Hillary Clinton has forgiven her personal loan but owes vendors $5.9 million.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rang in the new year still saddled with $5.9 million in debts left over from her unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign, according to records filed Saturday with the Federal Election Commission.

The nation's top diplomat has been steadily chipping away at unpaid campaign bills since suspending her White House bid in June, when her debt peaked at $25.2 million.

That amount included both $12 million owed to vendors and the $13.2 million she loaned her campaign from personal funds.

Clinton's campaign was unable to repay that personal loan by the time the Democratic National Convention convened in Denver, Colorado, in August, the deadline mandated by the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law.

The former New York senator has since forgiven the entire loan amount, leaving only the $5.9 million owed to vendors on the campaign's books.

  1. Love you Hillary

    We get it.

The Media loves Obama- even when he cheats and lies.

The Media hates Hill- because she knows what she is doing and does it without a fawning media bandwagon.

The Hillary bashers and women haters are out in full force.

Too bad more than half the country realizes that Hillary should be the president.

The Clinton's are great hardworking patriots trying to better our Country.

You haters do not deserve them. You DO deserve the Obama that you voted for. Reap what your hatred has sown.

  4. Thank you Hill

Thank you Hill for going into debt and using your own money for US- the people.

Shame on Obama for stealing the primary from you while pretending to play clean and promising to be different. And shame on you for not paying off her debt like other winners do.

Shame on the biased media for gutting our best hope and fawning over an phony baloney Obama.

Makes me love Hillary even more.

  10. Hey Anonymous

Anonymous- you must be an ignorant idiot- the kind that got AmeriKa in this hole to begin with.

Clinton's debt was not forgiven. She "forgave" her own loan (debt) to her own campaign. That means she paid that portion of the debt- the amount she loaned to her own campaign- off with her own money. She loaned it and then she took the hit on it, instead of repaying it from campaign funds. She still has the remaining debt. If she had loaned her campain EVEN more from her own money, she would have "forgiven"- ie paid that off also.

Learn something before you speak- or blog.

I hope Hillary isn't bothering with paying her taxes – no one else in Obama's cabinet can be bothered to do so.

Like Leona Helmsley said, taxes are for the little people!

She's a strong woman, she'll take care of her finances. It's the average American who needs the most help. And I'm not stating that as a handout, I'm saying it for all the people who lost their jobs/insurance and security through no fault of their own. It was the greediness of the "well-to-do'ers" up the corporate ladder(s). Why not give every American $5000.00 to spend? I know mine would stimulate my wallet and the economy! Bob

Tate~your grammar, spelling and overall grasp of the crux of this story is a disaster worth at least two weeks of chuckles. First of all, her debt is not for unpaid taxes but rather bills she accrued that she did not pay back while she was campaigning. Secondly, it is democrat, not democrate; 'know' and not 'no' and I don't even KNOW where to start on the word 'sprouce'...what comes to my mind is maybe that is what you would call a spruce tree that is married to a Druid. The little red line under a word means there is a problem. I would suggest you pay attention to it and the actual post.

I guess this is news because it is an appeal to the unemployed, the underemployed to help get another rich person out of a jam, while they hold on to their money. A daughter, who is or was a hedge fund manager, a husband who has charged as much as a million dollars for one speech. Oh where is puma when you need them? A daughter who thought so little of the democratic president that she did not even attend the inauguration of the first AA president and a husband who was obviously not happy to be at the inaugural ceremony. The attacks they have made against anyone who opposed Hillary ie Bill Richardson and Caroline Kennedy. Pay your own bills that's what the rest of us do.

Anyone who donated to President Obama's campaign has received e-mails asking us to help Hillary out. This is difficult for me....for the same reason it was EASY to donate to President Obama....honesty and sincerity. I actually like Clinton and Bill was a great president. Hillary will be a GREAT secretary of state. But she handled her run for the presidency in a less than honorable way, running up huge hotel bills, refusing to take it easy and insisting on living the lavish life....I will suffer financially for Obama because I believe in his choices and he motivation....I cannot suffer financially for someone who spent their money carelessly.

If she and hubby Slick were worth $106 million, how can she have ANY debt? She is disingenuous to the core, and taxpayers should not contribute one cent to arrogant liberal millionaires.

Next time the dems come to town to campaign, the vendors better get their money up front before delivering.
Remember the Clintons have been living off the gov. (state and Fed) all their adult lives. LIke Bill said " I like living in public housing".
I see the congress has increased their "allowance" to a million per person a year. Thats the money in their "petty" cash drawer. What a joke. And they call themselves "servants". ya, right.
