Jill Biden will continue to teach at a DC-area community college.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Jill Biden is back in the classroom: The veteran professor and wife of Vice President Jill Biden began a new job at a DC-area community college Tuesday.

The White House said that Mrs. Biden will teach two English courses this semester as an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College.

Biden has taught English in public schools and community colleges for nearly three decades, half of that at Delaware Technical & Community College.

So, I understand she isn't the first lady, but really? Aside from the security concerns, let's take a step back from stupid, and think of all the other things she could be doing with her charitable time, beyond teaching at the community college. The snippet doesn't say if she's drawing pay, but either way, she could be doing a college tour, she could be overseas speaking to other educators to become an advocate for improving the failed US school system... so much for high hopes.

Excellent news. I'm glad to see that Dr. Biden maintains her desire to educate the youth of today even though she is now in the public spotlight as the vice president's wife. However, the article mistakenly says that she is the wife of Vice-President Jill Biden. I guess even CNN can make a mistake. It only proves that no matter how careful we are, sometimes mistakes slip past a number of people.

The contrast between Jill Biden and Sarah Palin is remarkable – one has dedicated herself to educating working people, for 30 years, one took 6 years and 3 schools to graduate with a BA in journalism and now dedicates her efforts to promoting herself. Which one is more qualified for the highest office in our land?

Am I the only one in America that witnessed the V.P. debate?

If this woman remains a voice in the Republican party then someone must be backing up a truckload of money to someone's house. Money would be the only thing keeping her name in the news. How much has R. Murdoch invested in Palin?

Overlooked in the overwhelming historic implications of the new presidency, Jill Biden is one remarkable woman. She doesn't waste time with self-promotion, but just gets on with the job of living a productive life and giving back to the community. We have two wives of top elected people we can really respect and they can serve as two very different role models for our little girls. First Lady Obama and Dr. Biden are smart, dedicated and refreshing looking. And they both look like they eat a well rounded diet. Now we need to get VP Biden to lose a few pounds and we will have four fit, healthy people at the top.

Why do we waste so much time talking and writing about Palin. She is ttrailer trash, not news. This country has real problems and very dedicated people trying to solve them. The strutter from up north is not even a credit to her state. I hope one of those really smart, very honest and capable Alaskan women will challenge her in her next election. We down here need to know that she is not representative of the women from Alaska.

Can we for once forget about female/male jobs. Black or white jobs? This is America, and we are all really from a different country, a different race, religion, ethnic backround. My Grandparents, and Mother were born in Italy. They became US citizens and were proud to be Americans. At 70 I am proud to be an American who voted for Obama. I think his wife is SPECIAL and I think his kids are adorable and spunky.
Can we get on with the rest of our lives now? We have an extremely educated President/First Lady. An extremely educated Vice President/First Vice presidents wife.
Now what they will do in the next 4 to 8 years will determine how we all do.
I think we will do well!!!!

Pathetic. With all that experience this is the time to give back to society in a big way given her status as wife of the nations VP. Useless like her husband. Get out to schools and work with educators and make suggestions. Is English is all she knows? So what if she has a PH.D. ACT English score was broken in 2000 by an immigrant student in Sacramento community college. First in the city's history and probably the nations.

I really like Jill. She just seems ....well, nice. Not something you see too often in the belt-way.

    Big Al,

Have you ever taught college? taught anything besides your local boy-scout troop? Its not as easy as it may look and sound. With comments like yours, we apparently need as many educators as we can get.

  106. Community College Awareness

Jill Biden should be admired – both for the work she does, and the choices she's made. Community colleges are the wave of the future. They're where the real action will be, for higher education in America. And Jill Biden is an example of where forward-thinking American leaders are headed.

Well Monk, Jill Biden's position should be publicized for the simple reason of showing that community college professors have just as much educational value as those in 5 year schools.

Amazing, They must have had a job opening just in the nic-of -time. This is what we talk about, unfairness in goverment.

@Big Al, January 27th, 2009 5:19 pm ET who spluttered...

"Yawn!! Ph. D in Education. What a waste!"

    – Well, "Big" Al, I can only imagine that your level of education peaked with "smoking out behind the high school shop building". But that's OK, you're a fine representative of the typical Republican voter. Now tell me how Caribou Barbie's five-college-in-six-years for a BA in journalism is infinitely superior. You know you want to...

I think that it is awesome that a woman with such high rank is teaching at the local level. She obviosly does not need to have that job but she does anyway. That really shows something about her character and about how much she cares about or childrens education and future.

I'm so happy to hear this news. I teach psychology at Columbia State Community College in Tennessee and I am happy to see a member of the Obama Administration supporting community colleges.

I believe that the Obama education team should do more to support community colleges. Community colleges are essential to higher education in this great nation. Let's hope Obama does not forget this.

I wonder what persons job was taken from them to give priority to Jill Biden? As precious as jobs are right now you know there was not just an opening. Would the college have done this for anyone else?

Seems like once again the politicians (and spouses) are being shown favoritism!

I am a community college administrator and I have worked for twenty years in the two year public college system. We, who work in the community college system love our students and we completely understand Jill's reluctance to move to a four year institution. There is a magic in the two year college and an especially rewarding interaction with students trying to better their lives through education. You go Jill. You make us proud. Thanks for shining the light on us.

I agree we should apply the proper title before her name. It's not like it took her 5 years to otbain a certificate in journalism like som–say Palin.

Great job, Dr. Jill Biden. Keep setting a good example for future wives of VP's.

So many negative comments on this subject. One question for you folks: When was the last time a VP wife taught and more so in a community college? Oh man...give her credit will ya! she don't have to work if she does not want to. Good grief...
