(CNN) –- President Obama will take his first foreign trip as commander in chief to Canada next month, his press secretary announced Wednesday.
“Canada is a vitally important ally and the president looks forward to the opportunity to speak with Prime Minister Harper and visit our neighbor to the north,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said during Wednesday’s press briefing.
Obama will head to Canada on February 19. Gibbs did not announce any further details about the president’s itinerary.
Former President Bush took his first international trip to Mexico, but many U.S. presidents have started their terms with a visit to Canada.
The article says he's" visiting Canada" Exactly what states will he be visiting when he's there?
Watch out Canada, obama is a racist and a liar. Don't let him in. If you do, could you just keep him.
Ian, is still upset he's guy lost. Obama is making all the right decisions.
Some of us Yanks have great respect and affection for our brothers and sisters of the Great White North. I hope much good comes of President Obama's visit.
President Obama. I've enjoyed getting used to that.
Welcome Obama we heart you and your family. Please visit Toronto as well so we could extend our warm welcome!!
Yea Obama. Gonna go up north and tell the Canadians that NAFTA stands as is.
Change We Can Believe In (in Canada, that means "I ain't gonna do a thing.").
Of all the places – Canada??? What is Brewing there?? Well it is very good place and all BUT we have fires burning in Middle East and South East Asia ....
Did you forget the Mumbai attacks by the Rogue Pakistan State??? Can you be more FORCEFUL on these AS^%$HOL%$#% ... I hate our MORON Bush who pumped BILLIONS to them and suddenly there are so many accounts in Pakistan which are receiving money in the name of anti-terrorism and there AGAIN we are helping China because these funds are the ones with which the Rockets and Grenades are bought from China....
Do something aggressive Obama – we have high expectations from you
Let’s trade Ian to the US for a player to be named later. Or a bag of turd, I think we’d get the better deal. I wonder if Ian is Ian Robinson, that no talent hack who writes for the Sun?
The Socialist State of Canada will LOVE Obama.
We need Canucks like we need a boil on our butt.
You are welcome Obama. We can't wait to see you.You are proving to become a great President.
Given how tightly the economies of Canada and the U.S. are linked, this makes good sense. I am one of the 70% or so of Americans who continue to be quite impressed with Obama and grateful that we finally have a real leader in the White House.
Hey Canada, keep him there! Oh, and don't tell him how your nationalized health care is doing, he wouldn't believe you anyway!
That's awesome Canada loves Obama don't listen to Ian he's in the minority. Please teach Harper what a real leader looks like!
I'm excited to see how our fellow North Americans are going to respond to our new President, I bet he's received warmly. :)

In Canada nobody goes bankrupt because they got sick; nobody looses their house because they got sick.
The only reason you get faster medical service in the US is because 47 millions can’t afford medical services. Put that extra 47 millions on the system, and the system would collapse.
In Canada medical services are a right, not a privilege.
We don't tell you how to live, and that should be the way from your side..
please take Harper with you. We really would rather have Obama, or at least give Harper some pointers on how to work with others, he doesn't seem to get it.
It's good to see how welcome our President is in another country while so many REAL AMERICANS spends their days apologizing to the evil and vile people like Limbaugh. Hell is too good for this person.
Will Harper still be in office on the 19th of February? Not sure I would have wanted to go to Canada and get in the middle of that political fight.
@ An American:
Maybe we could also give some good tips on regulating your financial institutions, respecting human rights and lowering your health care costs (since ours is lower and EVERYONE is covered).
Who knows, maybe we'll even get thanked for fighting on the front lines in Afghanistan for last 7 years, losing over 100 of our soldiers and spending billions of dollars.
Lord knows Bush didn't seem too appreciative.
When Barack visits Holland we will double the Berlin-numbers and welcome him with 400.000. And I will be one off them.
WOW....... the Canadians will be thrilled!
HOPE WON.......... YES, AMERICA WE CAN AND WE WILL RECOVER!
We sure would'nt trade our health care for yours. I don't worry about getting sick. All i need is to show my health card and it's taken care of – no cost to me!! How evil.
Someone will complain because he is well-received. Can't please 'em.
No sane person with two brain cells to rub together actually likes Obama, so I can easily understand how there are more Canadians who dislike Obama then Americans. That being said, any person who tries to build positive foreign relations and bring Canada and America closer together is a good thing.
I would like to see much more economic and political cooperation and coordination with Canada. We are natural allies and have a similar political and social system, unlike Mexico.
If nothing else, know that California has always, and will always be a close friend of Canada.
