Obama-Limbaugh stimulus plan?

Limbaugh is proposing his own stimulus plan.
Limbaugh is proposing his own stimulus plan.

(CNN) – An Obama-Limbaugh stimulus plan?

That's at least what the conservative talk radio host is proposing this week, first on his radio show Monday, and today in an Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal.

Limbaugh, who has sharply rebuked the president's more than $800 billion stimulus plan and admonished congressional Republicans for not doing more to stop it, says Obama should make a "genuine compromise" with Republicans wary the bill doesn't include enough taxes and calls for too much government spending.

Instead, Limbaugh proposes that 54 percent - about the percentage of the vote Obama won in the presidential election - of the stimulus bill go to the infrastructure spending the Democrats are proposing while the remaining 46 percent go to the tax cuts pushed by Republicans.

“In this new era of responsibility, let's use elements of both the Keynesians and the supply-siders to responsibly determine which theory best stimulates our economy - and if elements of both work, so much the better,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “...The American people are made up of Republicans, Democrats, independents, moderates, whatever they want to call themselves, but our economy doesn't know the difference. Our economy should not be focused on whether or not one party gets reelected. This is about jobs now.”

The stimulus measure passed by the House Thursday night includes $275 billion in tax cuts to individuals and businesses, far less than what Republicans had wanted. No Republican representative ultimately voted for the bill.

The Senate version of the stimulus bill - being debated Thursday - is expected to be more bipartisan in nature.

Why should Limbaugh care? All he does is talk about how he wants Obama to fail.

The problem, of course, is that Keynesian economics, in the past, has worked, whereas supply-side economics has not.

Hey – those tax cuts for the wealthy have done wonders for the rest of us now haven't they?
How much more does this blowhard want to line his pockets while the rest of country is going down the toilet?
The GOP should change their name to the IGMSY party (I Got Mine – Screw You).

He still doesn't understand that there aren't enough reconstruction projects that are ready to go to support 54% of the stimulus package. It's so easy to sit on the sideline and scream at the field; fatso has made an art of it.

more bipartisan in nature, please the republicans do not know anything about bipartisanship. They are trying to call the shots and it is not about saving or creating jobs for the American people, it is about political gain and being defiant towards the president and the American people. They could care less about what is going on in the economy because they are financially stable. If this thing gets any worse, we are going to see folk in business suits standing in the soup line and unemployment line. It could happen!

ok, wait, it's ok to spend $750 billion to bail out Wall Street, but not regular Americans? Next time, can we try the money on regular Americans, first, and if that fails, Wall St. gets nothing, instead of the other way around?

That's a very convenient way to look at things, isn't it?

Maybe we should have had that rule back in 2000. The Gore would have been our President and not GW.

Give it a rest Rush. Your time's up.

This is the third or fourth story I have seen on here about Limbaugh in just the last 48 hours. I keep reading about how IRRELEVANT he is. If this is so, WHY CAN'T THE MEDIA AND THE DEMOCRATS STOP TALKING ABOUT HIM?

KEEP IT UP, RUSH, YOU'VE GOT THEM RUNNING SCARED!

What a shock. The Republicans don't think there are enough tax cuts in the stimulus plan. They never learn. They think that the only way to stimulate the economy is tax cuts, no matter what actual history shows us. For instance, many economists say that the Bush tax cuts were mostly responsible for turning Clinton's $5+ billion surplus into a deficit in 2 years. For instance, Regan's tax cut/trickle down theory stagnated the economy. Doesn't matter. They have tax cuts on the brain. There answer to all things economic is tax cuts. Maybe they can explain how tax cuts help businesses that are losing money, and therefore, paying no taxes. Remember, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different outcome.

I wasn't aware that Rush had a Doctorate in Economics.

I hope the Republicans, who have clearly been ordered by party leadership NOT to work with President Obama, continue to act like petulant children who didn't get their own way. By all means, let's keep repeating the failed Bush policy belief that tax cuts will cure anything and everything. I'm certainly not thrilled either about increasing the deficit, but I am putting my faith in people who are far more qualified than I to make these tough decisions.

In 4 years when Americans see how much better off we are, and how many improvements have been made (not just in the economy, either), the Democrats will happily point out that we achieved it all WITHOUT the Republicans.

Guess who will then win in 2012?

Oddly enough that's the most sensible thing I have ever heard Rush Lumbaugh say. I didn't realise that conservatives actually knew the meaning of the words "Keynsian economics", and "Supply-side economics" hell I didn't know conservatives knew anything about economics period. Wonders will never cease. Rush Lumbaugh actually opened up a textbook.

it would be lovely if Rush Limbaugh would butt out. Clearly, he didn't vote for Obama and it would be nice if the president could get on with the job without the cheap shots of a two bit radio yakker.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

The original bill is filled with crap and garbage.

    do the math

$800 billion to create 3, heck i'll give you 4 million jobs.

Thats a cost of $200,000 to create 1 job.

Average salary in the U.S is around $50,000.

This is what happens when government tries to create jobs.

I think that's the big problem with Republicans. They try to use this new era of politics as a reason for getting things that they want too. They use words like "compromise" as a way of slipping in things that they want, and now if they don't get it they will blast Obama for not being bi-partisan. I'm sorry, but was BUSH bi-partisan at ALL?? Hell NO! Obama will work with Republicans, but he doesn't have to give in to all of their demands...they lost the majority of their elections this season!! Why in the world would he listen to who the American people DON'T want in power?? He doesn't have to! He isn't obligated! He is the President and will work with whomever he sees fit and still be fair with his proposals.
