WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Obama administration will provide an additional $20.3 million in humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza, the State Department said Friday.

The aid will be distributed through the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, the International Committee for the Red Cross and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The three groups are distributing emergency aid, including food, medical assistance, temporary shelter, employment, and electricity and water to Palestinians in Gaza.

The announcement of the aid was also made by Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George Mitchell, who is traveling through the region, where he is conferring with Palestinian and Israeli officials in an attempt to maintain the Hamas-Israel cease-fire and restart a stalled peace process.

On Friday Mitchell held a roundtable with humanitarian agencies and was briefed on the situation in Gaza, acting State Department spokesman Robert Wood said.

    That's commendable that President Obama is doing this but, I wouldn't give either Isreal or Palestine a freaking dime! Both governments are full of idiots and deserve to suffer. Let the people rebuild their own society. If the Palestinine people get fed up, they will overthrow thier government. If we keep acting as the world saviours, then they have no incentive to take matters in thier own hands.

    @Dallas Joe
    We can't afford this when our economy is a train wreck.
    ------
    20 Million is less than a dime per person – the annual US military aid to Israel is 3 Billion – over $10 per US resident (including children).
    - do you think you can affor a penny for a good cause?

    Ray – what republicans? The first sentence of this article clearly states "The Obama administration will provide an additional $20.3 million in humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza, the State Department said Friday." I didn't make that up, I just copied and pasted it, adding the quotes of course. ther isn't a republican name in the whole article.

    I support Obama, but this will not win over the hearts and minds of the palestinians towards the United States, especially not Israel.

    To hell with Isreal and Gaza. Let them destroy themselves. It is historical religous war starting in BC. No power in the world can ease that war. US must get out and rebuild the nation first. We are in this economic crisis, why giving the hard earned American $$ to Israel & Gaza government?

    Take the $$ back, President Obama and build bridge, road and education of this nation.

    As we should....if not for Bush, Israel would not have invaded Gaza when they did.....Bush made it clear to Israel that there was a small window of opportunity. He encouraged them to do it, and turned his back to the cries of "inhumanity" from Gaza when the bodies started to pile up. All the cries of ,"they shot at us first", from Israel are BS.....in the 5 years leading up to the latest invasion there were 4 Israelis killed compared to 30 a day in Gaza....who's killing whom? Israel must open the gates and allow those people out of Gaza. Israel didn't like it when they were held hostage, why do they think anyone else would like the same treatment?

    You're kidding me right? Did we provide the bombs etc to blast Gaza then turn around and give them money? Where the heck is money for American citizens? No, not the millionaires and wall street types, we all know they got their money. And no, not the ones Obama is trying to repay in this new stimulus for electing his idiot self. I mean the real folks. The ones who actually EARN their money then are FORCED to give it to the Government for their wasteful spending. Are we just stupid or what? I mean seriously, why do we the people stand back and let this crap continue? I simply do not understand why we continue to elect idiots who insist on giving to nations that we bomb and who don't even like us.It would be laughable if it wasn't so serious.
