Meghan McCain is defending Bristol Palin.
Meghan McCain is defending Bristol Palin.

(CNN) - Meghan McCain has drawn headlines for her unfiltered take on the presidential campaign, but there’s one topic the outspoken daughter of last year’s Republican presidential nominee won’t touch: her father’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

In an interview with the Monday Morning Clacker blog, McCain discussed her love for burlesque queen Dita Von Teese, calling her “spectacular… everything she does is genius. Her book still sits on my coffee table.”

She also said she was “inspired by Bikers For McCain and want[s] to go back to Sturgis next year and do bike week right.”

But she wouldn’t be drawn into any assessment of Arizona Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential pick. “Sarah Palin is the only part of the campaign that I won’t comment on publicly,” she said.

Last fall, the younger McCain spoke out on behalf of Palin’s then-17-year-old daughter Bristol.

"I have been on political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk,” wrote Meghan on her campaign blog, McCainBlogette. “If there is one thing I have learned, it is that it is difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician.

"It's a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can't fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family."

McCain took an active role last year in her father’s campaign.

She's going to "do bike week right" at Sturgis, eh? Doe she even realize what that means? If so, wait for the YouTube videos . . .

Franky   January 13th, 2009 8:52 pm ET

"Yes, it is so rough being the daughter and sole heiress of a millionaire…."

How ironic, I was gonna come in here and hopefully get somebody to hook me up with Meghan but since she's rich, finally a woman who meets my standards!

Write to me Meghan!! If you can express your emotions on a blog, then maybe one of these days we can hook up. Plus, I think Chelsea will be kind of hard to get, LOL!!

Steve Hendrickson you are a pig. From an old college educated white lady that voted for Obama.

Everyone has an opinion. Even when you state “Sarah Palin is the only part of the campaign that I won’t comment on publicly,” you have said something. Sometimes what you don't say verbally, says more about the choice than anything else you can do.

Yeah, and the silence speaks volumes!

How many ways can she say, Dumb, Stupid or Idiot?

Soccer Nana   January 13th, 2009 6:22 pm ET

CNN should give us a full view of the little Pillsbury Dough Girl. Those of us who have seen her knows she is "pleasantly" plump. That is the main reason why she will not verbally "dump" on anyone.

Soldier and Former Republican   January 13th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

Meghan McCain is kinda cute. How come we don't see more of her CNN?

Soldier and Former Republican   January 13th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

Palin love to complain about her news coverage, yet she has been granting interviews almost non-stop lately. I think Palin need to take a clue from Meghan and let it go. Her 15 minutes are up. The oil revenues she based her entire administration on are falling, and thus so will her popularity in her home state. Palin's time is up.

Amber   January 13th, 2009 6:08 pm ET

Can we please have a media BLACKOUT on all Palin non-news?

Independent   January 13th, 2009 6:03 pm ET

If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say nothing at all. That is the way it goes, right? LMAO!

Justwatching   January 13th, 2009 5:51 pm ET

I don't blame Meghan for not commenting on Palin. How does one justify a mistake that Daddy made? It's best to just ingore her. I wish everyone else would just follow Meghan's lead and not comment on Palin, then she can really just disappear.

And when Palin makes false accusations about the media to stay in the news...just remember "NO COMMENT"" Please let's all just let her disappear.

Baze   January 13th, 2009 5:51 pm ET

She loves bikers and Dita Von Teese... Sounds like the next candidate on Jerry Springer to me.

Ted   January 13th, 2009 5:49 pm ET

First of all, I wish that CNN would let go of the "Sarah Palin" saga. As for poor Megan, in a way I agree with her. I felt especially sorry for Cindy McCain, who thanks to her husband, had the prospect of having to socialize with the Alaskan Hillbillies. She didn't deserve that.

Mari   January 13th, 2009 5:47 pm ET

Judy   January 13th, 2009 5:45 pm ET

I wish CNN would take a cue from Meghan and STOP reporting on Sarah Palin. I voted for Obama, but this is ridiculous. Palin was clearly not qualified or ready to be VP, but the ultimate responsibility lies squarely at the feet of John McCain for selecting Palin as a purely political ploay to win an election. Thank God the America voters are smarter than McCain gave us credit for.

Andy   January 13th, 2009 5:42 pm ET

As a Democrat I fail to understand why we care what this woman says about anyone let alone Palin. She's just the daughter of a Senator, who cares what she thinks?

Besides it's far better entertainment just listening and reading about what Palin says herself. We can only wish that she wins the Republican nomination in 2012, as it would guarantee another term for Obama.

I'm 100% certain that the McCain did so badly because the average American is sick to death of stupidity, partisanship and religious extremism.

The current administration has proved to Americans that promoting an idiot to the highest office in the land is a recipe for disaster on a scale that none of us could have imagined 8 years ago. There was no way they were going to be tricked into doing it again.

Michael, Houston Texas   January 13th, 2009 5:39 pm ET

Hey Stevie nice comment, I'm suprised CNN let that slip through, oh and by the way if you are ever in Houston, this African American will let you sit in his Aston Martin or would you prefer to take a picture in my Azure. Don't worry, both are owned not leased so they will be available for viewing any day of the week.

Cinady and Megan stood there on stage and cheered Palin on and they were in agreement with her views so for Megan to comment on Palin would be commenting on herself

Sandra Day   January 13th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

To me though her silence speaks volumes!!!!!!!

I was just blogging on pajama media web site. It is sooo funny. There are people who think Joe the unlicensed plumber is a real journalist. Also, many bloggers can not stand when you tell them joe is not a journalist. they kept telling me i must be a lefty democrat. Seriously, more people who are democrats or people with common sense that joe is not a journalist should blog in at least one comment just to irritate them. Believe me, it doesn't take much to say to them to get all fired up.

Michael, Houston Texas   January 13th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

Although the thought and sight of Palin makes my skin crawl, this is messed up. Basically they are wahing their hands of Palin. McCain it's your own fault. You should have vetted this woman and/or chose someone else. McCain you knew Palin was a nutcase loose cannon, (remember the witch doctor video) but instead of sticking to your guns, you let the GOP pick you running mate and it cost you dearly. McCain I was one of the many who considered voting for you until you start believing that there were 18 million pissed off, man hating Hillary supporters who were dead set against voting for Obama. Actually there were more like maybe a few hundred thousand. So now Meghan and the rest of the McCain's are trying to distnace yourself. Too late. You will be forever scarred by you ill advised decision. Have a nice retirement McCain because I don't think you will even get re-elected as Senator based on the tone I'm hearing from some of my friends who are Repulicans living in AZ.

The American people have spoken loud and clear about this whole campaign and most importantly we've already chosen our next President OBAMA! Two ignorant people don't go very far....especially, if they are trying to run for the biggest job in America.

If Sarah Palin's parents had taught her the same thing, she wouldn't have been so inviting a target for the press.

CBC Please seek help out there. You are ranting to no one about the fact that someone else may have more than you. Grow up and stop comparing yourself to others. Life entitles you to nothing at birth other than death one day. I see no comment about Obama, Biden, Clinton, Kennedy, Kerry or anyone else being ordered to give away their millions and told to live a better life based on your own unhinged view of how things should be.

Maybe if you lived a better and more rewarding life you would not seek to rant online about things that have no effect on your life. Your comments like your logic seems to be defective. You should work on yourself and worry less about the lives of other people that have no direct effect on your life.

In plan and simple terms Grow Up!

Mel of Alexandria, Virginia   January 13th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

It is long time to move on, CNN. Let it be.

michiganruth   January 13th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

Meghan was obviously told not to say anything, and she listened to her dad, and that's as it should be. McCain I think was wrong to try and blame Palin for his loss, but he did, and it's over, and whatever.

but–SO MUCH VILE HATE on this message board for Sarah Palin! I've never seen anything quite like it, unless it's the hate for poor Joe the Plumber, whose only crime was to ask a question.

Sarah Palin is a very conservative woman. I don't agree with most of her politics, but I admire her for being what she is and not pretending to be something else (ala McCain and yes, Obama). you people who have such intense hatred for her should ask yourselves what's really behind that. I think it says more about you than it does about her.

Edith Ann   January 13th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

When Palin first got in the race she accused Hillary of whining. Whose whining now? Her making comments about Caroline Kennedy comparing her media treatment with Caroline's is down right funny. Caroline is a well educated woman that even wrote a book on the Constitution. Palin took 5 or 6 schools to get a BA and failed to teach her own child about birth control!!!! Caroline knows exactly what is expected of her in Congress. Palin didn't even know what a Vice-President does or that she is no where near qualified to be a heart beat away from the Presidency with a really old running mate. McCain was selling beer not picking a VP with his choice of her and that ignorance is why he lost. We aren't that stupid Mr. McCain even though they have cut school funding for years!!!!!!!!!!

The only idiot I see is the one who wrote the rude comment. She has done so much for us, of course you wouldn't know that since your not from here. It is an ever growing problem in this country and eventually somebody is going to get hurt. And believe this, if you believe nothing else – CNN will not only refuse to accept any responsibility for pouring gas on this fire, but they will be there with cameras rolling to capture every moment of your family's grief, shock and suffering....and then add commentary on what it all really means.

TD   January 13th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

What I just can't get past is this: It doesn't matter what you think of Palin. The simple fact is that McCain picked her and managed her (or mismanaged her). If it didn't end up good, it wasn't Palin's fault...it was McCain's fault. Does the captain not go down with the ship anymore? Sarah Palin did not do a good job as the VP candidate because she was following directions (except for the very end of the campaign)...that were coming directly from John McCain. So if she messed up, it is his fault, because she was doing what was asked of her. Megan McCain needs to deal with the fact that her dad screwed up and lost the election. If he screwed up by picking Sarah Palin, then he still is the one who screwed up. And if anything, Sarah Palin probably gave him a few million more votes than what he would have had otherwise. And you know, it isn't like Megan McCain did any help for her dad...I mean, whatever she did do, it's not like she rounded up the young voters and helped her dad win...Yo Megan, he lost. Not Palin, but HE LOST! And as for this biggoted idiot Cheryl who just posted, maybe you should stop bashing an entire population of Americans, you NAZI. Go back to Germany where you belong.

KAK   January 13th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

Everyone running for president with the exception of Sarah Palin was rich! As far as spending.... BO is getting ready to spend a ton of money! When will our "elected" officials realize that throwing money at a problem hasn't solved the problems yet! Please stop voting these people into office. The Change happening is a farce. It is going to be all of the same..... Unfortunately my family is going to suffer because a lot of foolish Americans bought into it!

This registered Republican lost all respect for McCain when he picked that vacuous, far-right, religious whackadoo cartoon character as his running mate to appease the fundie base that is destroying the GOP. Until moderates like McCain shut the anti-intellectual mouth breathers out and make them form their own party, they can continue to kiss elections goodbye. I know *I* sure as heck won't vote for Republican candidates who are in bed with the evangelicals. Which pretty much leaves me with nobody palatable.

Poor Meghan McCain, a well raised, educated, intelligent and out going young woman, she probably feels some kind of remorse for being one of Sarah Palin's avid supporters, and is quite right to stay mum on that subject.

Looks like she's learned one of life's very hard lessons where Palin is concerned – 'you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink'.

suzie   January 13th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Funny, I recall Megan McCain calling Sarah Palin "awesome!" on Larry King Live during the campaign and talking about how hip Palin is and how she's just like having a girlfriend you can talk to about anything. Seems Meggy's changed her tune now that Palin's been dissing Daddy.

The only people who, "mstreated", "exploited", and might I add, used Mrs Palin are John McCain and his campaign. That's not hate. IT'S THE TRUTH!

SM   January 13th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Had John McCain voted against the bailout and done what he said he stood for, some people would have looked past even Palin's mistakes and voted for him. He chose to side with the President instead. I feel that that was the biggest mistake he made.

Frank, Las Vegas   January 13th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

If she's honest, all she could say is that Palin is a major reason McCain lost so big. I think he still would have lost, but it would have been a much much closer contest. Palin is a joke and having McCain pick her showed some concern about his judgment. If the GOP stays with Palin in any way, the GOP will be the ones who suffer.

David   January 13th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Man that just make you wonder more. McCain never seem like he wanted to be President after the RNC pick Palin for him.

Take the hint - NO MORE PALIN!

CBC, get over yourself and learn to spell couth. Perhaps, then you can find some for yourself.

Isn't this the third Palin-related story posted here today!? C'mon CNN, you can do better for your news reporting!

shaken   January 13th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

If all of you want her to go away so badly, why don't you just STOP commenting every time CNN posts a story about her? The media needs profits (i.e. site traffic) to function. So when you go off to rant about it, you're really just perpetuating it.

I personally don't care one way or the other–Sarah Palin is irrelevant at this point, so they can put her in the news all day long but she can't really do anything. I just find it amusing that a lot of you find it necessary to vocalize your annoyance even though it's going nowhere.

Or maybe you secretly DO like these stories. Maybe CNN has figured you out all too easily...

Every single solitary thing related to Sarah Palin is posted on the Political ticker. It's seriously pathetic, you've stooped to the levels of MSNBC. What has you yahoos in Atlanta feeling so threatened? Do you think she's gonna be the one the majority of Americans rally around when they finally get tired of the Democrats exploiting the American public and spending us into endless debt?

pat C. January 13th, 2009 10:22 am ET – Sarah Palin ruined her dad??? Nice try. Boy, methinks you (and a bunch of others here) are just a little too intimidated by Sarah Palin. Probably because she is way better than anything the Dems could throw out there. And hateful lies and speeches? Even if she tried she couldn't come close to the Dems, who live on lies and throw the race card out at a moments notice.

Nice try, won't work.

Let's don't rewrite too much recent history. McCain was in the process of firing his second campaign staff and his candidacy was dead when he selected Palin. Her convention speech brought a flood of donations and enthusiasm to a bankrupt campaign and kept it alive, but no Republican was going to win after 8 years of Bush.

She includes him in official state meetings, she left the city she was mayor of in debt. With all this she still garners headlines on this and other networks. Let her float off to the silt pile of history.

A famous quote comes to mind - "the sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil" or they remain silent. For her to remain silent on this particular issue is a true disservice to the nation and the people who by no other means would remain in ignorance of Palin's true nature. She has the power to influence and what does she want to do? Go to Bike Week in Sturgeos. Good Girl. Just like Dad. A real Maverick ha?

This historic election will forever be imbedded the history books, and to know that must hurt. So I would've done the same and kept my mouth shut. Besides, hearing the name Palin is probably forbidden at home...it makes me cringe everytime I hear it.

When has McCain ever *not* supported Palin? In every interview I've ever seen, he praises her, and repeats that he stands by his decision to ask her to be his running mate.

There's lots of things I din't like about McCain, but he (personally) always publicly stood by her. The *campaign* didn't, but that is a different thing.

Palin was the only reason McCain was even in the running! McCain's weak campaign team blew it and Palin picked up whatever excitement there might have been for this 74 year old man. Let's face it, he's not the most exciting guy to stomach.
Palin, on the other hand continues to threaten liberals – hence the viscious UNFOUNDED attacks. Ever notice no one EVER has any specific reason to dislike her? Those who oppose her do so in general terms which can fit any person alive.

Why else would this even be noteworthy? Seriously, Meghan doesn't like Palin makes CNN news. Meghan doesn't like to shop at Tiffany's either, is that piece coming next week from CNN?

CNN's a joke for printing this.

Come on CNN, isn't it supposed to be news.

You are after all a news organization.

How low will you stoop for ratings.

It is indeed difficult to imagine anything about Sarah Palin being genuinely news worthy. Sarah Palin's name should only be mentioned under headings such as:

UNINFORMED, CLUELESS, POLITICAL ATTACK DOG, ETC.

Star4065   January 13th, 2009 11:23 am ET

For those who say Palin had absolutely nothing to do with McCain's loss, please, please seek help because you are in serious denial. The woman had no business being catapulted into one of the most dramatic elections without more preparation. I think if she would have been taken aside and given more preparation, she could have done better, not great because in general she was very honky and tacky, but she could have been portrayed a little better. McCain should take this as a lesson learned and his some of his supporters would do well by doing the same. Picking "Joe Six-Pack" Sarah Palin was not the right move. Now we have to see how the next four years pan out...

Why is everyone upset because CNN posts short blurbs about Palin still? Yes, Palin is OLD news, but this is the political ticker, NOT the main news area of CNN. Geesh some of those commenting need to catch up with technology. News is news, the ticker posts information that may interest some, but that doesn't qualify as "News".

As for Maghan, it's GREAT to see that McCain's child is more mature than Palins. I've always liked McCain, but Palin is the reason I could NOT vote for McCain. Talk about a dysfunctional family; the Palins are more than a bit loony.

David   January 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET

To quote a portion of the post by "Az wants new senator"...

Point:
"So Meghan … Palin was good enought to be your dad's target and take alot of heat and defend him…and now you (nor he) will publicly support her? "

Counterpoint:
" Your dad would have lost the campaing with or without Palin. I wish people would quit going on and on about Palin. "

So which should it be? Provide "public support" for someone that was only one of the many reasons McCain lost the election? Or stop being one of the many that keep "going on and on" about Palin?

She isn't going to waste her breath and justifiably so. Palin is, was, and continues to prove what an idiot she is. Just watch the ongoing circus of self-defense tirades she keeps drumming up in the media. She just won't shut up about how unfairly she believes she was "treated" by the media and elsewhere, even to the point of dragging Caroline Kennedy into the discussion.

If she thinks that this kind of damage control will help her chances at future elections, she's just as foolish as McCain for choosing her as a running mate. Two words... guaranteed failure.

Blue is my favourite colour   January 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET

Meghan McCain is not worth the time it took to put it on the ticker–why CNN, do you still insist on keeping these people active in the media? McCain is a loser, and so was Palin. Stop it with the McCain/Palin stuff.

As far as Meghan is concerned, I'd like to offer some advice: Stop trying to vindicate your dad, he has lost all honor and will go down in history as the worst candidate second only to W. The best thing you could do is join "The Biggest Loser" and take off some weight.

Quote from the article:"It's a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician.

Sarah Palin was clearly underqualified but she is not a "moran [sic]" as one of the comments stated. She simply clings to a nostalgic notion that the old American ways are best. When one looks at the core issues of health, violence, life expectancy, access to health care and the like it becomes clear that Americans need to shake things up. Quite frankly, many other countries are doing a better job of providing for their populations than the U.S.A. Their people are safer, they live longer and healthier lives, they have lower infant mortality rates and they are better educated. True patriots will want to know why that is and how America can achieve these same results. False patriots will cling to jingoistic slogans and a "Love it or Leave it" taunt.

Yousef Abed   January 13th, 2009 11:11 am ET

The day MCain picked Palin was the day that I supported Barack Obama, sorry but my vote is not going to go twords some moron with no track record and can't handle the media. Palin is back where she belongs, and she has set the war mongering Republicans with their contridicting evengelical bs back 20 years. Remember, it's not okay for a woman to give a sermon in church but it's okay for one to be one this nations leaders.

It's official, Sarah Palin Syndrome has affected the media. The cure is to quit cold turkey...so to speak.

nhflowah   January 13th, 2009 11:10 am ET

Neither the McCains nor the Palins deserve news coverage. The world is too big, too busy and there are far too many "real" stories to cover.

I wonder what the real newsmen of the 60s would say about today's "news" channels. Where has the dignity of the press gone?

Iowa Mom4   January 13th, 2009 11:10 am ET

It isn't just CNN that can't seem to let Palin go back to Alaska. Matt Lauer (Today Show) is worse.

And then there is Palin who works real hard to keep her face in the news. Last weeks interview was rediculous. If you have to explain your explanations . . . . . . .

I cannot believe the media thinks anyone cares.

b rad   January 13th, 2009 11:10 am ET

kellyb   January 13th, 2009 11:10 am ET

We shouldn't be so hard on political progeny. Meghan McCain has never run for office and didn't ask to be born into the family she was born into – and her candor is what it is. That she won't comment on Palin shows a little maturity and restraint on her part.

Art   January 13th, 2009 11:09 am ET

"...So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family." – Doesn't sound to me that there is a negative twist towards Sarah Palin. I think this is another shot at Governor Palin by people who, of course, have walked in Sarah Palins' shoes!....not....!

abna   January 13th, 2009 11:07 am ET

Use your spell check people, especially when you want to say that someone else is a moron.

Mitch   January 13th, 2009 11:07 am ET

This kind of stuff just kills me:

"Palin was NOT the problem; McCain was! Many of us wouldn;t have voted for McCain if he hadn't chosen someone conservative."

For some people, all a candidate has to do is wave a flag and then spew some junk about being pro-life and anti-gay marriage, and BAM! They have at least half of this country's support.

Give me a break.

Craven Moorehead   January 13th, 2009 11:07 am ET

Oh Man! I love the absurdity of this! Saraha Palin was the single most damaging ploy by the Republicans in decades!

But it matters naught! BUSH and his cronies, the bogus war with Iraq, and so many more things I could go into........if I had the time and inclination......Those are the reasons the Republicans have lost so much favor in this day and age.

Maybe you should "wink" at "Joe six pack" some more!

Debbie   January 13th, 2009 11:07 am ET

I supported the republican party & voted for McCain, but not because I wanted to, he ran an awful campaign,I couldn't even stand to watch the debates, but he lost it on his own , he didn't need any help.I commend Sarah Palin for putting herself out there and her family, and then to be turned on by her own party. That was sickening.Give it a rest. She's been pounded enough.

Anonymous   January 13th, 2009 11:06 am ET

Why would one want to do a Sturgis bike rally when it is loaded with racist and bigots. Meghan McCain should use the youtube sight to maybe relook her love for that kind of Bike rally. I am sure it sells alot of Mom"s favorite beer but thats it....

Palin is yesterday's news. I don't care to hear anything of her, unless she does something good for Alaska. I'm hoping she has no aspiration for national politics. She really has nothing to offer. Romney will make a comeback, and he will not select Palin as a running mate. Smart man.

Dave   January 13th, 2009 11:04 am ET

This is utterly below the qualification of 'news worthy' by any stretch of the imagination.

Sarah Palin is not qualified to flip burgers, let alone raise children or be in any position of authority. She insists on abstinence only education when it obviously didn't work in her own family. She has the competence and maturity of a mean high school cheerleader and will never mature into an adult. McCain's pick of her as a VP candidate was abusive, sexist, and cynical. Any woman who is paying attention should repay the entire Republican Party by never voting for them again for such an affront against women everywhere. Do they think we're that stupid?

Answer: Yes they do, and they're at least 40% correct, apparently.

The root of the problem was not McCain, but what the Lee Atwater/Karl Rove style of winning in America on right wing bigotry turned McCain into. He was not the same person from July to November 2008 as he has been prior to that, and from his concession speech on. It is my hope that these harmful people never succeed with another Manchurian Candidate like the sitting President again. Never again, Never again.

SAD SAD   January 13th, 2009 11:04 am ET

johnny   January 13th, 2009 11:04 am ET

It's bad enough that anything Sarah Palin says is considered news. Now, it is also news when other people are talking about NOT talking about her? What is this desperation to keep Sarah Palin's name on everyone's lips? I thought it was Sarah just trying to satisfy her own insatiable need for attention, and I believe that's a huge part of it, but something else is going on here too. Why on earth is anyone still interested?

What's left to say? Sometimes no answer IS your answer.

Kay   January 13th, 2009 10:59 am ET

John McCain and the Republican party's failure to actually come to the election party is what lost the election. I voted for McCain, but only because he was the only choice, not because he was a good choice. Run the old man against a vibrant young orator, and what do you expect. McCain left everything the conservative party was looking for, and many conservatives just did not vote, and those on the fence voted for Obama because they wanted change. I guess now we will see just what changes will be in store for all of us, liberal and conservative.

Independent Fred   January 13th, 2009 10:59 am ET

President's & Vice Presidents are expected to have a certain level of inteligence ,integrity, knowledge of the world & Judgement. Sarah Palin had none of the above and the american people saw right through it.

There were plenty of qualified GOP ladies to choose from like Olympia Snowe for example. This point often gets lost in this discussion.

Sarah Palin was a stunt that backfired end of story...

Frank   January 13th, 2009 10:59 am ET

Wow, its not often that a person gets beaten up this badly for refusing to say something bad about another human being.

Sarah Palin is likely to be one of those problems that solves itself. Her behavior since the election tells us everything that we need to know about her and is quickly answering the question about whether she has a future in national politics (answering it in the negative).

Kids of the rich and famous already have the odds stacked against them when it comes to making something of themselves and leading a happy life. I'm as liberal a person as there is, but I have no ill-will toward Meghan McCain. She has probably been poisoned over the years by her father's right-wing rhetoric, but that wasn't her doing.

You know, there were plenty of bikers for Obama too...insulting a certain group of people, insinuating that they're too "dumb" to vote for anyone else is why this country is in the state that its been. Bush has done a good job running us into the ground, but we as a people, have embraced hate, disdain, and stereotypes.

Get off your computer chairs, who cares about Palin? She's not our president, McCain's daughter isn't deciding how long we fight in Iraq... get up, leave, and go help someone in need. Instead of fighting about everything and anything on the internet, go out and MAKE our country a better place. Bush is not the only reason we repulse the rest of the world. We've become a bunch of fat jerks, who can walk past an alleyway where a woman is screaming for help as she's being raped and do nothing, we can watch a hit and run and not help the man hit, but if there's an opportunity to fight over whether or not McCain's daughter is going to trash-talk Palin, everyone's right here putting their two cents in.

Its depressing and Obama's not going to change it by himself. We need to change ourselves.

Empty people voted for an empty suit   January 13th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Love her, think she is smart and beautiful with a bright future, but I don't care what she thinks, as we should be checking out Obambi going back on all of his campaign promises and he is making some scary picks for his cabinet (a SOCIALIST just the other day or did you al miss that?), Eric "let em' go" Holder, Bill "who vetted ME" Richardson, Panetta etc, etc).

This is just another shameless way for CNN to somehow bash Palin, but before you geniuses do so, remember the following in your little lives:

NONE of you will EVER be picked to be in a beautty pageant, let alone finish second

NONE of you wil EVER be an anchor on your local news, you only appear on the news for being sheep spouting "Hope and Change"….

NONE of you will EVER be elected Mayor

NONE of you will EVER be elected Governor, let along be voted the most POPULAR Governor in the country

NONE of you wil EVER be thought of as a VP pick, EVER

Palin bashing by the little minds begins in 1,2, 3

McCain would have lost with or without Palin. She did help him get more votes than he otherwise would not. I voted McCain/Palin because of Palin, otherwise I would have stayed home on election day. I cannot think of any other person that would have helped him more. Stop with the sour grapes and leave Palin alone. I had to do that when Obama won the election.

Why on Earth would anyone care what Meghan McCain has to say about anything. I don't remember her making a contribution to his campaign by giving speeches or seriously campaigning for him. I think she's a bit of an airhead and everyone should just consider the
source.

Hey, CBC, Obama plans to live the next four, possibly eight years in the White House, is he donating his house in Chicago to a needy family to live in? Since his mother-in-law is going to live rent free with him, is she giving up her house to a needy family.? I sincerely hope she is taxed on the value of her living with Obama & family. If they are planning on having her as a live-in babysitter, that's taxable to them too.

The Republican Party is going to have to give up on their penchant for promoting people lacking in education and intelligence just because they think the ordinary American relates to these types.

The evangelicals would support anyone who they think will promote their ideology regardless of how inept or naive they happen to be as was witnessed with Joe the plumber and Sara Palin.

Time for the GOP to regroup and understand people just aren't as stupid as they seem to think they are inclined to be when it comes to a political candidate.

Noah   January 13th, 2009 10:47 am ET

So many hateful Liberals on CNN's forums. This is like a breeding ground for hate, and yet that is exactly what you accuse the Republicans of. For one thing, if any of you actually followed politics and understood the relationships of politicians you would realize that this kind of thing is not unique. Look at how strained John Kerry and John Edwards' relationship became after their failed Presidential bid in 2004. They hated each other. So for all of you good little Liberals who think this is somehow a reflection on Palin, McCain, or Republicans in general, you are only kidding your simple-minded, hateful selves.

Iris   January 13th, 2009 10:47 am ET

Teresa in Austin   January 13th, 2009 10:46 am ET

I agree with Dave in Sterling – get over the Palin obsession CNN. Had McCain not chosen Palin, he would have lost way before he did. Palin resurrected his campaign for a short while, clearly not enough. Is it really earth shattering that McCain's 19 or 20 yr old daughter has an opinion or doesn't have an opinion on this matter? At least she was raised to know when to keep her mouth shut.

You know what would be newsworthy? If you actually had unbiased commentary and coverage on how the Republican party will work on reworking its messaging. However, that would require you to realize that Republicans are not vile, disgusting beings from another planet – just simple American citizens who have a different opinion....

she probably asked him "what the he!! were you thinking?" if you were looking for a woman as a running mate that was not it. that was a pitbull in lipstick (palin's words, not mine). Dad there were a lot of women wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more qualified then palin the stupid pitbull. LOL

ava-GA   January 13th, 2009 10:41 am ET

Good for you Meghan.

Jan Davis   January 13th, 2009 10:41 am ET

Guess the truth finally found it's way into her head. However, I remember during the campaign she talked openly about how much she just loved Sarah Palin.

The whole Sarah Palin thing is one of the sillest in American history. She is and never will be qualified to be any more than what she already is, the Governor of Alaska, where intellect and ethis don't seem to matter. The Republican Party better wise up and move as far away from this woman and her family as possible!

Love the big ones.   January 13th, 2009 10:41 am ET

Meghan McCain = BBW

Sarah Palin is the poster child for stupidity. Meghan does not have to say anything Sarah words say it all. I really feel sad for Sarah. Her college education is that of a high school sophomore. Poor Sarah, if she would stop giving interviews perhaps her name could be laid to rest.

Well here, I'll do it for you, s. palin was the biggest farce ever foisted off on the American people. She should return to alaska and stay there, if those idiots up there want her for their governor, they deserve each other.

What a total waste of space. Your father lost all the respect I once had for him during that campaign – you're not doing anything to help.

tess   January 13th, 2009 10:37 am ET

this only goes to show why mccain lost -he is basically a mean and angry man whom americans saw through and rejected – now he has to find someone to blame but he should look in the mirror! as an ardent republican i had to hold my nose to vote for him! why doesn't his family just be quiet and quit trying to find excuses for his loss – it was his being at the top of the ticket that lost the election – period!

philosopherkingtomas   January 13th, 2009 10:37 am ET

I am getting tired of the back and forth between the media and sarah Palin! Wish the media would stop covering her and that she would just stay in Alaska and concentrate on being governor. Sarah Palin, PLEASE go away! You and your party lost in a democratic election (the people did not choose you). support the winner and let's move on! Enough is enough!

Larry C. in Houston TX   January 13th, 2009 10:33 am ET

she probably knows that she didn't get "vetted" by her father, or anyone on his committee, and at the same time, her dad wanted someone like a "woman" to be the V.P. trying to get the "Hillary" Votes.....So, this being said, Meghan probably doesn't want to say anything, because she has nothing GOOD to say....If the truth be known, she probably thinks the same thing as most people think of the "Palin" thing......(Palin is worthless)

I couldn't agree with Dave n Sterling more. Even on Wisconsin Public Radio I had to hear about Palin. When the supposed number one news source in the world keeps feeding us gossip and hyperbole on people like Palin and Joe the Plumber I couldn't be more saddened. This is why the BBC and other over seas news medias are so much more enjoyable to read. They report the more important information. Cudos CNN for being a step away from People.

Mickie   January 13th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Why do we care what she has to say? Have you bothered to ask Sasha what she thinks of Biden? Why does McCain's family's opinion matter on the campaign – how about on his philandering while married or desserting his former wife and children or lying. I don't blame her for not throwing darts at Palin just because Palin is stupid.

We have the pic of Palin just last week I thought she left the clothes in the belly of the plane those are not my property that is what Palin said I guess she lied again

I applaud Meghan for not saying anything about Palin and keeping it private, some things are sacred and should not be talked about. The press could learn something from Meghan, but they won't. All the press wants is the next story headline so they can trash someone. God Bless you Meghan, and your family and the Palin's.

Palin, she has very little with fed politics and does not affect how this country runs at this point. Mr. Obama is our top public servant and holds us in his hands. Internet generation better pull up your pants and get ready, hard times are coming. I don't believe that any of us minus the WW2 generation can really know where we might be headed. Question is, are we strong enough as individuals, states, and a government to withstand this time? I am are you?

Now she’s got no dog in a fight and she can be objective.

Still can't find enough dirt on Sarah Palin. Well keep looking.

AZ wants new senator   January 13th, 2009 10:21 am ET

So Meghan ... Palin was good enought to be your dad's target and take alot of heat and defend him...and now you (nor he) will publicly support her? I'm not the biggest Palin fan either, but come on. When your dad didn't support her was the day I took off the bumper sticker from my car. Sorry, girl, but there are many who want a new senator next time and NOT your dad.

I'm not a big Palin fan, but I am a big fan of supporting someone who goes out of their way to help and support me, and your dad did not support her when things got tough.

Your dad would have lost the campaing with or without Palin. I wish people would quit going on and on about Palin. It's old - like McCain's politics.

CNN's obsession with Palin has reached a level of absurdity that I never thought possible.

More than two months after the election you report that the daughter of the losing presidential candidate didn't have anything to say about the losing VP candidate?

Really?

Is there anyone on earth who considers this news?!?

ddjjyy   January 13th, 2009 10:19 am ET

katiec   January 13th, 2009 10:18 am ET

She, no doubt, is like the rest of us, sick and tired of the headlines the media continues to give Palin.
We all want her to go away, but she appears to be the media's "darlin".
They keep shoving her down our throats.

lovable liberal   January 13th, 2009 10:17 am ET

... and we all get to imagine what this no comment means. What I imagine: nothing.

Mr. Jonathan   January 13th, 2009 10:17 am ET

When someone is asked what they think about a person, and they dont wish to give an answer, it is usually not a good thing for the person in question. Here in america we are taught that if you dont have anything nice to say about a person...well you know the rest.
I call them like I see them. And I see this one as a "Sarah Palin isn't one of my favorite people" situations. I dont blame her, honestly.
Although Palin may have a very tight clan of followers who idolize her, many more still think that she hindered McCain's campaign with her rogue attitude and spotlight stealing tendencies. Many intelectual republicans who are adept at politics today, and the changes this country is facing saw Palin as a roadblock for the GOP. This opinion continues today as many ask "what if," regarding McCain's choices for VP. Although it is too late for the GOP to take the while house, many will not forget the mistakes on the campaign trail. And many will look to the picking of Sarah Palin, and how her presence on the ticket gave false confidence to many. As well as ineptitude, and irrelevance to many who would have picked a more seasoned, knowledgable, and experienced running mate. Possibly including McCain if he'd had his druthers.

jfs Memhis, Tn   January 13th, 2009 10:17 am ET

GOOD FOR HER !!! As the old saying goes......."if you can't say something nice about someone; don't say anything at all"...... She's smart to do, Palin has managed to destroy her own credibilty everytime she opens her mouth. Most Republicans are setting back and hoping Palin and Joe the plummer will just go away. The nightmare will soon be over and the true cream of the Party will rise to the top once again.

liz   January 13th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Wow   January 13th, 2009 10:16 am ET

"In an interview with the Monday Morning Clacker blog, McCain discussed her love for burlesque queen Dita Von Teese"

"She also said she was 'inspired by Bikers For McCain and want[s] to go back to Sturgis next year and do bike week right.”'

Sounds like a skank.

Pog Mahon   January 13th, 2009 10:16 am ET

That she won't say something publicly about her father's pick – Palin – says a lot. She has become a legacy that could haunt McCain (and us) for quite some time. But only if the Republican base continues on their backward path toward de-evolution while proping her up as a legitamate right wing celebrity ......... along with the "clown-plumber".

I am not a Palin fan but its past time to move on. Can we cover today's real news please?

Cindy Ferraro   January 13th, 2009 10:14 am ET

Thank God someone from the McCain side has some sense. Palin can be the Govenor of Alaska as the population is small and they need nothing more than her. Palin's education is lacking and common sense is non existent. WOMEN, the nation over are insulted by her arrogance and what is worse, her ignorance. Instead of saying, "I don't know," which by the way is appropriate and a respected response, Palin makes things up and "dances" around issues she has no knowledge of at all. John McCain is a decent and very dedicated man. I am sad that the GOP forced Palin on him. He was out of his rhetoric to have been dictated to by them. On his own I feel certain he would have selected a suitable running mate. He has weakened his own credibility. He could have chosen differently.
On another note – I want a brilliant person to run my country – Palin does not and cannot meet that requirement.
PLEASE TELL HER TO GO AWAY.

Perhaps she also has a fondness for puppies and likes ice cream. CNN had better get a staff on that angle so it has something to report later in the week.

She realized a long time ago how uneducated Palin was and Megan is a very well educated, liberal women from Columbia University. Same school Obama graduated from with a Magnum Cum Laudi degree in Foreign Affairs and Finnance!

mickey lane   January 13th, 2009 9:59 am ET

Good for you, Meghan! No matter what you say/write re Gov. Palin the media would find a way of turning it into a scandal. By the way for the first time everyone in my family voted Rep. We trusted/trust Sen. McCain. His decisions are important to us. There are very few men of honor left in this country HE IS ONE OF THOSE FEW! His choice of Sarah Palin was good. Our country needed someone like her to be our VP. We are the worse off now. It is my belief that this election, unlike the 2000 which was stolen, was bought and paid for by all sorts of ugly money. The media which is supposed to help us make informed decions without any biased sold themselves to the highest bidder. Or was it payback because Sarah Palin put them on notice that Sen. McCain & her were going to put country first .

Lisa V   January 13th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Even though I’m a Democrat, I wish we would have seen more of this gal during the campaign. She seems to be a free thinker, and she probably could have gone far in nipping away at the image of Republican = old and stuffy. However, I do think her silence speaks volumes. I think she is following the adage that if you do not have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say anything.

Robin   January 13th, 2009 9:58 am ET

I think Senator and Cindy McCain have done a great job with their kids.

Good thinking   January 13th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Pretty girl, sounds like she is already a politician. If you can't say something nice about someone don't say anything.

Rachel   January 13th, 2009 9:58 am ET

I think even she got the drift that Palin knew nothing. I don't know why she just didn't come out and say it unless it's a case of burning bridges.

Nelson Colorado Springs Co.   January 13th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Meghan McCain did the right thing, like they always say "if you can't say something or anything good about a person don't say nothing"

Ursula   January 13th, 2009 9:56 am ET

C'mon Meghan.... you can say it.... ok I'll say it for you....
Palin? What a bozo!

Kayla   January 13th, 2009 9:55 am ET

Who cares what golden girl born with a golden spoon has to say anyway?

Clint, Wa.   January 13th, 2009 9:54 am ET

Can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all. :-)

Al   January 13th, 2009 9:54 am ET

Can't wait to hear all the hate-filled comments from the left-wingers on this one.

Mary elizabeth Williams   January 13th, 2009 9:54 am ET

Ms. McCain has the right idea. Let's everybody go silent on Ms. Palin.

Florida John   January 13th, 2009 9:54 am ET

And this is news WHY?????

Joel   January 13th, 2009 9:54 am ET

Defending this moronic woman is exactly why the Republican party is on its way out. I suppose the non-partisan experts are correct in saying that we are witnessing self destruction of the Republican party due to their lack of understanding about where the country is headed, and how we need to keep extreme religious values out of government. And considering that this is their parties main focus point, they are on the way out. Ignorance is sometimes not blissful.

Are you kidding me?   January 13th, 2009 9:53 am ET

She probably realized that these people are just a bunch high school drop out loons. Babby-daddy has no job and Palin continues to blame the media for her inefficiencies.

E POP   January 13th, 2009 9:53 am ET

Matter of fact, the smartest one out of the whole McCain group. Maybe she should run for president one day.

believe   January 13th, 2009 9:52 am ET

palin cost your dad the election, not much left to say.

shughes7@hotmail.com   January 13th, 2009 9:52 am ET

Oh how I wish the rest of the world and the media would follow her lead.

puleasee   January 13th, 2009 9:52 am ET

That is telling.

dallas female   January 13th, 2009 9:51 am ET

So??

E POP   January 13th, 2009 9:51 am ET

Smart girl.

donna   January 13th, 2009 9:51 am ET

She's probably just as tired of talking abt Palin as the rest of us are tired of hearing about Palin..good for Megan!!!!!!!

Terry   January 13th, 2009 9:51 am ET

They must have told her, "If you can not say something nice about a person, keep your mouth shut". She spoke nicely about everyone else!

Andy J, Upstate NY   January 13th, 2009 9:51 am ET

oh, are you disappointed that she won't spew venom like so many liberal progressive are more than willing to do?

i can only imagine what this blog will look like by the end of the day... especially with all those tolerant liberal obamaphiles who seem to spend every minute of their day on CNN.com, waiting to gobble the garbage spoon fed to them.

ads   January 13th, 2009 9:50 am ET

Why Not????

ohio man   January 13th, 2009 9:50 am ET

Yea .. I'm still speechless also as to why he picked her and then the things she said out her mouth ..a whole lot of bark but no bite was Palin.. a nice looking Book but nothinig on the pages ,but... THE END

Slicer   January 13th, 2009 9:50 am ET

Telling, isn't it?

carylsfoster   January 13th, 2009 9:49 am ET

As her parents likely wisely taught her....when you having nothing good to say about someone, say nothing at all.

Dave F   January 13th, 2009 9:49 am ET

Apparently she learned that if you don't have anything nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all. There is nothing nice to say about Sarah Palin except that she is good for a lot of laughs.

Dave   January 13th, 2009 9:49 am ET

I can't imagine what that is. Oh YES I CAN.

I know... she isn't the devil, but we disagree on the meaning of everything, including the meaing of the words patriotism, country and truth.

Kris D, Toronto   January 13th, 2009 9:49 am ET

“Sarah Palin is the only part of the campaign that I won’t comment on publicly,” she said.

I think she's following the rule that if you don't something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

gary n.   January 13th, 2009 9:48 am ET

Her silence on this says it all. She knows Palin is a loser.

ETTA   January 13th, 2009 9:48 am ET

She is right to keep quiet, there is nothing to talk about. It is over.

Give it a rest!   January 13th, 2009 9:48 am ET

Oh great, now we get to discuss Sarah Palin on here because McCain's daughter chose not to talk about her in an interview. [rolling eyes]

Accountability   January 13th, 2009 9:47 am ET

At least one of the McCains has some sense....

Ben in MD   January 13th, 2009 9:47 am ET

Poor Meghan. Not even she's blunt enough to speak about how poor of a choice Palin was.

Come again!   January 13th, 2009 9:47 am ET

Who cares....they are all irrelevant!!

carlo   January 13th, 2009 9:46 am ET

I don't blame her. Palin basically killed ANY chances McCain had of winning.

No More Palin   January 13th, 2009 9:46 am ET

All the lies, Palin has told who wouldn't keep "mum"? Sarah really needs to go way and stay away!

Ben in San Diego   January 13th, 2009 9:46 am ET

If you can't say anything nice....

PJP   January 13th, 2009 9:44 am ET

Very wise young lady! Her daddy has taught her well.

obama-mama   January 13th, 2009 9:43 am ET

Her lack of comment says a lot....She knew Palin was a twit.....

Steven NY   January 13th, 2009 9:43 am ET

I guess it would be hard to quote explicatives on cnn.

NiceGirl   January 13th, 2009 9:43 am ET

I will say if for you Meghan.....SARAH ON THE TICKET WAS A BIG MISTAKE!!

Mike   January 13th, 2009 9:43 am ET

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the Republicans future VP candidate!!

HAHAHAHA!!!

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   January 13th, 2009 9:41 am ET
