Senate before his inauguration next week, according to the transition team. He also had been expected to push for his economic stimulus plan.

Obama has been making phone calls to senators asking for their support.

Some Republicans and Democrats said they were upset by how the Treasury Department spent the first allotment of $350 billion.

If the predominantly democratic senate won't sign your proposals, Obama, you just don't sign any of their proposals either. As simple as that. And next election, let them lose the white house to republicans by not running. Period.

First of all, it is an honor to have an African American president, like Barack Obama. I pray and hope he keep his words and do his job. I think he has chosen a great team to come along with him to the White House. With the world in need, he is going to bailout alot of people, jobs, and homes.

daniel cabrera   January 13th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

Mr Obama will continue the 'borrowing' money from taxpayers to PERPETUATE THE STEALING FROM CROOKS AND THIEVES THAT CAUSED THIS ECONOMIC MESS,...and will continues until the money reserves go totally dry.

Well, that is more to favours the ongoing path for socialism and marxism for this country, and once that is completely done,...you people who voted for Obama do not have absolutely nobody to complaint to.

But then again perhaps that is what you anted all along, no?.....THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR CAPITALIST-DEOMOCRATIC FREE MARKET WAY!

Is that is the history we want to have in the books?,...aparently that is an afirmative. Pity bloody thing!
sincerely,

The bailout will not solve our economic problems. The government should stop trying to manipulate the economy and let it reach equilibrium using supply and demand.

We really do need to rethink what it means to be 'successful'. It doesn't always mean this year's profits are 10% greater than last year's profits.

I am really getting fed up with CNN Ticker. All the comments I make are "Awaiting Moderation". I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I'm not an Obama supporter at all, but I am not rude and nasty with my comments, just not pro Obama.

Peace.....   January 13th, 2009 4:49 pm ET

Someone is very upset after coming out of that meeting. Take a look at the man face that is standing to the left of Mr. Obama in the back.

Good!

Go get them Mr. President.

Obama didn't get that American people against of this bail out. O sorry, people so stupid and hateful....

Cricket   January 13th, 2009 4:16 pm ET

Hang tough Mr. PE and make believers out of all congressmen-Dems. & GOP. I feel certain you will have the support of the vast majority of Americans. God bless you and God bless America-we'll pull together and get through this-no red or blue states-just United States.

Soon people we will see what a real POTUS will act like. 1/20/09 can't get here fast enough for me.

JT Johnson   January 13th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

So here's this know-nothing PE about to ransack the future earnings of American citizens and he could care less, as long as he gets what he wants. He has a pay-to-play rebate in mind, to give everyone who voted for him money from people who did not vote for him. We're in a big mess, thanks to the blacks who voted for him only because he is black and the college-age dummies who never have earned one dollar in their lives. They are too dumb to realize it's their future, too, that's in jeopardy.

Frank   January 13th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

President Obama should bring over as many moderate Republicans as he can with such reasonable compromises as he can make. The rest, he needs to stop worrying about.

And as for the yipping and yapping from his own party, Democrats need to sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride.

matt   January 13th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Proud American, You're seriously so naive. You have never seen Obama do one thing as far as a politician (other than be a good speaker) so how in the world do you think you know what obama would do with this money. You have no clue, sheep.

Dr. Joe   January 13th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Give Mr. Obama a chance to make a difference. It's time for all of us to get on board and support this President. We can not afford to wait, the urgent of need is now, not later. The American people are crying out for help, let's do it. That's what makes us Americans.... We care!

obama-mama   January 13th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Woooooooooooo look at my President go.

flybyshoeing   January 13th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

I think Obama will not be easily pushed around. The story up the page says he will veto a threatened disapproval resolution. He will get what he wants. When they finally figure out he is in charge they will back off of their power trips. After all, it is what is good for the country and all Americans. Even those creepy Repuplicans.

Virginia   January 13th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

What in the world do you know about the economy, the market and Barry Hussein for that matter? What do you think Barry will do with the $? You have no clue what he will do, you're just a Hussein following sheep. It's pathetic.

We should not be spending future generation's money to fix the problems current generations created. We made this bed, we should lie in it instead of stealing from our grandkids. Where is our morality?

mark   January 13th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Barry:

What about the cost for all of this? YOu sure don't have a problem spending my generation's financial future into shambles. You promised change and you are "more of the same". You are a big spender, big government, little experience.

Proud American   January 13th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

mark   January 13th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Barry:

You are creating infrastructure jobs that will not last forever...construction gigs last a few years maybe 7-9 at best...then what, back to square one unemployment???
And don't get me started on you "saving" jobs...exactly how is your Bill Clinton Cabinet calculating that one?
I mean, if you still have a job, it has NOTHING to do with you earning or deserving it...just know, the ONLY reason you are allowed to keep a job now is because Barry saved it for you. Complete joke.

Cori from Colorado   January 13th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

Obama will get the money. He needs to do something quick before we implode, and this stimulus package is a good start.

Ric in NY   January 13th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

Just great, another far left liberal who is going to spend us into oblivion. Obama is already looking like the next disaster to hit the USA. At least he doesn’t have the money to give away his big birthright entitlements and free checks to drug addicts and alcoholics. Of course, Obama and the liberals feel they are “victims” and I; the tax payer should care for them. However i dont think they are victims, i think they are friggin losers who have no sense of personal responsibility and those losers don’t deserve my hard earned money. I pray Obama is out in 4!!

Bernie   January 13th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Recovery, yes! Further attempting to bail out the corrupt banking industry is throwing good money after bad. Might as well pile it up and burn it and the printing presses, if your going to do that.

Please this time ask all bailout participants to keep these funds in a seperate interest bearing account. These institutions should be able to give an accounting of hou these funds are spent at a moments notice. Those who can't should be prepared to refund the taxpayer's money. If I can balance my checkbook monthly Chase & Citibank should have too as well. No one is asking them to lend $ to the same deadbeats who can't pay now but people who are employeed, with a good FICO should be also to get a low to buy a foreclosed home.

Allen   January 13th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

It's good to see Congress finally getting some backbone, even if it is just to show displeasure with the White House administration.
Hopefully they will take up their responsibilities to be a check and balance; responsibilities that they forgot for the last 8 years.

I'm glad that the Democrats are in charge of the reinvigorated Congress. Can you imagine the mess if Republicans were back in charge with Obama in the White House?

Bararck Obama, still just B.O.   January 13th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Same old, same old from Obama. Great words, no substance.

Here's his plan...

Use "our full arsenal of tools" to get credit flowing to consumers and businesses; (Ok, what does that mean???)
Reform the oversight of the TARP program and other responses to financial crisis; (By doing what exactly????)
Use "smart, aggressive policies" to reduce foreclosures; (What kind of policies???)
Toughen conditions for recipients of bailout money; (How???)and
Try to attract private capital and speed the end of bailout plans. (By doing what???)

Where's the beef!!!?!?!?!?

Daddy Warbucks   January 13th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Upset is being charitable. Where did it go? Are the banks sitting on it? Why are credit card interest rates so high? The questions go on and on. We need answers before shelling out any more dough to these clowns.

WHERE THE MONEY ??????????????????//

Karen- Change is coming   January 13th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

IF CONGRESS DON'T GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER, I will campaign in 2 years to get who ever up for re-election out. Congress sat on the butts and gave money to Bush w/o any preconditions, the least they could do is rally behind the new President to jump start this economy. I watched YOUR President Bush on TV last night... all I can say is so long and farewell.

TCM   January 13th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

He's so great, already, that I think we should take that money and build a memorial, right beside Lincoln's. I mean, look at it, Seinfeld was a hit, and it was a show about "nothing." Why not have a president about nothing? It worked for Seinfeld for many years. Maybe we could have one of those mult-colored, communist looking posters, that spouted "Change," or "Hope," made into a marble statue...that way liberals could visit it, and bend down and kiss his...err...feet.....

Boston Irish   January 13th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

How come he has to rally support for his plan? From what these posters are saying, he can get anything he wants without even asking for it. I'm waiting for his BIG PLAN on Israel and the Gaza mess. So far nothing from him but silence. He either has no plan at all or he's trying to think of a way to please both sides and I don't think you can.

Greg Pottstown, Pa.   January 13th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

President-elect Barack Obama went to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to meet with Senate Democrats and make his case for how he wants to spend the second half of the $700 billion bailout.

Bipartisanship lasted as long as the election. So much for change.

Roll on 2012! We are in for a tough 4 years!

A Woman In California For Obama   January 13th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

I don't know about this. People who incur debts knowingly without responsibility should NOT be bailed out. I am responsible for my own debts. No one is helping me pay off my loans. I will watch closely and see what happens with this. If this truly helps the economy great-but I seriously question that.

REDBUG   January 13th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

I meant to say Go President Obama. (drop the elect). He has done more before being sworn in then that BIG dumb bell bush did in the 8 years he has lived (off the tax payers) in the White House.

Andy J, Upstate NY   January 13th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

Obama's sales pitch:

"The federal government has already promised over 7 trillion tax dollars in order to combat the economic crisis. Let me get another trillion. I mean, come on, its only another trillion ($1,000,000,000,000) dollars."

Yeah, because when I am in debt, i go home and say to myself "Well, i'm in debt $10,000.... i guess the only way to get out is to spend another 10,000... heck, might as well just make it $50,000. Clearly, adding more debt is the way to eliminate it. Right.

BS not Maverick   January 13th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Washington better get their act together and help our new President help us or they too will be voted out. America is sick and tired of the "Party "games. It is time to do like the rest of us and do your job.

Mike, Syracuse NY   January 13th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

You don't give the keys to a pharmacy to a drug addict and then complain when he gets high. Barney Frank and the Democratic Congress appropraited the first 4350 million without setting any conditions and safeguards in place. Now they whine about how it got spent. Where was THEIR ovesight?
