(CNN) - Elizabeth Edwards has largely avoided the spotlight since her husband admitted to an extramarital affair last summer, but the wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards is certain to draw headlines when she releases a personal new book this spring.
In Resilience, scheduled for a May release, Edwards will discuss how she's dealt with difficult moments in her life — like her husband’s affair, said the publisher.
"She would exhibit…remarkable grace and courage again when the very private matter of her husband's infidelity became public fodder," Broadway Books said in a release announcing the upcoming publication of the book.
Edwards has repeatedly declined to discuss her husband's relationship with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter.
“[Edwards is] one of the most beloved political figures in the country, and on the surface, seems to have led a charmed life,” said publishers. “In many ways, she has. Beautiful family. Thriving career. Supportive friendship. Loving marriage. But she's no stranger to adversity. "
Edwards is also expected to discuss her ongoing battle with breast cancer, and the 1996 death of her 16 year-old son Wade.
Michael, I feel sorry for your wife. If you're not married yet, don't.
What a remarkable woman! I cannot imagine surviving the loss of a child much less a long battle with Cancer that will most likely end up taking her life anyway. She has shown tremendous strength and courage through it all. It is not her fault that her selfish evil husband decided to have an affair. I am no longer a John Edwards fan but will continue to cheer Elizabeth Edwards on until the end. She's probably only staying for the young kids anyway. Why send Daddy away now when Mommy may not be around much longer. I think she has performed the most unselfish act any person can perform. I applaud you Elizabeth Edwards and your children will grow up and be able to read your side of the story now that you are publishing this book.
Hey Michael, grow up or shut up! This woman is probably going through breast cancer treatment as we speak. Not, it's not pretty and your body retains water and you are bloated and nauseous pretty much 24/7.
I don't know who you are but I feel for you and your family and hope you NEVER have to go through cancer treatment. You are a sorry human being.
Isn't it amazing how the media decided to "filter" the whole scandal as it happened last year? And people on these blogs still try to say the media isn't biased. Give me a break.
Some of you people are unbelievable holding this woman accountable for the status of a "party" when she is battling for her life. People have been huffing politics when it reaches this stage.
Elizabeth Edwards is an example of extreme courage under withering fire. Most of us could only hope to be as morally upright and resilient as she has been.
I'll buy any book she writes as soon as it hits the shelf.
Apparently you people only see the outside,. She is one marvelous human being. Beautiful, intelligent, caring ,kind, and gentle. There are a lot more adjectives I could use to describe her. Men don't appreciate a woman of her caliber.
You fight bone cancer and see how you look! How un-caring and stupid can you be?
I think the Edward's family needs to fade into oblivion. We know all we need to know.
To obamamama and michael:
What happened to her? She has cancer.
Shame on you.
michael = LOSER
How about you try a few rounds of chemo and see how you look jerk!
Evidently, living in that new 28 thousand square foot home eases some of the pain.
"Charmed" life? Hardly. Breast cancer, losing a son, cheating husband and a baby out of wedlock hardly equals a fantastic life. She's had every nightmare heaped on her I can think of. Might want to work on that marketing message a little.
Folks, she's on chemotherapy, which may have accounted for some of her blunders back in during the campaign and certainly accounts for the rough photo. If she survives the cancer and chemo, her looks will improve. Meanwhile, can we have her husband horsewhipped on the Capitol steps like in the old days?
I'm sure that being a cancer survivor and then having the stress of an adulter husband would be enough to make anyone look "unglamorous"...I think she looks fine...I'm not buying the book though but more power to her!!!
Go Elizabeth! Men are pigs as evidenced by Michael.
I wish her well, I see the beauty inside, which Americans need to look at! One never knows what goes on behind closed doors, and she is the one that has to deal with the issues. She has had to walk in many different shoes, some good, some bad, but she made the walk. Keep walking Elizabeth.
Michael – your comment is unexcusable.
I wonder who is going to replace Michelle. So sad that these men of honor have none.
To Michael – how mean...And I'm guessing you are as ugly as sin but I'm sure there must be someone that loves you.
Elizabeth, good luck in the future with your health and private life.
wow...a book! wonder how much she got paid! hope she makes enough cash to leave the bum!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hope the love child is pretty.
both ladies are rugged looking and are lucky to have such a handsome rich dude!
By the comments posted here, I see that many of you like to afflict harm and vile on anything for any reason. Never mind your politics or personal feelings about private matters (like marital) that you know nothing about, Mrs. Edwards has withstood immense pain, tragedy, illness and certainly disappointment, That she is a cancer survivor with enough determination to face each new day with mercy and forgiveness in her heart for John, and still have a story that she is willing to share, is enough for me.
All of you making the comment about her appearances better pray that cancer steers clear of your doorways. You would hate to have folks wonder what happened to your looks.
These kind of people try always to make money out of everything.. What a society we have developed. Profit and money are the key words in this society.
Ok for those who are talking about Mrs, Edwards looks:
Its obvious that you or one of your loved ones haven't experienced chemotherapy or radiation treatments. These harsh treatments literally make you age faster than normal. I watched my grandmother age rapidly while she was undergoing chemotherapy for her breast cancer. She was diagnosed when she was 52 and I swear she looked at least 10 years older when she finished 6 months later (no exaggeration!). She survived breast cancer for 14 years and she never looked the same. So please educate yourself before you start commenting.
No offense. I love Elizabeth Edwards but she looks like Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker in that picture.
the slugs are out....michael. your 'foresight' is stumblingly stupid. but thanks for the absolutely ignoramous remark about why Edwards had the affair. this woman has survived incurable breast cancer, who F-ing cares what she currently looks like! you couldn't pull off any of what she's accomplished in your entire, pitiful life. folks like michael should be cleared from the gene pool.
