Palin: PAC doesn't mean I'm running for president

Palin is heading to Washington this weekend.
Palin is heading to Washington this weekend.

(CNN) - Alaska governor Sarah Palin tried to beat back speculation she is already plotting a 2012 presidential bid Wednesday night, days after her newly-formed political action committee aroused suspicions to the contrary.

“No, not at all, not at all, no," Palin said definitely when asked if the new committee means she already has her eye on the White House.

Instead, Palin said her new PAC will help defray the costs of travel to events that may be construed as political.

"It’s helpful to have a PAC so that when I’m invited to things even like to speak at the Lincoln Day dinner in Fairbanks, to have a PAC pay for that instead of have the state pay for that because that could be considered quasi-political,"

Still, Palin is the first governor from Alaska ever to form a PAC, a move that has often preceded presidential runs.

"Now we’ll have an available source of funds so that we’re not coming close to any ethical line to be crossed in terms of travel or participation in events that will help Alaska, but could be seen perhaps as not worthy of state funding," she also said.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate also confirmed she is heading to Washington this weekend to attend the venerable Alfalfa Club Meeting, the annual closed-door gathering of the country's political elite.

President Obama is also expected to attend the event - the chief reason Palin said she wants to be there.

"How often will I have an opportunity to have dinner with the president," she said. "I will take up that offer to do so, yeah.”

She should, she should. This will guarentee Obama a headache free victory in 2012, and he can focus on issues like economy.

Thank you Sarah Palin. Now, would you just shut up and do your job? We've had enough of the "Palin Story of the Week" releases to last us for quite a long time.

Thank God she's not thinking of running for POTUS. This woman is nuts. She pretty much sabotaged her own political career. Calling one part of the U.S. more american than another was political suicide.

As a Democrat I urge all Republicans and Conservatives to donate as much money as they can afford to Sarah's PAC. Keep those funds out of the hands of viable presidential candidates!

Like, OK, she is planning to run for that job of president. Because, you know, she really thinks that OK she being goofy and divisive is you know a necessary job qualification. Can she still see Russia?

Well that confirms it then. EVERY politician claims for months that they are NOT running for President before they stand up and make an announcement that because of the dire state of the world they must do what deep down they wished they wouldn't have to do and run for President.

Why do news organizations do this. The article says NOTHING about Palin not running for President. It only says that the committee was not formed for the purpose of running for president. Her answer was about the committee, not about her presidential ambitions. Why did CNN put that as a title? come on CNN, do better than this.

You might as well run, Sarah. You are a heck of alot more qualified than what we have right now. There is a reason why the people of Alaska love you and the Washington-insiders and the media hates and fears you. It's because you are genuine and you are a threat to the status quo. SARAH PALIN = REAL CHANGE

Of course the fact that SarahPAC's offices are located in Alexandria, VA and not in Alaska is curious. I wonder if it has occurred to her recently that she is still the sitting governor of that state and maybe, just maybe, she should be concentrating her energies to that endeavor. I know if she was the governor of my state and was spending that much time "testing the water" I would be looking for better representation.

I went into http://www.adn.com and they have an article that shows otherwise. With the Federal Election Commission, Sarah Palin is signed up for a candidate for President in 2012. Why the conflicting stories? It is devious and misunderstanding for her to say this, when her own newpaper article has stated otherwise. I feel this way, if you lie to deceive the people eventually it will catch up. Enough of the lies, please. Lies is what was costly in the campaign.

are we really going to have to listen to 4 years of Presidential speculation and denials? Seriously. Two years was long enough and that was after we had a President in office for 6 years! Obama's been President for 10 days and we are already speculating who's gonna run against him?

This is somewhat of a misleading title. According to the story, Palin denied that the PAC should be read as if she is already focusing on the White House in 2012. She says it should not be understood to be that way.

It's great to have catchy titles that get people to read, but you'll lose the trust of readers if you have headlines that are somewhat misleading as to what the story is about.

But for one of the first times ever, I will say her comment in getting the opportunity to dine with the president, was gracious and humble. For once she was polite. Let's hope the pattern continues, let's hope she doesn't continue her habit of falsely attacking anything and everything (Americans, Media, Muslims, Non Christians, Children, Adults, Democrats, Republicans, Minorities, Majorities, Animals, Environment, Taxes)

And PACs are legal, because why? This method of fund raising is one of the best ways to insure we do NOT get pubic servants who have the interest of the people they are asked to serve. How would she be able to understand anything he is saying, they are quite obviously on opposite intellect levels! If Obama does as well as I expect him to (first time I've ever voted for a Democrat for President), I HOPE Palin runs for President and gets the nomination. It'll be a guaranteed win for Obama in 2012 as the only people I've met throughout this past election process who have been Palin supporters were they very extreme whack job fringe of the Republican party and they don't number nearly enough to get that whack job corrupt governor into the Presidency.

Palin is just another Amarosa, her 15 minutes are over, and she just won't go away. Palin keeps pretending she's a celebrity, a Diva, Ms. Congeniality, etc. Now Palin thinks she's an elitist...hanging out with the big politician's in D.C., getting her foot in the door for 2012, although I have a feeling the smart ones will just laugh at you. I wonder if Palin was even invited to this dinner, or if she invited herself...I'm sure the latter is true. I bet Obama will cringe when he sees her walk through the door. I hope security keeps her away.

Palin, do us all a favor and stay in Alaska, raise your kids, and run your state! You keep saying you're a "hockey mom", but you continue to prove otherwise. Fancy, expensive dinners with the Polical elite, a new PAC campaign that will send you around the country spending private money to benefit yourself of course, trying to gain ground with the GOP for 2012...need I go on? You're such a hypocrite, but mostly pathetic.

The two-faced inconsistencies of Palin’s messages when it suits her are astounding – running vs not running, “reformer” vs. violator of ethics laws (Troopergate), potentially of tax code (reimbursement for staying at home and for modifying forms for children’s travel) – why else the PAC?, improper pipeline bidding to a Canadian company, wanting to make Obama's pastor a campaign issue when she was exorcised from witches by a nutjob pastor, riling up, fomenting and refusing to disavow hate (clan rally, anyone?), making anti-American claims when her husband is a member of a secessionist party and has used her Oval Office, anti-socialist vs. distributor of checks to all Alaskans, plain-values purveyor of transparency when she cleaned out high end stores above and beyond guidelined purchases and had staffers place them on their credit cards, now wants to pal around with Obama. She wants to lead the GOP but can’t answer softball questions regarding any new ideas, is so egotistical that she can’t take any blame for the loss, and doesn’t even realize that the she and the GOP are driving away moderates.

We are evidently stuck with this moron forever. At least she has no power, and, most likely, will never have power.... so she will continue to play out her delusions of granduer with no real effect. It's scary she's supported (even admired) in some quarters... these people walk among us. And it's outrageous CNN editors insist upon reporting the movements of this myopic, winking, smug, right wing Barbie Doll. I'd prefer she would just go away (bad for my blood pressure), but that ain't gonna happen.

My family watched Gov. Sarah Palin's address of States of AK thou C-SPAN on Jan. 27, 2009. Her very detailed plan to increase of revenue thou energy independent in AK as well as a nation has highly amazed and gives us sort of hope. So far, Obama economic team has reported that how we'll spend one trillion dollars which send $360,000,000 for help of ABORTION which is murder to some countries in Africa and already wasted $150,000,000 for 3 hour the Inauguration as well as Obama will help ACORN which has under investigated by FBI with VOTER-fraud a huge money etc. American, however, have not figured out yet how Obama will increase Federal revenue from energy independent or the others sources. The both ways to spend funds or to increase revenue are available to increase jobs. However, the way to create jobs with spending a huge money that Obama has processed would be temporary ended. The way to create a lot of jobs with raising of revenue through energy independents; natural gas, drilling shores, clean coal, solar, winds that Sarah has implemented is more incessant and secure for Americans. That's why my family fully support Sarah Palin and Sarahpac.com. GO SARAH 2012/2016

Well....just the fact that she is preparing to run for President and is receiving support from the Republicans speak volume for that group of folks. If that is the best they have, great!!! She performs like an idiot. I hope the mentoring and tutoring are helpful, but so far there is little or no proof either is working for her.

I am not believing for second she isn't planning to run. She is just attempting to make herself look more viable in the years to come. I'm afraid she is going to be haunting us for a long, long time.

Sen. McCain may have served this country with distinction, but he sure did do us a huge disservice by letting this pandora out of the box!

For that I will never forgive him…

It's funny that because there was an Africian American man was elected to be Commander in Chief everyone is expecting him to cure all problems. What happened to the 43 Caucasian men elected before him, more recently BUSH? He screwed with country royally and walked away as if nothing was wrong. What makes Palin so qualified? The fact that she cannot speak a clear sentence? Or, that it took her 6 years to get a journalism degree? Or that she can run the state of Alaska, but can't run her own household? Please tell me.

God Bless Governor Palin and her family! Palin 2012 or Sooner!! As BO's Rev Wright said, God has Dam ed America, For he surly has. Only time will tell, very soon hopelly a true decent American will be in the White House not a community leader who sat in his Pastor's church listening to the evil spew out of his good friend's mouth....I guess the 67 million who voted for BO like that evil talk.

I am a McCain fan and a strong President Obama supporter ( I voted for him-yes "this one" voted for "that one").

Gov. Palin is someone I would like to meet. I want to ask her if she thinks that I am ready to travel to the moon. After all, I can see it from my house, and I also attended a NASA exploror school. So I know with her rationality on this topic, I'm sure to get her support.

Yes she is a successful govenor, I do give her that, but this woman should have been out of the news Nov. 4, 2008 at 11PM!

I sense fear in the minds of all those who want Palin to "go away". Eventually the aura that is Obama will disipate and even Bush won't seem quite as bad as he appeared to be. Just wait for the spend, spend, spend mentality to take its toll... TRILLION dollar deficits as far as the eye can see. We're still shaking in our boots and avoid the topic of the 20-30-40-50 TRILLION dollar shortfalls of the looming house of cards that is the pyramid scheme commonly known as "Social Security". Chaos is just around the corner on that topic and it may take a woman like Palin who is willing to say "NO!" to clean up after someone who insists on saying "YES!" regardless of cost.

Every time an article concerning Governor Palin appears here, it routinely attracts five or ten times the number of comments of any other article that day, mainly posted by apparent Democrats. What are you Dems so afraid of, or what is it that makes you so compelled to spout off? Please let me know....

@James.... we are NOT NOT NOT afraid of her. You Palinites keep trying to infer that. We comment because she is such a laugh we can't help ourselves. By all means run the dimwit in 2012. Just be ready to be dissappointed as BHO is reelected in a landslide. The people that love her are the same 25% (Brain dead) that think Duh-bya did a good job. We want her to run. I will even register as a Republican (while holding my nose) just so I can vote for the Lipstick Fido in teh primaries.

Ahhh....the stupid dems don't like it when they can't remain the victim. As their Hollywood moviestar, community leader BO said, we have 57 STATES.....stupid dems, and Tina Fey said "I can see Russia from my house" not Governor Palin, Tina Fey should have been elected as VP not JBimo. Dems are so stupid they don't know what is true or a lie. But as their great leader said, we have 57 states!!! I guess they don't teach American History at Harvard. God Bless Governor Palin!

As a life long Dem I hope the new Chickenhawk Republican chant becomes "Run Sarah Run". Should be as effective as "Drill Baby Drill" and as well thought out.
Have you people no shame.....at long last, have you no shame! Our country lanquishes on the brink of truly ending because of having been saddled with the "WORST" administration in our history. With all this misery going on your answer would be to send some silly small time mayor and governor to muck things up even more.
Thankfully the voters of this country finally realized that barroom slogans to serious problems only make things worse.

She could not win a dog catchers job in North Platt, Nebraska.
All she wants to do is raise money so she does not have to spend her own on travel, jobs, hotel rooms, maids, and even groceries.
What I so not understand who is dumb enough to send her money in the first place. There are many people that has to be dumber than she for sending their hard earned money or maybe it was given to them by the families estate and they do not have any sense of its worth.

James, I am one of those who is compelled to post every time. I guess the best way to explain it is, she is just the embodiment of everything that is wrong with this country. That she has an ounce of credibility speaks to the fact that there are people in this country who are SO politically ignorant, that they will believe anything they are told. Do you really believe she is competent? Intelligent? Honest? She is one of the most horrendous hypocrites I have ever seen in American Politics, and with this crop of fools, that is saying alot. I think those of us on the other side are giddy at the prospect of her running again. I, myself, hopehopehope she does. She guarantees my side another 4 years if she is the Republican Presidential Nominee. I find her interesting the way people stare at a car crash. She is such a disaster, I can't look away. And she is a window into the mentality of a good part of America that I have no contact with (thankfully). I find people who support her ceaselessly interesting. They trumpet their support for her ignorant of the fact that they are identifying themselves as imbeciles with no standards and no political knowledge. And, guilty, I can't get enough. Additionally, your misinterpretation of our excitement for fear is another window into your failure to recognize reality. You sould like a child- 'fraidy cat!'- when in reality, the fear is that she will NOT run. I actually think there are some who could give Obama a run for his money. She, however, is not among them. Don't be angry at those of us who are educated and who are paying attention. Don't resent the intellectuals. They will save this country, and your ignorant self in the process. You're welcome.
