Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was released from jail Tuesday morning.

(CNN) - Embattled former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was released from jail early Tuesday.

Kilpatrick, his beard overgrown and bushy, was escorted out of Michigan's Wayne County jail, dodged a crowd of reporters before getting into a car and being driven away, according to television footage from CNN affiliate WXYZ.

Kilpatrick spent 100 days in jail as part of a plea agreement connected to a sex scandal that rocked Detroit and caused the city council and governor of Michigan to push to impeach him.

Kilpatrick also agreed not to run for public office during his five years of probation.

He was expected to immediately leave the state for a job interview, WXYZ reported.

Kilpatrick pleaded guilty in September to two felony counts of obstruction of justice stemming from his efforts to cover up an extramarital affair. He also pleaded no contest to charges of assaulting a police officer attempting to serve a subpoena on a Kilpatrick friend in that case.

He was accused of blocking a criminal investigation into his office and firing a police deputy to cover up the affair.

  2. Out of Jail and Into Obama's Cabinet

With jail time on his resume related crimes while holding public office, he is sure to be considered for a position in the Obama Administration.

He didn't get enough jail time. He'll do the same or worse next time. Someone needs to watch him like a hawk.

He better enjoy his time out while he can. The next scandal should lock him and his fellow crooks in office up for a long time.

  10. Keep Your Eye on the Big Picture

I don't condone what he did. I do however notice a double standard and no amount of blogger-speak from his detractors can change that.

The damage to society is that folks like me will remember that a double standard was applied. There is a risk that we will use it to justify our actions rather than be team players.

You may have taken him down .... on largely superficial, technicalities ... but did it really serve the GREATER GOOD?

We impeached one President for a BJ but let another one go that lied to us about war and trampled on our civil rights under the Constitution. Where are our priorities?
