Clinton started 2009 with $6 million in debt

Hillary Clinton has forgiven her personal loan but owes vendors $5.9 million.

Hillary Clinton has forgiven her personal loan but owes vendors $5.9 million.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rang in the new year still saddled with $5.9 million in debts left over from her unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign, according to records filed Saturday with the Federal Election Commission.

The nation's top diplomat has been steadily chipping away at unpaid campaign bills since suspending her White House bid in June, when her debt peaked at $25.2 million.

That amount included both $12 million owed to vendors and the $13.2 million she loaned her campaign from personal funds.

Clinton's campaign was unable to repay that personal loan by the time the Democratic National Convention convened in Denver, Colorado, in August, the deadline mandated by the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law.

The former New York senator has since forgiven the entire loan amount, leaving only the $5.9 million owed to vendors on the campaign's books.

I personally don't care about Secretary of State Clinton's debt. She can parlay her government role into the millions upon millions of dollars as her sex fiend husband has done.

    Let her eat cake.

I hope there is no mention of bailing her out. If she has that much to have loaned herself that much money she needs to spread the weath or at least let us tax payers in on her secret to accumalating that much money. I am sure we could all learn from her on how to make money.

5.9 million is just a small portion of what they earn.If you couldn't afford the campaign debt don't run.I don't care about this debt because most politicians are corrupt anyway.Do u hink that Bill does all these so called charity work without making millions himself. If u believe that u are as big a joke as they are.

If we had known she was going to fold and support Osama, she would be much deeper in debt. She never would have gotten my money.

That is not a big deal to th eclintons. They hae so much more and will be making so msny more millions, she doesn't have to worry about the $6 million. She is still better off than 95% of Americans today. There are people who will lose their homes, families will probably split up to live with other members, families are going homeless, and we need to talk about Clinton's $ 6million debt? Grow up!

If the reports are accurate, then it appears Hillary has the cash to pay off the existing small suppliers.

The major supplier left with a debt of about 4.5 million owed by Hillary is her former campaign manager Mark Penn.

Considering what a disaster Penn was, if I was Hillary, I'd pay off the small suppliers and let Penn hang in the wind.

When your worth 100 million and counting, this is like the rest of us normal people who, if we are lucky to be worth $100,000 needing to come up with $5000 to pay somebody back.

Stop it. Stop talking about this, it's a joke.

We got a bunch of idiots calling themselves jornalist, writting about this crap.

Next thing you know Jack Cafferty will want to chime in.

Probalby here friends that don't pay their Taxes, like Dashcle, could help out. Use that unpaid Tax Money. Would probably cover her bill and the national debt, and reconstruction of iraq as well.

Too bad. Hillary asked for it. Why did she run her campaign to the very end I will never understand. I think Barack will most likely help Hillary pay off her debt, because Barack is a cool guy and will help her. But, what she did really annoys the heck out of me. She is a very rich woman and she can pay it back too.

The pro-Obama media sabotaged her campaign and even now you keep up the hate.

The haters deprived our Country of the BEST president we could ever hope to vote into office.

    Leave Hillary alone- NOW!

Investigate all the illegal donations the honest Abe- I mean Obama- accepted in order to steal the nomination.

    Hillary is the best.

The hate from the Obama supporters gutted and sabotaged and swiftboated her campaign.

Obama ignored all the rules and accepted illegal donations and turned back on his support of campaign finance reform...

Yeah, that's a MUCH better public servant.
    Obamabots are SO ignorant.

Why should President use his campaign left over to pay Senator Clinton's debt? She really does not need it and this article makes no sense being published.

For one; the Obama machine has helped to pay back some but the most remaining belong to Mark Penn. He was the main person to cause her down fall AND he is a rich man. He should forgive that debt and call it his own mistake.

The election ended in November and I see no reason for continuing this subject. The Clintons are not poor and as long as the small vendors were paid; that's what matter most.

Anyone venturing into politics knows very well the expence and just like Mitt who spent from his own pockets and lost; it is their own misjudgment and not the tax payers.

  21. Solid for Hill

The more you all pile on this woman and try to drag her under- the more the people love her. Hillary shines.

Her support is rock solid. Obama's?- well, it is based on who has the most money and power and influence. iT IS BOUGHT BY PANDERING TO THE MEDIA. The lazy ignorants who never cared enough to vote before, demanded an Obama win and the Country catered to their demands.

Obama cheated his way to a primary win. WE ALL KNOW THAT.

Trashing Hillary will just make us dislike the Obamabots.

    Keep it up.

The $6m should only take three trips abroad and it will be paid off. This is what the Clintons do best. Obama must be nuts and stupid making the appointiments he has made.

Regardless of her debt, Hillary Clinton is an excellent choice for Secretary of State. She's a fighter, as we all know, and won't rest until she's heard!

Wish I had some money to donate to her debt but nobody has any money these days. Wish we all had some jobs.

  24. Fools for Obama

ANYone not a republican could have won the presidency this election year. Wow big historic moment for Obama. Press the big D on the ballot.

That is why the media and Obama and Obamabots worked SO hard to gut and trash the true leader- Hillary R Clinton. SHE was the only real threat to Obama and he fought dirty to sabotage her.

    Americans know what really happended.

With Obama as the only democrat left standing, We all voted for the democrat- NOT for OBAMA.

Watch what will happen in 4 years.

GuyinIowa – Please educate yourself about ex-Pres Bubba before you make such fool of yourself again. He has been trolling around the middle east, africa and asia raking in tens of millions, with who knows how much else under the table and in future considerations. His Saudi and other ME connections have caused untold heartburn to Obama's administration who don't really know how to control this rogue, and he has yet to come clean about many shady contributions. And with Hillary as Secy of State, you can bet huge money that his influence peddling will soar to much higher levels. Someday this will all come to light; Bubba just hopes it occurs after he is long gone and people don't care.
