NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) – After a call for "bold and swift" action on the economy in his first moments as president on Tuesday, President Barack Obama got right to work, maneuvering to reach a bipartisan agreement on his sweeping economic recovery plan.

On Friday, Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met with Democratic and Republican congressional leadership to discuss his stimulus proposal, trying to sell both sides on a plan that includes both tax cuts and massive spending efforts.

The president offered more detail on his plan to restore economic growth. He said he'd take a three-pronged approach to recovery: stabilize the financial system, fix market regulation and pass the stimulus plan.

Where are we going with all of this President Obama? Now, your news cronies are reporting that some 'nutcase' economic advisor wants you to be sure and spend the appropriate amount of stimulus money on 'blacks'! Yipes! Whatever is going on here? This sounds very racist to most anyone who understands race.

I am elated after President Obama's first 48 hours in office. He has done more during that time than the Worst One did in 8 years.

Yes, PBO wants to change America! He is a pro-choice universalist who learned community organizing from Saul Alinsky, religion from Jeremiah Wright and who replaces a moral code with pragmatism and political expediency!

PBO is not in touch with America at all! :(

re: the bailout: Let's talk about John Thain, the "wunderboy" who was supposed to "fix" Merrill Lynch.

Thain was given a $750,000 salary and a signing bonus of $15 million. His total pay package, however, sounded like a free-agent deal with the New York Yankees; it was reportedly valued between $50 million and $120 million over several years. The culture of greed is dying a hard death because even as thousands of Americans were losing their jobs, a condition largely owed to the subprime mortgage meltdown and the near-criminal folly of financiers, Thain requested that he be given a $10 million bonus.

Merrill's failed execs also got large bonuses just about the time that they went under. Your bailout money at work.

Also where your bailout money went: Thain's office remodel, which included a $31,000 TOILET and an $80,000 rug.

    Transparency is long overdue.

Some of you people need to get an edumucation!

I did not vote for Obama nor do I support his hasty decision to close GITMO nor do I believe that American Tax Dollars should pay for foreign abortion programs (unless its aborting Al Queda babies, but really, how do you know?)

That all said, the man has been president for a few days and has hundreds of decisions that he is going to need to make. He is also depending on a Congress that is willing to work with him with the country's best interests in mind rather than their parties. This is a long ride and there is no reason to judge Obama's presidency in day three!

Obama's so-called stimulus plan is a Trojan horse. It's filled with bad things for the country, things that we can't afford but that will advance the liberal agenda.

After reading some of the comments on this site about Obama trying to make an effort to reach across the isle, and still seeing people who do not seem to know what that means. I looked up a few quotes on the internet to help you guys along. Try to understand please.
"A house divided against itself cannot stand." Abraham Lincoln
" America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Abraham Lincoln
"It is not ignorance that causes all the trouble in this world. It is the things people know that is not so." Edwin Armstrong
What those quotes have in common is that if we continue to blame and criticize people that are trying to make an effort and continue to glorify ourselves to the point that you cannot appreciate nothing from someone who tries to help you, you are the one who is destroying himself. Including that you are part of the problem of America falling apart right now. Count your blessings that Obama is trying to talk with both sides to try to get things done. If you can come up with anything else that might help, please do so. If not do not say anything that you know that is not so. "Divided we fail, United we stand." Abraham Lincoln.

I think the picture tells the story. Obama, completely unprepared, surrounded by Pelosi and Reid. You know who's running the government, and it AIN'T OBAMA.

Sounds like a plan to me... better than anything Geo. Bush and his cronies came up with.... wait a minute, I forgot.... the only thing they were concerned with was lining their pockets with money at our expense.

Pffft... get out of the way, Repubs, you made the mess... you are NOT qualified to fix it! :(

    Hey Mike – January 23rd, 2009 6:51 pm ET
In the past two years, how many times the now former Prseident Bush used his 'veto' power? You know, that one that makes any attempt of the Congress to goes against the president policies to fail?
Because to make a veto be blocked and the law/legislature that goes against the president's agenda takes much more than the number f seats in the Congress (in both House and Senate) than the Dems have had in the last two years of the Bush Administration.
Just in case you are suffering of selective amnesia...

When candidates build up expectations that are unrealistic, when the media scapegoats the Commander-in-Chief and the Executive Branch of government. and turns a blindeye to the Legislative Branch with a bunch of curmugeons, naturally you got expect a few bumps in the road ahead. Maybe the "honeymoon" will be postponed until later. Sure.
