WASHINGTON (CNN) - Quickly after the moment of Obama's swearing-in, the president's top aides bolted to get to waiting vans and race to the White House. White House counsel Greg Craig and deputy chief of staff Jim Messina left before the inaugural address ended, although White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel stayed through whole speech.

John Podesta told CNN he bolted in 1993 during former President Clinton's inaugural speech - and when he got to the White House, the old drapes were still being taken down.
