(CNN) - Sen. James Inhofe called President Barack Obama’s plan to allow 14 states to regulate their own fuel emission standards “environmental thuggery” in an interview published Monday.
Obama’s executive order seeks to reduce greenhouse gases by allowing states like California to require stricter fuel standards for cars.
The Oklahoma senator a ranking member of the Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee and a longtime global warming skeptic, told CNN Monday the proposed plan would too costly for the beleaguered auto industry. “I think you’re going to see them coming in requesting more bailouts now as a result of this,” said Inhofe.
Does this senator take idiot pills every day or is it just today?
I thought the Republican party was the champion of states' rights...it must depend on the issue.
Imhofe is still living in total denial that Global Warming exists. I don't know what planet he's on, but it's not this one. Just ask the Polar Bears!
YES Inhofe is an idiot! He takes money from big oil – I hate it that he won again this election ... but what to expect – The whole of Oklahoma is Repugs. No wonder the schools, roads and technology in Oklahoma are......well, they SUCK!
At least someone has back bone to stand up to Hussien Obama
That's a lot of unnecessary words for this idiot. EC hit it right on the button. Inhofe is nothing but a POS! And he knows it. He can't help it. He can't hide from his own stench. This is his station in life.
Dumas McGee asked:
where is most of the food in this country produced?
In case this was not a rhetorical question, according to the USDA, the state ranked highest in market value of agricultural products sold? California. That would be on the west coast, I believe.
Wasn't there a time where the Republicans were in favor of less regulation from D.C. and putting power back in the hands of the states? Oh...not in this case?
Are all you people so ignorant that you can't see the Forest full of trees?
I'm am tired of mismanagement and then whining because it will put people out of work... YES its true that many will initially lose a job. Isn't that already happening though? Why can't we let companies that didn't give their crooked executives come out on top this time? If we do, then a new era of responsibility just may open up. If we keep giving money away then how is that really different thana crack addict showing up at your door saying "if you don't give me $20 for food I'll starve" and you know darn well that he is going to go spend it on more drugs...
There are alot of "green jobs" already opening up.. In my home state I have seen at least 2 new places that are making solar pannels. Both are still trying to hire more people.
I wouldn't mind giving GM and Ford money if they were going to spend it wisely. Halt rediculous pay... have pay based on performance. And since they have been under performing, they should be underpaid. Get rid of all the layers of management... This should be for all industry.
Lastly, make a product we want. Stop saying it can't be done because you are lying. In the 70's and 80's and even the early 90's there were cars on the market that got much better gas mileage than even the Hybrids... AND THEY WERE CHEAP CARS!!! They didn't cost over 40K and ran forever... over 300k miles!!!
These dinosaurs JUST DONT GET IT. Looks like another republican wants to get voted out of office next cycle. No problem, sir... happy to kick you out on your keister along with the rest of your dirty bum cronies. Obama ALL THE WAY
Let's go back to Ice Age ! LOL Globle Warming? I think it's Globle cooling! I treat it as Globle weather changing, rather than globle warming! As econcomy is going down, Globle Warming part should step back, Economy should be top thing!
Inhofe is Oklahoma's answer to Jesse Helms.......a knuckle-dragging neanderthal who hasn't figured out that he is on the verge of extinction and irrelevance. This guy is a typical dig-in-your-heels right wingnut who simply doesn't have the IQ to grasp complex issues that call for a clean break with the same old same old.
Thug is right! protect what environment? The one in which socialist, debase, liberal society reaches its pinacle of decedance? The only thing that democrats and liberals want is to save is their pocket book and right to the unnatural use of the human body. Freedom is a hard bought thing! The only opinion self-righteous, value destroying demos have is what conservative, value-loving republicans have given their lives to provide! Would the Romans cry like a bunch of little girls about war? Had we listened to demos in the past we would be speaking japanese or german right now! All of us!
there go the prices hikes in natural oil and gas again, his plan will freeze more older people in apartments for sure,
Casey | Sebastopol, CA:
I hate to bust your bubble but people in Oklahoma drive the same thing people in California drive. Oklahoma is the home of the Five Civilized Tribes, can California say that? Tulsa was the Oil Capital of the World during the Oil Boom before Houston, Texas took the title, is there a city in California that can say that?
I will not defend Inhoffe, he is an idiot but I will defend my home state and Oklahoma is not going broke like California, their economy is still growing, is yours? No, your Governor is spending your state into bankruptcy. The gas in Oklahoma is still below $2.00 a gallon, is yours? Thought so, be quiet about Oklahoma especially when your state is no better off and actually far worse.
Since when did saving the planet become thuggery?
Here's some statistics:
92% of Fruit is produced in Blue States
90% All Cheese
If you think you have so much, food, maybe that WOULD explain why 88% of obese Americans live in Red States.
"Nothing Ever Changes"
Well, our gas is below $2. in California. and we have many great things. But Oklahoma isn't any WORSE...
Republicans are all for federalism when its conveinient, but when it comes to something as serious as a state protecting their constituents and reflecting their desire to protect their enviornment, its not cool.
In general, on one side of this debate you have scientific consensus and those concerned for the enviornment and on the other you have ExxonMobil and their lobbyist political hacks known as the Republican Party. Who seems more credible?
The environment is in danger, we all know that. We have been pollutting our earth for too long and now we need to take drastic measures to try and clean up our mess. just walk outside and you will see what it has done. its winter and its 80 degrees outside. its about time we have a president that is caring about how we treat the place we live our lives in.
Logic: the article is written well.
his first and last paragraph fit because the are both dealing with the senetors opinion of Obamas proposition.(94)
The angry Republicans don't get it! THEY LOST, and this, along with the ReTHUGlican minorities recent stalling of the stimulus package for working taxpayers, show exactly why! How long we've needed CHANGE!
The obstructionist reTHUGlicans are so angry, that they've allowed their masks to slip, and are showing the world what a lying, stealing, shameless group of racists "THUGS" the grand ole' party has mainly consisted of for all of these years.
They are now foaming at the mouths because of the political a*s kicking that they deservedly got in the last two elections.
Now, in their "self righteous" indignation, they are slipping from behind their masks of civility, and showing America and the world, to see the knuckle dragging Jessie Helms reality of the "THUGS" they truly are.
Obviously, the last two elections have taught them nothing.
This can be corrected in 2012!
"Let the howls of "racism" against the Senator begin in 3 -2 -1 .. NOW"
Protesting for the like-minded "idiots", who can't acknowledge that "you people" are trotting out the same old tired rhetoric?? The "terrorists fists jab" presented to cave dwellers by "Fixed Views" didn't work the first time either!!
Two words for you, Republican tools – STATES' RIGHTS!!
Isn't that your platform (or is that only when abortion is at issue)?
