Hillary Clinton has forgiven her personal loan but owes vendors $5.9 million.
WASHINGTON (CNN) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rang in the new year still saddled with $5.9 million in debts left over from her unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign, according to records filed Saturday with the Federal Election Commission.
The nation's top diplomat has been steadily chipping away at unpaid campaign bills since suspending her White House bid in June, when her debt peaked at $25.2 million.
That amount included both $12 million owed to vendors and the $13.2 million she loaned her campaign from personal funds.
Clinton's campaign was unable to repay that personal loan by the time the Democratic National Convention convened in Denver, Colorado, in August, the deadline mandated by the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law.
The former New York senator has since forgiven the entire loan amount, leaving only the $5.9 million owed to vendors on the campaign's books.

LMAO. The sad part is she will bankrupt the vendors.
Way to go Clinton.
Having to do with All politcians, when the average person know's they have to pay taxes on every dime they make and the people running our country "make a mistake" by missing paying taxex on $80,000 from a speach they make, get real.
No one should be able to run for office or take any position in politics if they have not paid taxes on every dime they have made.
All lobbiest should be done away with. Politicians retire as millionairs from the money they put in their pockets they have received from the lobbiest, this has to stop. They are not here to make a better life for the average american, they are there to make their own profits.
Pres Obama, won the DNC Pick, Won the USA President! Way, is she doing a job I have to pay, and She have to pay like Bush and the Bad Bank's!
Don't worry, she won't pay taxes while she is Sec of State since Obama will forgive her, and she will pay it off. She will leave the position richer than that debt could ever be.
It's not REAL DEBT, just the balance of consulting fees "owed" to Mark Penn, the guy who ruined her campaign.
Penn can write this off, and VOILA, Hillary is out of debt.
SHAME ON HILLARY for asking hard-working Americans to fork over their cash to pay off a political hack.
Hillary is NOT IN DEBT, PERIOD. This is just a made-up debt to enrich a friend.
Hillary and Penn should be ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!
women haters
I hate barack
this is a money making deal for the Clintons. Most people cannot comprehend the tax laws behind this. the loans from the Clintons to pay for it is one very big tax write off for them.
The Clintons are living proof that you can take the rednecks out of their state but you cant take the state out of the rednecks.Long live the Union.
She looks old, she looks sad and I feel sorry for her. She should have been president but she never will, it shows on her face, her demeanor and shy in the world did she take Secretary of State? What a slap in the face.
to hell with all of you haters. guess what, she's going to be around for a while. get used to it!

Maybe old Bill can "bail" her out. He makes millions for doing nothing
-----
Are you kidding me? Bill has done some great things with the CGI. Obviously you aren't one of the 'educated' supporters of Barack.
Typical Republican to criticize Democrats. To bad your advice wasn't taken by Republicans when they allowed President Bush to run up the deficits of this country and to put our country in the financial mess we are in right now. Hillary Clinton will be doing just like most Americans are right now, struggling to pay her debt, period.
It is time for the Clinton haters to back off. No matter what you all may think of Hillary and Bill Clinton, they obviously cared more for the people of this country than their party. Consider the state our country was in after eight years of Bill Clinton's leadership vs. the eight years of Republican leadership.
you made your bed
Good thing she did'nt become president. She can't even keep track of her own finances. She's waiting for the government to bail her out.
The way people criticize on blogs amazes me. It sounds like no has any problems. Everyone must have a high paying secure job. No mortgage, No credit card debt, have tons of money socked away for their retirement, funds to send their children to college and top shelf health care. Personally, I have none of the above, therefore I am willing to give Obama a chance.
Maybe Obama can throw some lobbying work her way.
I just read.."The Extreme Makeover of Hillary Rodham Clinton" OMG
President Obama's first mistake was making her part of his cabinet !!
He had better keep a watchful eye on the Clintons....and every American should read this book about the REAL Hillary.
She better hurry and come up with a plan because I'm sure she thought she had until the 2016 elections to pay off this debt and build a warchest for her next run at president. But if Obama continues to go the way his first couple of weeks have gone he will be out after one term....he nominates one corrupt person after another to his administartion, he preaches endlessly about bipartinship and then gets ZERO votes from the opposition and 11 defectors from his own party on his first major proposal and his plan to fix what he has described as his top priority just may get shot down by both parties, his gitmo decision with no follow-up plan and his press secretary who fumbles every question thrown his way have all resulted in the worst start to a presidential term in history.
Wow, again the commenting Obamaniacs illustrate total ignorance of campaign finance rules, saying how Clinton should just "pay it back". She can't – campaign finance rules prohibit that. But then, I'm not surprised that the Obamaniacs are ignorant about this: there candidate decided to just ignore campaign finance rules so he could outspend everyone else to ensure victory. CNN, maybe you should be more responsible in reporting and say WHY Clinton cannot just write this debt off.
Now, for those saying she should just have "dropped out" and wouldn't have any debt. This is a candidate that got 50% of the vote, despite being outspend by more than 2:1. Why the heck should she have dropped out? All that would have happened would be you same folks calling her a quitter.
Looks like she needs a bailout. Citigroup can auction its jet....
What is here net worth, including the campaign debt? My sense is that she is still a very wealthy lady, not even including her husband Bill's wealth.
What is it with money issues and these Democrats in Obambi's cabinet?
Bleep the little people right Hillary, as long as you fought the good fight, you don't care if he little people get their dough.
Ooops, my bad, I should stay away from any buses as I may get thrown under one for SPEAKING THE TRUTH about this empty, empty vessel.
Good start Barry, it's going to be a short reign.

For Crying Out aloud !!! Hey, Have BUBBA WRITE OUT A CHECK, HE MADE OVER 10 MILLION DOLLARS LAST YEAR.. ENOUGH OF ALL READY OF THIS LADY WHINING AND COMPLAINING!!!! NO MORE HILLARY.....!!!
No money for Mark Penn. Ever.
She is not belly acking about her debt. It just cnn putting up a story on a slow news day. Most of the money she owes is to mark penn not private vendors. Also to anynomous what are you talking about she was forgiven her debt in case you dont understand what tha means, it means this she loaned 13 million dollars of her own money which she knows she is not allowed to get back. Understand now she lost 13 million she's not belly aching she is over and like I said mark penn can get paid when ever. Get off Hillary's back.
Post cnn.
