President Obama will head to Canada on February 19.

President Obama will head to Canada on February 19.

(CNN) –- President Obama will take his first foreign trip as commander in chief to Canada next month, his press secretary announced Wednesday.

“Canada is a vitally important ally and the president looks forward to the opportunity to speak with Prime Minister Harper and visit our neighbor to the north,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said during Wednesday’s press briefing.

Obama will head to Canada on February 19. Gibbs did not announce any further details about the president’s itinerary.

Former President Bush took his first international trip to Mexico, but many U.S. presidents have started their terms with a visit to Canada.

Let’s trade Ian to the US for a player to be named later. Or a bag of turd, I think we’d get the better deal. I wonder if Ian is Ian Robinson, that no talent hack who writes for the Sun?

Given how tightly the economies of Canada and the U.S. are linked, this makes good sense. I am one of the 70% or so of Americans who continue to be quite impressed with Obama and grateful that we finally have a real leader in the White House.

Hey Canada, keep him there! Oh, and don't tell him how your nationalized health care is doing, he wouldn't believe you anyway!

In Canada nobody goes bankrupt because they got sick; nobody looses their house because they got sick.

The only reason you get faster medical service in the US is because 47 millions can’t afford medical services. Put that extra 47 millions on the system, and the system would collapse.

In Canada medical services are a right, not a privilege.

We don't tell you how to live, and that should be the way from your side..

please take Harper with you. We really would rather have Obama, or at least give Harper some pointers on how to work with others, he doesn't seem to get it.

It's good to see how welcome our President is in another country while so many REAL AMERICANS spends their days apologizing to the evil and vile people like Limbaugh. Hell is too good for this person.

Will Harper still be in office on the 19th of February? Not sure I would have wanted to go to Canada and get in the middle of that political fight.

    @ An American:

Maybe we could also give some good tips on regulating your financial institutions, respecting human rights and lowering your health care costs (since ours is lower and EVERYONE is covered).

Who knows, maybe we'll even get thanked for fighting on the front lines in Afghanistan for last 7 years, losing over 100 of our soldiers and spending billions of dollars.

Lord knows Bush didn't seem too appreciative.

We sure would'nt trade our health care for yours. I don't worry about getting sick. All i need is to show my health card and it's taken care of – no cost to me!! How evil.

No sane person with two brain cells to rub together actually likes Obama, so I can easily understand how there are more Canadians who dislike Obama then Americans. That being said, any person who tries to build positive foreign relations and bring Canada and America closer together is a good thing.

I would like to see much more economic and political cooperation and coordination with Canada. We are natural allies and have a similar political and social system, unlike Mexico.

If nothing else, know that California has always, and will always be a close friend of Canada.
