(CNN) - He's the first commander-in-chief to carry a BlackBerry-like device — but that doesn’t mean he’s reachable. President Obama is staying mum on the identity of the privileged few who’ve been given his new e-mail address.
In an interview with NBC Sunday, the president said only a "handful" of people are able to contact him through the super-secure device.

"Look, there are security issues involved," Obama said. "And so we’ve gotta make sure that I’m not - creating a situation where - you know, potential people can compromise our [security].
Obama also suggested the list does not include any world leaders.
"Typically, world leaders are going to be contacting me through the Oval Office. They know how to reach me there," he said.
The exclusive list of those who have the president's e-mail address reportedly includes a small group of senior aides and cabinet officials. According to a report in the New York Times, security precautions make it impossible to forward an e-mail from the president, or to send the president attachments.

It's also likely Obama's e-mail address will change frequently to ensure it remains secure.
Speaking Saturday in front of the Alfalfa Club Dinner - an annual event attended by the country's political elite - Obama joked about the ultra-limited access to president’s inbox.
"It's a very exclusive list. How exclusive? Everyone look at the person sitting on your left. Now look at the person sitting on your right. None of you have my e-mail address."

Any hacker or state-sponsored group isn't going to try to get his email address directly. The easier way is to get it by cracking less secure accounts, like Rahm Emanuel, Robert Gates, etc. With enough know-how, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out a few names on that exclusive list, to get into their account, and to spoof an email when/as needed.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a democrat and I was a big fan of him but I think Obama starts to smell now. He said long before he swore in as president, he said he would like to keep his mobile device so that he could directly hear from the public rather than through his staffers. That device costs somewhere between 3 to 4 grand to make and it will cost more to use throughout his term in office. This is not merely a HIGH-TECH device. It is, in fact, a HIGHER-TECH device because the service on the device has to be technically feasible to meet all the requirements to ensure his safety. The device itself is worthless without the service. This device is a 'WANT' after all rather than a "NEED." He should say so frankly in the first place. Why does he think he is more important than 2 Bushes & 1 Clinton? The reason for having the device is as valid as having a basketball court in the White House. It is simply because he wants it. I think he should PAY FOR IT OUT OF HIS POCKET. He makes $ 4,00000 a year.

What is the big deal about his email address and blackberry? I am pretty positive that previous presidents have their own but not as well talked about. He can't be the most advanced president when it comes to technology. He is taking advantage of it because it is faster and that he can get access to it anytime because of his blackberry. This should not be the discussion, people and blaming the republicans about it is totally uncalled for. Of course, he is the first black(not really because he is bi-racial) doesnt mean he is the one invented the technology. Pretty sad considering you can't declare bankrupcy on student loans – if you are successful in reducing your student loans through one of their programs, , they call it a gift and you must pay taxes on the amt it is reduced. And, don't forget the student loans being collected on today are from the 80's and 90's with interest rates around 10-15% Great move for the government to not permit anyone to declare their student loans on a bankrupcy. Stick it to the poor suckers stupid enough to take a student loan at those high rates. Most of them will never be able to pay them back but will be making payments on them the rest of their lives. That is- at least they will be when they have jobs.

Quite frankly I could care less who has his ear or eyes through email. The problem for America is what is "between his ears" via a lifetime of hating America's original founding and Judeo-Christian heritage. That is a lot harder to protect America from than a Blackberry!
Sometimes we can't read between the lines. Realistically, he can not email or talk with the whole world anyway. The media need to back off on some things. Some of the problems we have today is because of the media rather the media wants to recognize it or not. I am really disappointed with some of the things the media reports. The media is so negative now that I try to engage myself and my kids in positive things and we are watching more sports etc..... I hope the President Obama address some of the media issues, so we can start turning our country around.

The Bush Administration used Republican Party servers instead of U.S. Government servers for the majority of their email (similar to Gov. Palin using Yahoo instead of State of Alaska accounts), thus avoiding any requirements to keep those emails for accountability purposes. Nobody in the media got too worked up about that.
But somebody has Obama's email address and it's a scandal. Double standard? You decide!

All presidential correspondence should be retained for the Freedom of Information Act. With Obama's stubborn insistance on retaining and using his Blackberry while in office, one wonders if the real reason for that insistance is that any communication done via his Blackberry will not be preserved or scrutinized. That's really why he has it, and why some will contact him using the "secret email address' – the one that cannot leave a trail. Its interesting how he almost flaunts it too...
Make it easier on yourself...set up a web site through your former campaign people so you stay connected to the voice of the 'real' people....then check in with those folks every day or so to see the tempature on the issues. It's a win win....public gets to voice concerns, ideas, etc and you stay connected via an intermideary that handles the web.

Perhaps CNN chose not to pull this particular story from the National Enquirer. Come on, you sound like you are frequenting psychotic angelfire sites looking for anything you can to discredit Obama. Also, the idea that diplomacy is "weak" is as ignorant as TCM's posts. Whether you repubs want to believe it or not, we can't wage war on every country that we don’t agree with. How about letting him get working? So far Obama has not really made any mistakes to speak of. Hell, at this point in the Bush term the Repubs were still looking for a way to steal the election for Bush and Bush himself was out golfing, vacationing and playing cowboy in Texas. When Obama makes a mistake get on him for it, but as it stands he appears to have more brain-power than all the Republicans combined.
I want him to be in the 21st century and not dummed up like Bush.
