(CNN) - Elizabeth Edwards has largely avoided the spotlight since her husband admitted to an extramarital affair last summer, but the wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards is certain to draw headlines when she releases a personal new book this spring.
In Resilience, scheduled for a May release, Edwards will discuss how she's dealt with difficult moments in her life — like her husband’s affair, said the publisher.
"She would exhibit…remarkable grace and courage again when the very private matter of her husband's infidelity became public fodder," Broadway Books said in a release announcing the upcoming publication of the book.
Edwards has repeatedly declined to discuss her husband's relationship with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter.
“[Edwards is] one of the most beloved political figures in the country, and on the surface, seems to have led a charmed life,” said publishers. “In many ways, she has. Beautiful family. Thriving career. Supportive friendship. Loving marriage. But she's no stranger to adversity. "
Edwards is also expected to discuss her ongoing battle with breast cancer, and the 1996 death of her 16 year-old son Wade.
I have so much respect, admiration and love for her. She is a woman that has been through so much, battling cancer, dealing with a husband that had an affair and still standing with her head up. Elizabeth, please continue to be true to yourself always and may God continue to bless you and your family.
Someone that reall cares,
She's avoided the spotlight until it can fatten her bank account and sell a few books. The Edwards' have no shame- neither of them.
no idea why she stayed with him.
To the writer of this article: Mrs. Edwards son Wade died when we were in middle school...1996 not 1986!

Shame on you, commenting on her book is one thing but personally attacking this woman because she looks dowdy (cancer and the chemical cures can be hell) is way to far off base. YOU know men can get breast cancer too. Yes they can. Don't speak to soon on how Ms Edwards looks for YOU may have the same thing happen to you...
As for her book, if you have nothing good to say, then don't read the book but for her health, leave her alone....
As for her husband, he knows he is a pretty boy, women throw their selves at his feet by the minute and he must have gotten feet of clay.
To michael : the lady has cancer! And you're criticizing her appearance? Your "I can see why he was having an affair" remark shows your shallowness and cruelty.
I THINK THE EDWARD'S NEED TO GO QUIETLY IN THE
I CAN'T SEE WHERE THEIR LIVES ARE THAT INTERESTING.
SHE IS A LITTLE LATE IN DEALING WITH THE SCANDAL. ABB

I can see why he was having an affair
Wow, was that unnecessary!
integrity and courage
something only a few really have, she would make a great addition to the GOP, come on over
Give her a break! She has cancer!! What is with you people? How great would you look after chemo, perhaps radiation, who knows what?
As for those who would put her down for "standing by her man". She obviously made the decision she thought was best for herself and her family. Many people are willing to forgive infidelity and work to make their marriages work. Better, in my opinion, than walking away from a commitment that you have made when the going gets tough.
I wish her all the best.
TO THE WRITER CALLED THE HEART OF THE MATER. HOW DARE YOU MAKE THESE STATEMENTS. YOU DON'T KNOW IF HE HAS COME CLEAN AS YOU PUT IT. YOU DON'T KNOW THE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN SAID OR DONE BETWEEN THEM, YET YOU JUDGE THEM LIKE YOU WERE SOME RICHTEOUS SUPER BEING. IT IS THEIR BUSINESS IF THEY STAY TOGETHER. REMEMBER JUDGE NOT LEST YOU BE JUDGED LIKEWISE. GIVE THEM A BREAK.
Make the money.
Obama-mama: Are you serious by asking what happened to her? Chemo and cancer happened to her. Neither one's a real picnic but when you're faced with something like, oh, DYING, you do what you have to do to live.
Michael: I bet you're a real prize yourself.
LIKE HILLARY, SHE HAS PUT UP WITH A NO COUNT HUSBAND
I will definitely read her book.
She has been through quite a lot. It is always inspiring to hear how others have overcome their challenges in this life. I look forward to reading about hers!
And Michael, that wasn't a very kind comment.
As a Christian I believe in reconciliation in troubled marriages. I hope they are able to take steps toward this goal. As for "the heart of the matter" that kind of comment is why we have over 1/2 of our marriages in divorce. I guess I could agree with the statement you don't always have to stand by your spouse, but should always stay with your spouse.
So many seem to have forgotten how John Edwards publicly and condescendingly attacked Bill Clinton after his affair. He is the worst kind of hypocrite.
On top of that, he selfishly risked his party's future, not to mention his wife's health and his family's stability and integrity. All for some crazy, stupid skank?
I'd rather have cancer than have to look back on a life wasted with such a fraud of a human being.
What a cartoon character of a politician. Maybe he has paid his taxes, at least?
What happened to Mrs. Edwards...boy this has really hit her hard.
sHE IS ONE TOUGH COOKIE. oNE REALLY HAS TO ADMIRE HER FOR THIS i'D SAY.
She had so much to say about John when he was running for President....now she doesn't say a word.
Michael, let's see how hot you'd be if you were dealing with the kind of debilitating disease she's living with. Grow up.
michael, that was just rude. what the heck do you mean, you can see why he had an affair? she's a nice woman, that has courage and strength. she lost a child, is battling cancer, and you have the nerve?get over yourself.i would leave my spouse if htey cheated and it blew up to be this big, but at the same time, why throw a 30+ year marriage away?john edwards should be ashamed of himself, but this happens everyday, to many.
You go, girl!!
McCain had an affair AND divorced his crippled wife, and still ran for POTUS... so the sky's the limit for you, Ms. Edwards!!
This woman is made of the stuff that makes us Americans. She is a true patriot...
I admire her for her courage, intelligence and commitment to values that are important to achieving real equality in our country. In my opinion, she is an outstanding human being.
While I think Senator Edwards needs to come clean, he is correct in his positions about so many of the issues facing our country. Regretably, our nation is now the loser because his intelligence and commitment to helping the less fortunate in our society could make an important contribution to the Obama administration.
So, I wish them both well.
