WASHINGTON (CNN) - Promising "a new era of openness in our country," President Barack Obama signed several executive orders Wednesday relating to ethics guidelines for staff members of his administration.

"Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency," Obama said.

Among other things, Obama said he would issue a pay freeze for his senior staff.

BEFORE HE CAN TALK ABOUT TRANSPARENCY IN HIS OFFICE HE NEEDS TO LOOK AT HIS OWN PICK FOR TREASURY SECRETARY NOT PAYING HIS TAXES.

Pay freeze? Wait a minute......the neo cons told me Obama was a pay to play Chicago politician who going put his cronies in high level positions and milk the country for all it's worth. Please don't tell me that he is going to put a pay freeze on his senior staff. That goes against the all knowing neo cons that he would spend, spend, spend! And they listen to talk radio so you know they're smart..... =)

Whatever anyone thinks about Obama – he isn't GW – and that is a gigantic step in the right direction for this country.
The Bush administraton kept more secret going's on than any other adminstration – mm how many times did they jump up and say "ooh executive privlege" – so much for "transparency" eh?

  9. You're kidding, right???

Where's the transparency regarding his chief of staff? Or his treasury secretary pick? Or his own dealings with the Illinois political machine? New name, same lies.,

This from a guy that opened sealed transcripts of his opponents divorce decrees in order to get them out of his way. Wow – what a hypocrit.

This man personifies Chicago politics at its best – just look at the difficulties he has had in seating his cabinet to date, and this is only the start of the slow motion car wreck.

this is a good start. In my company all seinor executives are taking a 20% pay cut in order to preserve jobs. Perhaps a roll back would be more in order. Also, how about a wage and pension freeze for all government employees.

    They all say this.
As with the others, we would need to read what the orders say, and how they are execute. Then we can comment.

Refreshing, to have someone in charge who has my best interest at heart.

Hero's tend to appear when they are most needed, and we really need some now. I firmly believe that we have a team of hero's-in-the-making at the White House.

And a special thanks to the Secret Service - well done. What a nightmare that must have been for them.

Um yeah...that's already been discussed. So move on...

Seriously you are going to dery a man for trying to bring openness and ethics to government after one of the least ethical administrations in the history of this country. After a man left office with a 22% approval rating? Only slightly above a criminal in Richard Nixon?

    Wow get over yourself.

MIKE -–THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE IS AUTHENTIC. STOP SINGING THAT SAME OLD TIRED SONG. PRESIDENT OBAMA WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SWORN IN IF IT WASN'T. THE REPUBLICANS WOULD HAVE MADE SURE OF THAT.

It's easy to be "open" and "transparent" when the press (who loves and adores you) refuses to ask any real and/or tough questions.

It's easy to be "open" and "transparent" when the news media refuses to ask any tough questions and lets you slide by on everything.
