Winfrey shocked over 'Senator Oprah' news

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Monday that he considered Oprah Winfrey to replace President Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate.
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Monday that he considered Oprah Winfrey to replace President Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate.

(CNN) - Surprised to hear Illinois might have had a Senator Oprah? So was Winfrey herself.

The talk show host said Monday she’d had no clue Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich had considered tapping her for the state’s open Senate slot before he confirmed the news in a Monday morning TV interview.

Watch: Ill. governor on considering Winfrey

"If I had been watching [the ABC interview], as I watch from the treadmill, I probably would have fallen off the treadmill," Winfrey told friend Gayle King in a radio interview after hearing the news.

Blagojevich admitted Monday he once considered asking the media mogul to fill the senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama, before deciding to appoint former state attorney general Roland Burris.

“She seemed to be someone who had helped Barack Obama in a significant way to become President,” he told ABC, adding that Winfrey “had a much broader bully pulpit than a lot of senators."

The embattled governor - currently facing impeachment proceedings for allegedly plotting to sell the vacant position to the highest bidder - will take calls from viewers tonight on CNN’s Larry King Live at 9 pm ET.

Oprah, is too good for a US Senate.
Politics has become so nasty. Good people like Oprah and Caroline Kennedy would be better off staying away.
There is no rule that says politics should be so nasty and crookish. Why do people tear each other down.
Thank God Obama showed it can be done wisely not necessarily nastily.

The only shock she got was that she thought Barack was going to give her Hillary's new job, or move Michelle out. Chicago's so OVER. It's all D.C. all the time now!

Sarah Palin, Joe the (unlicensed) Plumber, Rod Blagojevich...
The media really love these lying idiots. What I'd love to know is why do anyone believe (and quite often follow) these people.

I don't mind people having their political views, but really...

At least have the common sense to follow and support someone who isn't a political moron AND a compulsive liar!

I think that Oprah would do a better job as a Senator than a number of the people currently representing their states. Such as Vetter, (LA) could name more but, I think you get the message.

Oprah opted to help the unfortunate young girls in Africa and not the black kids in America. So what makes the governor think she would make a great senator? Americans need to ask seriously where the $875 billion dollars is going and why Obama is pushing desperately pushing hard for it. Heard of global poverty? That's right share the love in the midst of an economic crisis.

Birthing Moment January 26th, 4:26 PM:

It really doesn't matter where President Obama was born–Hawaii, Kenya, or Jupiter. His MOTHER was a US-born citizen (from Kansas) and as such, he is a citizen by birth. Place of birth doesn't matter as long as one of the parents is a US-citizen.

This subject really needs to go away. I'm a Republican and I'm tired of hearing about it. Enough already.

I think Oprah has the common sense to not even consider political office. This was just a person throwing around names to make himself look like the good guy. When we express our opinions can we stop all the ugly name calling? It's not necessary to bring down someone's character to express your opinion. Oprah didn't say this, it was the governor that brought her in. Like she said, she was minding her own business. For all you Obama haters, I'm old school say it to his face.
