Cindy McCain won’t be 'Dancing with the Stars'

The McCains decided against Mrs. McCain participating in Dancing with the Stars.
The McCains decided against Mrs. McCain participating in Dancing with the Stars.

(CNN) - It’s official: John McCain is edging his way back onto the national stage — but his wife Cindy has opted to avoid the spotlight. Literally.

Speaking on CNN's Larry King Live Thursday, Sen. John McCain confirmed reports his wife had weighed the possibility of appearing on the hit TV show 'Dancing with the Stars.'

Those reports said Mrs. McCain was in talks with the show's producers late last year, and was close to being a contestant during the upcoming season.

The former Republican presidential candidate told King Thursday both McCains talked the opportunity over and decided against it. "Well, we discussed it, but we decided it just was not a good idea," McCain said. "You know, Cindy's on her second knee. She's had it replaced."

"It would have been very challenging," McCain continued. "But I'm proud of her work and charity around the world, Operation Smile, a number of other organizations - humanitarian efforts that she's involved in and is continuing to be involved in."

Mrs. McCain isn't the first politically-connected individual to be invited to appear on the show: Former vice presidential candidate Dan Quayle reportedly turned down a similar offer last year.

Pat J: The absurdity of your comment is related to Cindy being stylish .

It is appalling for anyone to spend the kind of money she does on clothing. If you want to call her stylish, no problem. Those clothes don't soften her face. She's stiff looking and snobbish!

Jo, I've seen you and if I were you I wouldn't throw stones.

Michelle is a beautiful woman! But someone like you can't see beyond the color of her skin!

    AWWW, Griff

That is so sweet. Now, to the point. I am glad Cindy didn't decide to go on "Dancing with the Stars" because it seems inappropriate for the wife of a US Senator to do so.
To the comment that Cindy McCain has style, which cannot be bought, you are sooo wrong. She has bought her style with the big bucks she has. If you consider her cold, brittle look and painted -on smile coulpled with outrageously expensive clothing over her anorexic body stylish, that's up to you. Michelle's clothes were not bought by campaign contributions...you have her confused with the "Barracuda"

  7. Wow!

Amazing how hateful all of you are. Hate is not the new hope. Take a cue from the new president - he supports unity, not hatred toward people. It's clear you all learned nothing from him or this election - deliberately misquoting cindy's statements and characterizing her according to journalist's smear jobs.

To Kathleen: You're clearly ignorant if you don't know of any of Cindy's philanthropic work. She's donated millions to help starving children, the Halo Trust to dismantle and remove land mines and help those victims, provide free medical care to people who could not afford it, and to pay for surgeries for children born with cleft palates, her adopted daughter being one of them. What exactly have you done lately?

"Former vice presidential candidate Dan Quayle......"

Correction is in order. Dan Quayle was a former vice president. should not be referred to as former vp candidate in this context...

Hey "Pat J" - unfortunately the McCain's come as a couple – where there is Cindy, there is John - whose soul mate was Palin (according to John himself). I don't believe he treated Cindy her like much of a lady then, did he?

Women all have differences that make each one a unique lady. Why not compare yourself to Cindy McCain. Now who's more of a lady?

Hey "Pat J" — unfortunately the McCain's come as a couple – where there is Cindy, there is John — whose soul mate was Palin (according to John himself). He didn't treated Cindy much like a lady in stating that publicly about another married woman.

Women all have differences that make each one a unique lady. Why not compare yourself to Cindy McCain and judge who is "more of a lady?" Your comment was rather simple minded.

I don't want to call her old, but Im sorry she's very old. I can see the first couple doing dancing with the stars, but their youthful and inspirational. Sorry, just the way I feel.
