Carville: A history lesson for Rush Limbaugh

James Carville says Rush Limbaugh's new bipartisan strategy could have served the country well in 2000.
James Carville says Rush Limbaugh's new bipartisan strategy could have served the country well in 2000.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - On Thursday, Rush Limbaugh, the moral and intellectual leader and most influential person in the Republican Party in the United States, wrote in the august op-ed pages of The Wall Street Journal, the acknowledged epicenter of right-wing thought, that President Obama should adopt a bipartisan solution to address the president's economic stimulus plan - or as Limbaugh refers to it, "porkulus."

Limbaugh proposes that because the Democrats got roughly 54 percent of the votes to the Republicans' 46 percent, the stimulus package should be allocated along his definition of ideological lines, i.e. 54 percent towards infrastructure improvement and 46 percent toward tax breaks for Limbaugh and his friends.

He writes, "Fifty-three percent of American voters voted for Barack Obama; 46% voted for John McCain, and 1% voted for wackos. Give that 1% to President Obama. Let's say the vote was 54% to 46%.

"As a way to bring the country together and at the same time determine the most effective way to deal with recessions, under the Obama-Limbaugh Stimulus Plan of 2009: 54% of the $900 billion - $486 billion - will be spent on infrastructure and pork as defined by Mr. Obama and the Democrats; 46% - $414 billion - will be directed toward tax cuts, as determined by me."

If Rush is so smart why did he get caught with dope??? Why won't he run for office? He has all the solutions and continues to lead the poor, misinformed, and racist around by the nose. Word to the wise this man does not care about most of us... he has a 40 million dollar contract and the tax cuts that he and most republicans are always talking about are to benefit them not the average American.

Personally, as a Republican I can say Limbaugh is not my 'Daddy' nor is he the "most influential person for Republicans in US". There are alot of us just sitting scratching our heads and asking since when did entertainment override common sense. So lost. Shameful.

    How I see It-
Entertainment overrode Common since with Raegan,His trickly down policy.....

Henry Miller, Cary, NC Wrote- What difference, to your wallet,

    I see It-
Fixing of the roads you drive on, Making sure that when you call 911 a police is available,or the Ems, or that if you have an Ice storm your power etc dosent go and you have to move to a shelter, because your power lines will be underground. That businesses will not only be in cities, But in rural areas when internet is run throughout the country.making sure that when you drive over a bridge it dosent collapse with you. making sure that people get birth controle so we dont have to support people with 14children over the next years because the poor or unemployed cannot buy protection.Educating our children, not just pushing them through the school system,so they will fully understand how to budget their limited incomes... I could go on, and on, In addition to any quick fix, there has to be set in place programs to establish the future. Its either we do it now or spend much more in the future, after meny more lives and been lost and futures stolen.

Carville I love you on CNN you're always honest and straightforward.
I'm glad some one has the backbone to stand up to that blubber butt.
I hope he takes up Campbell Brown's request to come on cnn and debate Ali Velshi or better yet you James Carville. I can't believe the power he has over the GOP voting no even before hearing the plan, going back and reporting to him what Obama is saying in his bipartisan meeting , calling up and aplogizing on the radio for what. Geez! Come GOP get a backbone or at the very least do what you have been elected to do.

    Hi James
There's pork that needs to go in our Stimulus Pkg here but unlike Americans we'll not have a chance to voice our opinion so be thankful.
And while I have no use for Limb*g I do agree there's much Pork in the Stimulus Pkg that needs to go. And I believe Obama also knows that and will make necessary changes. And Cheers Pres. Obama for calling out those CEO's/EXEC's on their shameful Bonuses!

Rush is correct. The racist empty suit hussein nobama is totally clueless and will destroy this country. Proven Fact!

BTW, that is what hussein nobama had in mind when he ran for president. Both him and that imbecile wife of his hate the US. She even admitted it. Proven Fact Again!

The only people more traitorous are the cult member voters who must hate the US so much that they voted the moron in. Third Proven Fact!

Seriously? How is it that such an obviously hateful person like Limbaugh can have so much power in thiis country? Why do people listen to him? He never says anything productive or helpful to improve our standards of living.

I think it's interesting how you say that Mr. Limbaugh is the most influential man in the Republican party. If he was, Mr. Carville, then the Republican party would not have picked John McCain as their pick to run for president. Quite frankly sir, possibly you could use a history lesson!!!!

everytime he says something on here, it's like blowing through a screen door, (he has no substance)

As for the "Rush" .........it's a wonder he doesn't have bodyguards, and I wonder if he sleeps at night with a gun under his pilow......
No wonder he has to take so many pills ! Maybe his life is a total wreck !! (he sure sounds like it)

Wow, i can't wait for 2012 when Obama and the DNC will use all this material. And then – as the cherry on top – he could be faceing Palin/Limbaugh! What a riot...

Limbaugh is an entertainer. Nothing more nothing less. Not only is he an entertainer when you look at his annual salary he is very good at it. He doesn't head the Republican party and if Dems claim he does then when is Obama going to show he is truly BiPartisan and go talk with him? Remember Limbaugh is not even a journalist. He heads no Party he makes no decisions. If you want to hurt him don't listen to him. If you don't listen to him don't worry about it. If Carville writes about Limbaugh and it causes a handul more to listen to him then Rush is happy. Considering how tied together these vermints are I wonder if Carville gets a cut of any increase in listeners to Rush? Trust me I wouldn't put it past them.

Rush, he's a joke what school of economics did Rush finish? Oh that's right he's a college drop out. Obama don't need to listen to this drug addict we just did tax cut last year it didn't work. Let try spending without the pork.

Why is it that the Dems continue to trot out Rush Limbaugh as if he were the leader of the Republican Party? He's not. In fact you Dems seem to pay him a lot more attention the we Republicans do. He says what he says because it's controversial, and that generates ratings. He's an entertainer, not a politician. Get it James? Say silly things, get lots of listeners, make more money. Howard Stern figured that out a long time ago too. But of course Carvel (alias the most partisan guy on Earth) knows that. Just as he knows the the FL recount was finished in 2000 and Gore really lost. Of course he never lets facts get in the way of a good partisan rant. Is HIS 15 minutes up yet?

Rush and his Limbaughites will continue to bemoan democrats for big government until armageddon. Republicans always talk about how wrong it is for the government to take more of their wealth in taxes. And they accuse the democrats of being arrogant and selfish?!It's just plain old GOP "spin," as they hope to cling to their money like greedy old misers with their last dying breath.

The Ragin' Cajun vs Jabba the Gut!!!
Limbaugh's verbal ramblings can be blamed on the residual effects of the oxycotin or the fact that he is just an idiot. What I found most absurd was Limbaugh using the words "to bring our country together". Limbaugh was built a career dividing our country along political, economic and racial lines. If you doubt the last one, just ask the "overrated" Donovan McNabb or "Barack the Magic Negro". I, like many, would love to see Limbaugh debate these issues with Mr. Carville face to face. We all know that will never happen. Limbaugh is a coward. From the safety of his controlled broadcast booth, he spews his manifesto of greed and intolerance, cutting off callers with opposing points of view. His legion of dittohead zombies and Stepford Wives republicans should heed the advice of the Wizard of Oz: Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. In this case, the man behind the microphone.

There's problems in his argument, Democrats didn't reduce the deficit, republicans did, they had control of the house the last 6 years of the Clinton era, so it wasn't clinton's doing that balanced the budget, it was the republicans

Great idea Rush! By that logic shouldn't President Bush have acted 50.1% of the time in the interests of Dems and 49.9% of the time in the interest of Reps? Cleary that never happened... Whine whine whine, the country is on the brink because of republican policies. The last thing we need to do is adhere to them further.
