Nation's chief intelligence officer resigns

Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell has resigned effective immediately.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell has resigned effective immediately, DNI spokesman Ross Feinstein said Tuesday.

Lt. Gen. Ronald Burgess, the No. 3 official in the DNI's office, will serve as acting director until a new one is confirmed, Feinstein said.

Earlier this month, President Barack Obama nominated retired Adm. Dennis Blair to be chief of intelligence.

Blair's confirmation hearing was held last week, and the Senate Intelligence Committee is expected to recommend approval as early as Wednesday, sending the nomination to the full Senate for a final vote.

McConnell had been expected to remain as DNI until Blair was in place, but the delay in Blair's confirmation prompted him to announce his resignation sooner than that.

The retired admiral will continue to advise Obama, however, having agreed to serve on the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.

The defense consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton announced Tuesday that McConnell will return to the company as a vice president. He left the firm in February 2006 to become the nation's second director of national intelligence.

The office was created in late 2004 as part of the effort to improve intelligence gathering after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States and the faulty intelligence on Iraq weapons of mass destruction.

Obama does not need a Intellingence Officer he has already shut down all intellingence gathering and said that HE would talk to people that have ill will against America and Americans and HE can protect us without any information that the Intellingence Agency might have.

    A simple equation:

    "Bush appointee" + "intelligence"= "oxymoron."

Can't wait for an objective set of eyes without an agenda of his own to be in charge again...viva Admiral Blair!

H e should NOT be allowed to resign. He should be indicted and tried along with countless other Bush appointees who have proven to be corrupt. Alas, that will not happen. In a perfect world it would..and those indictments and trials would include the ineptness himself, Bush, His corruptness and Crookedness, himself, Cheney, along with the likes of Rove, Rumsfeld and a Republican list way too long to mention in this writing. We should just be glad that Bush and most of his cronies are gone or soon to be..except for some of those last minute "specail appointments" like the one another inept Condi Rice snaggled out of Bush. I wonder what dirt she had on him to finaggle that job?

Republican or Democrat: Politicians are politicians.

I have not seen any evidence that Democrats have greater intelligence than Republicans. Both parties seem to have just as many crooked and lying politicians.

I would not rant too much against Bush's officials...after the example Clinton set...and still follows....
